Bears | Briggs expects big seasons for himself, Urlacher
Comment (0) Sat, 06 Feb 2010 18:12:43 -0800 Sean Jensen, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs said he believes he and LB Brian Urlacher will have All-Pro type seasons next year. "This is going to be a huge year [for Urlacher]. ''He's going to have an All-Pro year, and I'm going to have an All-Pro year, and we're going to lead our defense and our team to a championship," Briggs said. Bears | Briggs says players to blame for poor season Comment (0) Sat, 06 Feb 2010 18:11:46 -0800 Sean Jensen, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports Chicago Bears LB Lance Briggs said the players, not the coaches, were to blame for the team's disappointing season this year. ''It's on us. [Head coach Lovie Smith] never [sent] out a call -- [former offensive coordinator Ron Turner] never [sent] out a call -- that they thought [wasn't] effective. So for us to not be able to execute that play comes back on us. The product that we're producing on the field is not what we need. We need to be better," Briggs said. |

While the ending statement about execution and production may be true, the bolded parts are the most damning. If Lovie and Turner thought the garbage they were calling was going to be effective, then it's a bigger indictment on them than anything. I have never seen a most consistently ignorant combo of offensive and defensive play-calling. -------------------- A stud OL makes bad players average, average players good, good players great, and great players Hall of Famers.

If your defense is constantly forcing third-and-long, only to give up 20 yard completions down the seam and allow a conversion every single time, that's a problem with the scheme not the execution. There's no way our players were failing that consistently in the exact same way every time they got into third-and-12 or third-and-15. |

There's no way our players were failing that consistently in the exact same way every time they got into third-and-12 or third-and-15. Exactly, and having your DB's line up 10 yards off the LOS on short yardage downs giving the other team a free first down with little effort. You could call it jelly coverage cause we don't believe in jam. Having your LBs up at the line of scrimmage every down only to make them backpedal into coverage and wonder why they are not in position to make a play. No one is falling for this clever trick. Plenty of examples on offense as well. Bring in a mobile QB with rocket arm and pretend he's statuesque Kyle Orton when the line can't pass protect. 14 weeks into a season you discover that he's dangerous when you use his mobility and roll him out. Moving the launch point so the opposing defense can't just rush to a known spot for an easy sack or a cheap shot on your prized QB. No creativity in the run game or the offense at all.. The average fan, or idiot on the street could predict the play calls. Yes execution does play a role but when coaching puts players in a position to fail how can you fully blame the players? This is basically company line. There's plenty of blame to go around. -------------------- ![]() |

I'm just sick of all the talk. They are always going to be much better next week, next month, next year. Blah, blah blah. Stop your talking and put your money where your mouth is. That includes all of them.

That includes all of them. Agreed. After the Super Bowl it was, "We're going to go back and win it" which led to a 7 & 9 season. The following year there was all the talk about the Super Bowl hangover and injuries and they'd be sure to bounce back . . . to 9 & 7. Leading into the 2009 season it was more of the same. I know these guys have to say this stuff and we'd be pissed if they said anything different, but it's annoying. -------------------- |
