Possibly but TE is a tough position to learn. Seems like we’d be better off grabbing a cheap vet.
He’s a TE you put out there on running downs so should be fine.

The Bears went from Fields, Foreman, Mooney, St. Brown, Tonyan, Whitehair, and Patrick
to
Williams, Swift, Allen, Odunze, Everett, Bates, and Shelton
in one offseason. It is hard to see this not being a top 12 offense. According to DVOA, the Bears had the 22nd best offense last year. 10 spots seems like a huge leap, but when you improve in every position group, 10 spots seems possible.
If the team went 7-11 with 3 terrible losses, 10 wins seems like the floor as they should've had 10 last season. Playing the last place schedule, there are not many dominant teams on their schedule.
Not to mention the coaching improvement.

I have read a few articles that said he is athletic enough to slide inside. So he could compete with Jones at LT or Davis at G. Since Jenkins can play both sides. They could slide Jenkins to RG and have Amegadjie play LG (if he is better on the left).
So now they have options.
I think the idea is to have a good rotation of players to keep everyone fresh and healthy. That said, you gotta hope that a top five emerges so they can really gel after the first four or five games.

I think Bates has a chance of making the team.

I can only assume that Poles agreed that the prospects in the later rounds of this draft were not very inspiring. LOL Without any EDGE or 3T he felt comfortable with, he went with the top Punter in the draft. I know many of you will be disappointed, but it is actually a guy I wanted on our team.
Not disappointed but shocked

Love the pick!
I wanted LT and Poles got me one. His being able to play guard is something too. Seems like a great kid.

I dont know anything about him, but that he was a 30 visit guy, so obviously Poles liked what he saw. Cool.Based on how they’re describing him, no he can’t play center.

Just now, adam said:
OT, Kiran Amegadjie is the pick
Can he play center? LOL

Surprising pick for the Packers, especially with the CBs on the board.
Ha! Even the video of the Packers war room showed half hearted clapping.

Just glad he’s excited to be a Bear. Unlike that little bitch Cedric Benson.

I believe Fields would get us 10 wins, this year. A lot of that has to do with the huge haul we could have received from trading the one. However, I think that's his limit. I honestly feel the same way about Hurts, Lamar, Mayfield, Cousins and Murray. (With Justin being at the low end of them)
I don’t know that 10 wins is his ceiling but the way I made peace with the whole thing is his value is based on his dynamic play making in the run game and that makes him WAY more susceptible to injury. His ability to check down quickly enough for an NFL QB has also got to be questioned after this many years. Coaching? Maybe. Lastly, our new OC had to have chimed in on this and we’ve got to give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
All this said, I still feel Fields wasn’t given a fair shake, one that he would have gotten elsewhere in the league if we didn’t draft him.

This last week or so it's been hard to contain my excitement. I don't remember being this stoked for an NFL draft in a long time.
Excellent post and you captured my feelings very well too. Better than I could have said it.

It would depend on who was available at 9 so I can’t say.
-
With only a few days until the draft are you getting excited or do you have anxiety? All the conjecture and BS stops on draft night. Are the anti-Williams folks resigned to the choice or still hoping for a last minute surprise? Is your focus more on the second pick at this point? I’m hoping for an Offensive Tackle myself
More importantly, how are you feeling about the season? Things should be much improved but we’ll have a rookie QB. There are obvious exceptions but usually that’s a tough first year.
Lastly, are there any FA’s left that you’d add depending on what happens in the draft?

ALt has routinely slipped to 9 or 10 in simulations. He could be a realistic target without a trade up.
Cool. I didn’t know that. But simulations are far different than what happens when humans get involved.
-
Now moving up for Alt might be a different story. I might do that but only next year’s second, not first. We’re only moving up 4 spots.
-
I would have traded back and picked MHJ but not the other way around. And gotten all the extra picks, etc.
Fields is gone and that ship has sailed. Take a blue chipper at 9 and be done with it.

This is a threat to Tyler Scott, right? Or is it Velus Jones?
I hope it works out for him!
