With all the talk of the money wasted by Pace and his so so selections in the draft and free agency we could be in a good situation in the offseason. It looks like the contracts are Bears friendly and prove it and you get paid or we move on without it majorly affecting our cap.

The contracts below are from over the cap and the only players I would definitely want to keep are Trevathan with a possibility of Sitton, Demps and Young.

Then if you consider the injuries to starters and hope this will improve especially if they can work out why it’s happening. I have always wondered if the state of the field at Soldier Field attributes to the soft tissue injuries.

If you look at current injured reserve if Meredith, White, Long, Floyd, Young, Demps and Freeman had played at least 70% of the games this season could have been drastically different. I know there are big question marks against White and Freeman for completing different reasons. Freeman is going to be a liability at best and we haven’t got much of an idea as to what White could be. I feel the White situation is a great shame for everyone. The Bears couldn’t have afforded for a player drafted that high not to be an impact player and by all accounts the kid as done everything asked of him and has been unlucky.

I can remember is injury this year. He tried to make up for one of Glennon’s poor decisions, dived on the ball to try and help the team and ended up with a broken shoulder. Maybe this is an example of him trying too hard and putting his body in danger of injury.

Looking at the possible savings if all the players on this list were cut we would have an extra $63,619,115 in free agency on top of the already projected $49,046,328 which totals $112,665,443.

I think all things considered we aren’t in a terrible position if the right choices are made.

It seems to be common knowledge that Fox wasn’t Pace’s choice of head coach and hopefully if he will be given autonomy to choose who he wants. If that is the case at the end of his 5 year contract we will know whether or not we have a general manager that can build a winning organisation.

Contracts that can be moved on from

Glennon. $11,500,000

Sitton. $8,000,000

McPhee. $7,075,000

Trevathan. $4,650,000

Sims. $5,666,666

Massie. $5,600,000

Wheaton. $5,000,000

Cooper. $4,500,000

Young. $4,500,000

Demps. $3,666,666

Freeman. $3,460,783

Although I'm not the biggest fan of pace I will say that he hasn't hamstrung the team with bad contracts. Almost all of the deals have been 1 and 2 yr prove it type deals. The worst contract is that of Glennon but even that was very heavily on the 1st yr that he can be cut without to much damage at all.

I think out of that group, Sims, Trevathan, and Sitton stays. I think with all the problems of the Oline that Sitton will be around one more year to stabilize the line.

The thing about Pace is that he's on a 5 year plan and we're all on a 3 year plan. He does overpay free agents but he doesn't over-commit. He'll bring in a guy like Wheaton for $6mil on a basically 1yr deal instead of giving $34mil over 5 years to Robert Woods. I wanted Woods but what do you know, he's out injured too.

Agree on Trevathan and Sitton. Not Sims. Sims was and currently is redundant. The Bears can sign a cheap journeyman TE to backup Shaheen, because he absolutely needs to be fully integrated into the offense as the starter.

Yeah, no way on Sims. He completely underperformed, his money can be spent elsewhere, and Shaheen needs the PT.

So Shaheen, Daniel Brown and Braunaker for next year? We have to have more depth than that.

Peace :dabears

We definitely need to bring in a vet, but I don't think Sims' 11 receptions and 115 yards are going to be hard to replace. He has 2 receptions and 2 yards since November 1st and his blocking has been suspect.

Some Free Agent names:

Virgil Green, Tyler Eifert, Ed Dickson, Niles Paul, Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Darren Fells

Now, if they release Sims, any of these above free agents are gonna sign to a similar deal to Sims or for more. If Eifert could stay healthy, he could be a top 5 TE and command 8-10 million. The only other TE that has really produced is Seferian-Jenkins and I think he is real close to being a good producer but is coming up short. I am disappointed with Sims as I am with many of the offense, but would like to see him through TC to see if he can rebound. If not, I am sure we can find a cheaper option in the second wave of free agency.

i agree. sims is their blocking TE. a big body on the end and a good plus blocker downfield. that is why he was brought here, not as a high reception/yardage TE. once our offense comes together he would be a good target in the red zone or a lead blocker for running plays around the edge.

I think he was under used as a receiving TE due to the injuries on the Oline, he was primary a blocking TE which constitutes a over pay. They can let him go and will only cost them 666,000. I think with the development of Shaheen, they may renegotiate a lower deal and keep him. He is only 26, a good blocker with upside that has not been used yet. With his production , he wont find a good deal out there, so I think he will renegotiate his deal with little trepidation.

Looking at the wide receiver market next year I don’t know if he hits free agency but I like Davante Adams for 2 reasons firstly I feel he is a good ascending player and secondly it weakens a division rival.

With the money spent on Nelson and Cobb together with Rogers becoming a free agent in 2020 I think they will not be able to offer him the contract that is projected on the sportrac site 5 years $56.6 million. I think he is worth that and although I didn’t fancy playing Jeffrey that much I would for Adams.

Honestly I'm willing to bet he doesn't leave GB. If he doesn't resign with them I'll be shocked and we should go hard after him. He makes hundley look competent

Get one of the top WRs in FA, Adams or Landry. Adams can help two ways like you said. Then draft the best OT and OLB. This team can be good with a few tweaks and of course good coaching.

With Rodgers, and Nelson at the end of his career, he will end up staying in GB.

I think realistically we keep Wright, (slot), resign Merideth, and bring Inman back.

So if we can get a Watson or Robinson, and draft a WR, we will be in decent shape.

Lots of choices, we should get a decent one.

If we keep Wright, probably wont be chasing Landry.

I think Wright and Inman are keepers as the Bears WR3 and WR4, but I still think we need to bring in a top tier free agent and draft a WR in the first 3 rounds. Let Meredith and White compete with Wright, Inman, and Bellamy for 3 spots.

Fuller seems to have played his way back into the discussion, but based on his interview last week. I don't know if he wants to be here, he might be butthurt about the 5th year option and is only playing like this as an audition. Cooper is gone, it was worth a shot, but he has underwhelmed most of the year. I think we need Trevathan back, and probably should keep Sitton and Young considering how many injuries we have had to the O-line and front-7.

IMHO Meredith is better than Inman but I would keep both along with Wright and bring in two 2 receivers (1 draft and 1 FA).

Peace

I think that's how I feel about it as well. And if everything works out perfectly, Kevin White turns into the first rounder he was supposed to be. Then the Bears are stacked, and someone (likely Meredith) fights to stay on the team.
