  1. As an undrafted free agent, Jones finished third on the team with 68 tackles. He also had 2 sacks. I believe he has earned a starting position next year.

    Thoughts?

    Peace :dabears

Unless something drastic happens, Yes definitely .

  2. I have to watch the game again but the linebackers play today was by far the best this season. Agree?

Play calling ( defense ) was far more agressive today. Granted thier qb was strickly a pocket passer . Maybe blitz a little more but kudos for the D.

  3. I personally like Houston ' s play. Young-Allen should be quality DE.

Paea hasn't shown anything in his career which is extremely disappointing. I would have Ferguson/Sutton on the field until either passes out. They are the future, let em show what they were drafted for.

Agree Paea is not a 1st stringer and I believe his contracts up after this year.

  4.

What I saw on defense is my biggest concern and that was confusion. The secondary even the LB's looked confused. Is this constant flip flopping with the safeties and LB's really doing any good ?

By the third preseason game, shouldn't you know who your starters are ? " jack of all trades and master of none " is what I'm seeing here.

Other teams will see this and use the no huddle and to compound this problem.

I know they didn't scheme because they wanted to see "mano e mano " to evaluate each player. Well ... they got it and it didn't look so good.

Starting with the 1st stringers: defensive DT's had couple of good plays but mostly were either man handled or couldn't get off their blocks to make tackles. On pass plays very little push.

The DE's got pressure on pass plays but it would have been nice if they got some help from the inside. Containment can only happen if the front four work together.

Bootlegs and screens killed us yesterday and last year big time and Green Bay and many teams on our schedule use this often.

    This must be rectified immediately!

  5. With 2 grown sons with lives of their own it was extremely cool to hangout with them at Soldier's Field Sat Nite. The practice was crisp and high-paced. Looked like a lot of work was done on working the edges and what looked like a turn in slant that almost resembles a Wr screen. The WR that is on the roster that I believe should get a shot at the spot that Marquiss Wilson was holding is Spurlock he looked decent in the practice Sat Nite. I'm not surprised that wilson got hurt because he was on the field for a lot of drills including special teams. Speaking of special teams Pat O'Donnell does have a big leg and averaged 60 yds on kicks but was concentrating a lot on directional kicking and still was averaging 40+ yds on those kicks.

Met a fan from Omaha that has never grown up in Chicago and brought his whole family to the fest and of course I invited him here and told him my user name. This was the best B-day weekend of my life and now I have something in common with Buffone, Wilson and Briggs. 55!

Ps guys my fun weekend came crashing to a halt today when I go to the DMV to renew my driver's license and they told me that I can't see well enough to pass the driver's exam so 300 bucks later I have to go back tomorrow and show them I went to the eye doctor.(lol)

Hey lem, you can now go to Mc Donalds and get that discount. lol

  6. I know everybody is anxious for the first preseason game. Who would you start ? Normally 1st stringers play one or to series and back ups play the rest.

But with two starters (OL) injured, possibly (B. Marsh ) three on offense would you play Jay and Forte ? On defense Allen missed all week, Jennings hurt , would you rest Tillman and Briggs ?

I myself would play it cautious and not play these players especially the first game. I want to see more of the "right to start" battles on defense and of course the right to back up the offense.

  7. When I was out there I thought it was just me being anal. Seeing him lackadaiscal getting back to huddle so Jay could call the next play. But I guess the hit on fuller was maybe was the last straw. To piss off Management and get suspended says alot. I really hope this is Bennetts wake up call. But this also a good chance for somebody to get some vauluable reps.

  8. Hi guys and ladies, I went out to T.C. Monday and came away optimistic about our defense. The players who really stood out were Lamarr Houston, Hayden, Fuller, and on offense wr's Williams and Wilson.

It's the second day of pads and still early in T.C. so take for what it's worth. Houston is the real deal inside or out, thank God for the red shirts Qb's wear.

It seems he goes all out every snap with BAD intentions in mind. J. Allen is what we expected I'm glad he's on our team now.

Hayden doesn't show any signs of last years injury and is playing well.

Fuller is still learning technique and scheme but shows why we drafted at #14.

Safeties and DTs are definitely a " work in progress " . Ratliff sat out monday

On offense Williams and Wilson are flashing speed and some good pass catching abilities.

  9. I think possibly, since MT helped Clausen prepare for the combine when he first entered the league, he remembered some attributes which leads him to believe he is a "possible" backup for Cutler, so why not take a flyer on him and see how he responds in preseason?

I like the fact that we are still looking for every opportunity to add depth to our roster. It also appears that there is excellent communication flowing between Emery and the HC & coaching staff.

Emery is doing a great job, IMO.

Ditto PIX, how in the hell are you ? It's good to see one of the founding fathers is still posting.

  10. Stinger has picked up the slack somewhat but where oh where is Grouchy?

I'm back and ready for this season to begin. Black hawks broke my heart and now it's time to move on to our beloved bears.

