AJ reports to camp

There is a clear impasse in perceived value of Jeffrey's contract. Jeffrey held out of all voluntary workouts and practices, and of course the Bears held off on improving their offer. I think that was a wise thing for Pace to do. Jeffrey refused to be here then the club can't know what kind of condition he is in. That has to be a major concern when determining value, and especially with the guaranteed portion of a contract. Now that Alshon showed up for the mandatory part of camp and was in good shape, perhaps the best conditioning he's even had, will Pace be more comfortable increasing the contract offer and try to get a deal done before July 15th? I think so but there is no way to know how big the divide is, and how hard Jeffrey will stick to his requests. I'm sure there are a lot of personnel discussions and evaluations following the minicamp.

If Pace and Fox were happy with what they saw in two days of practice and are willing to make a significant increase in their offer then we should hear some rumors of talks picking up within the next week or two. If not, I expect more silence until both parties make a final push for a deal just before the deadline in mid-July.

Alshon will more than likely have to come down more than the Bears go up. He is playing a dangerous game with his future with the team. He does have leverage this year regardless of the franchise tag. The 14 mil goes a long way in offsetting any annual shortage he receives in a long term deal. But, if he has another injury plagued season it will erode the cushion.

I think we've got plenty of cap to make it happen.

But, I'd really like to lock in Kyle first. He's been such a team player, that I'd like to see him get the big bump first.

Kyle has been a team player from day one. He is also good at his job. I agree, reward him, he deserves it. I'd also like to think that it would send a message, but I don't think the players today would get it.

Fox and Pace do not like his choices but cant do anything about it. What it does do is, if he stays healthy, we pay him. If he has lagging injury issues, his valve comes down, or they let him go with the new knowledge of White and the addition of Braveman can do for the passing game. Its a win win situation. We pay him if everything goes well and I dont think that will be a problem. Its the staying healthy issue that will show its face this year.

I think they screwed up with Marshall and Bennett and Jeffery will play out the tag and move on next year. Sucks but it's been pretty predictable for a long time.

We had Jeffery, Marshall and Bennett and didnt win everything. I trust that this regime knows what there doing and will let it play out. I dont care if we have 22 starting that we never heard of before, as long as Fox and Pace bring us a winning tradition, I dont care how they do it. I do not agree with everything there doing but am interested in finding out how it turns out. They are getting younger, they are actually drafting people that contribute. When they do a bad evaluation, they get rid of the player and bring the next one in to check out. I like how there going about it, the only one I have not agreed with so far is Slauson but if the OL is better, I drinking cool-aide.

Why did they screw up? Marshall has yet to even play in a playoff game and has a $9.5 cap hit. Bennett has played sparingly in 2 playoff games (in 2009) and hasn't been back since, and is set to make $5.1. Both are on their 4th NFL team. That is almost $15mil in aging veterans at skill positions with some questionable off the field antics.

Wouldn't qualify it as a screw up as much as a bad move and more related to bad timing. Marshall going away has had more affect than first realized. First and most obvious was something the management could not have predicted but drafting White and then having BM leave didn't work out how the had hoped. The hope obviously being that there would be more a seamless transition. The other factor is how AJ has reacted to BMs leaving. If not coincidence then AJ has always been a pouting, injury prone player. I don't recall seeing that before by perhpas I missed it?

Sure BM hasn't played on a playoff team but whose he had throwing to him in that time? Go ahead and answer that, it's more rhetorical. Hell if he can almost make the playoffs with Fitzpatrick throwing to him then he must be doing something right. He unquestionablly made the Jets offense better... And now they have Forte. Will that come back to haunt us? We shall see.

I was pretty good with the move of Bennett. Granted he's a pretty solid player but he's got too much attitude for a team like who the Bears are now. I'm fairly sure should be make the team he'll be in the playoffs later this year.

I haven't lost faith in our current management team...not yet . I have too much respect for Fox to do that . But I am taking notes.

BM is a very good player, but to long for him to be a Bear is short sighted. He is a problem child, as long as a team wins you put up with it, you start to lose and its me me me. The facts are , they did not let him go because they had a better choice, they moved on from him and went to the next choice. They are trying to find a winning solution to a football team short on quality players. He out of everybody they have released is the one that makes the most sense. History explains every decision , look at his career. He is on his forth team and HAS NEVER WON ANYTHING, he wears out his welcome, you will see evidence this year, something will screw up and he wont be there anymore.

Jeffrey was pouting a bit last year but he will collect at least $14.5 mil this year. One day he'll wake up and realize he wouldn't have that if Brandon Marshall were still here. I don't see any way the team would have put $10mil/yr into an aging Marshall with his attitude and signed Jeffrey to a long term deal. One way or another Marshall was never in the long term plan for the Bears once Pace took over. They made the early decision to move Marshall but it was going to happen last year or this year to make room for Jeffrey's new contract.

You can't put the playoff fault on BM, no matter how much you dislike him. BM ripped the league a new asshole on an average Jets team. He caught more TDs than anyone in the NFL. And don't pretend for a second he's not the primary reason Ryan Freaking Fitzpatrick had a career year.

He may have been a bad fit for the Bears, their staff, their personnel, their age concerns, and their locker room. But he certainly wasn't the reason the Bears lost on the field, or why they didn't win a playoff game while he was in Chicago. And he's not the reason the Jets failed to win either.
