The Bears' supposed No. 2 receiver has been racked with injury since the early days of camp. He has one catch in three games. The team could opt to cut its 2017 losses and place Wheaton on injured reserve instead of waiting for him to get healthy. Limited to six games the past two years, Wheaton isn't much of a hold in Dynasty leagues. Then this happens...what a joke. Someone else pointed out that although his draft picks are still being judged, Pace’s ability to adequately judge FAs leaves something to be desired. I'm not worried about his 1 year try-it-before-you buy it FA plans. Contracts like that cost more in the short term but it's worth it in terms of flexibility down the road. We again have $40mil in space next year and can easily get to $50mil by cutting players like McPhee and Wheaton. I think McPhee will restructure his contract and stay with the team another year. Moving on from Mike Glennon frees up another $11mil. We have lots of flexibility for FA but expect at least $15mil of that to go to signing CBs. At WR I preferred Robert Woods but he signed for a lot more than Wheaton did. I'm ok that Pace was looking more toward slotting that money to Cam Meredith. Unfortunately for him, Cam is a restricted FA in 2018 and his deal will not be as big as he was hoping for. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Pace is going the boom or bust route on his FA signings. In this case, a complete bust. I still would've rather have seen Pryor signed over Wheaton or Sims. I imagine he will stay the course, he tried on a couple blue chips but came up short last year. They will have to hit the WR market again but maybe set their goals higher for a playmaker. The draft is the best way to go. They might have the hardest part nailed down with the QB, so now it needs to be about getting him the pieces to blossom and a D to put the ball back in his hands.