    P.S. nice avatar Stinger !

  11. Hey Ladies and Gents , I will be heading down to training camp in July. I've not been down there in along time. Has anything changed much ? As far as, fields , seating , parking, prices etc.

I'm really looking forward to this year.

  12. Joe Anderson has supposedly had a pretty good camp so far. I'm driving that bandwagon.

Im jumping on so move over !

Every year I pull for a underdog or two. Joe showed me some cojones last season when they finally played him on special teams late in the year. Physical for a 191 lb wr with a no fear attitude. Joe did make some good plays on offense last preseason but that's preseason. I hope he continues to take advantage of these chances. For you old timers he reminds me of Dennis McKinnon.

  13. 1. Corey Wootton looked great. I would not be shocked if he has 10+ sacks this year.

    2. Henry Melton looked great as well.

    3. J'Marcus Webb is horrible. On the first 4 non-run plays in the 11-on-11 drills, he gave up 3 sacks. Like bowlingtwig said, this has to become a competition. Scott did fairly well last year.

    4. Kyle Long is a freak. He's strong and exceptionally quick. Now the question is, can he block consistently? That wasn't the issue today, but it remains a question due to how raw he truly is still.

    5. I know it's practice, but Bushrod looks damn good. I didn't even notice Peppers out there.

    6. Alshon Jeffery went from 12% body fat to 8% and it shows. He's quicker. He got by Jennings and then past Conte for a long TD from Cutler. On the other side of the field, however, he and E.Bennett dropped 2 consecutive deep slant routes despite there being no defenders.

    7. Trestman, Cavanaugh, Kromer, Groh and DeCamillis are constantly coaching. Today, Marquess Wilson made an acrobatic grab and Trestman sprinted over and gave him a pat on the ass. I hadn't seen that in awhile. Anyway, you can hear them yelling "fast" and "fast but in control" among other things.

    Thanks Brian much appreciated !

  14. No surprise. They said he's be the first guy looked at at that slot. Let's see who is there at the first pre-season game... Lots of time still...

Totally agree Mad ! This can be said for other positions as well.

  15. My God, you are alive, :D

Great to see you post! miss hearing from you.

Been very busy with my internet marketing trying to stay afloat. Have not had much time to post but come to the site daily to get caught up on my Bears' news.

Pix, How in the hell have you been ? I posted in the water cooler of how I miss most of the guys who were with us at Bearstalk . God bless my friend !

P.S. Whew I thought was the only elder left here to remember the days of watching Sayers n Butkus.

  16. Outstanding press conference. A huge difference from Angelo. Now let's see if his actions match his words.

    Peace :dabears

I agree CB, at least this gives us some direction he wants to move in. I personally liked what he was saying and agreed with the reasons of what has been missing from this team. Most importantly he wants to win now ! I don't about you guys but Jon Gruden sure sounds like who he is describing. Also there is a name I don't here mentioning. And that's Tom Clements who over the years the bears have tried to get but GB has denied all requests. Tom has worked with all kinds of offenses and not just with GB's current scheme.

    Happy New Year !

  17. See, I view it from a different perspective.

When guys like Hester and Weems keep getting trotted out for snap after snap, I don't see that as a substitute player's flaw. I see that as a coaching flaw. When guys don't perform, changes should be made. Maybe Sanz would have done better than Hester? He certainly runs better routes and is undoubtedly smarter (i.e. knows the plays). Same goes for Rodriguez over Davis/Spaeth. Davis has been horrible this year, so Rodriguez should have been in the game as a flex TE.

This coaching staff has no damn clue how to build an offense, how to evaluate offensive talent, or to execute a successful offense against an opponent.

I could not agree more, Hester and Davis are mental midgets with natural physical gifts. Scoring on every punt and kick return is unlikely in the nfl even though it seems he could. But lately he's been a more of a deteriment by letting balls bounce another 15 yards or late calling off his teammates when he does, running backwards on his own ten yardline, will not fair catch in a crowd. Still has to be told where to line up in a formation while playing WR. As far as im concerened he is taking up 2 needed postitions on a depleted roster. Time to say good bye and good luck !

  18. I really don't care how big this game is I don't want Jay to play. When the replay of that hit is shown time to time even I get woozy and get a migraine.

Even if we had a halfway decent line I wouldn't play him. If this team has any moxie they would squeak out a win, but that besides the point. I'm think of his longtime health as a human being, father, husband not as a essential key clog for a win.

Last I read the Bear Org. is scrambling for answers and have been making changes to the OL and talks of packages schemed for max protect. Shame on you ! Everybody outside Halas hall has been crying out loud of how inept of our talent level at OL is and immediate future. The Vikings are not going to give a shit about Jay and will take a shot when they have a chance clean or not.

We pay a backup QB big money and its time for him to step up earn his paycheck. We also have a solid 3rd string QB who can come in and manage an offense.

This has to be a team victory where all three facets have to be up to the challenge.

    Take care Jay !
