  1. After two games, I am trying to figure out what the role of Sims is and why we paid so much for him. He has 2 receptions (the same as White on IR and Gentry who was released), and none vs TB (though one INT was targeting him).

I thought he would have an expanded role with how much they paid him, but after two games, that doesn't seem the case. If he is just a blocking TE, we overpaid severely. He is on pace for 16 receptions and 176 yards for the year ($333k per reception).

well blame that on the QB and OC for not getting him into the game plan

  2. Because the game is still too big for him. He drops easy passes.

I think he will be good after he gets over being so green, but right now, he's not ready for the NFL, except on special teams.

That could change in a month, but it's where he is right now.

I DON'T by that at all. He had catches in the preseason.......wjays too big to go 5 yards and turn around and catch the ball? Right now I can go in there and go 5 yards and do that...Cohen did it all day so he is not too green as you say and if he was not ready why is he on the 53 man roster

  3. And for those knocking our play-calling, we don't exactly have the type of personell to just run some big wide-open offense and try to beat someone in a score-fest. We have to be deliberate with this personell group and try to keep the game close and hope we will win. Ground and pound with creative uses of Cohen and TE's because we have literally no one who can stretch the field / get open consistently at wideout (or at least no one who has proven to have that capability). If we asked Glennon to air it out 40 times, we'd have gotten creamed.

Instead, if the team executed at critical times, we'd have beaten a team who played in last year's superbowl. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are a playmaker in our secondary and a QB away (along with an upgraded WR corps) from being a very very good team. If we just had a good QB and league average receiving corps, I'd feel pretty confident in our ability to be a playoff team. As we stand today, I think we are going to be on the losing end of quite a few close games and then have a few games where we just get destroyed). And of course we'll win some too.

The good news is, talent is being built and we might actually have the QB we need on the roster. While our end season record might indicate far away, I predict it will actually be the closest we've been in a long-time to a sustained strong wrong...I just hope ownership / front office keep faith in the plan / process.

will someone please telll me why we have a 6'7 TE that played basketball and did not use him as a mismatch in the red zone...i mean it was a play to go 5 yards and turn around for a jump ball against a 6 ft LB that would have won this game
  4. actually I think he will be one reason we will get there. Yes there is depth problem at OT but ILB is only a problem if Trevathan does not come back from injury. He is expected to miss some of the preseason but still make it back at the start of the season. There are many reasons they can fail to make the playoffs, but for now, we're healthy and have a great upside. No reason to be negative at this point. I see things falling in place, but it is subject to change.

The Bears can make the playoff if they follow my plan.Run Howard and Cohen 40 times a game.....get to the red zone use you big targets at WE and TE to create a mismatch. But most of all play defense.Rally to the ball....make tackles....and take the ball away. The biggest problem is in the secondary.....dont let them catch the ball!!!

  5. The 13 undrafted free agents who will participate in the minicamp are Northern Illinois running back Joel Bouagnon, Old Dominion defensive lineman Rashaad Coward, Minnesota linebacker Hendrick Ekpe, Wyoming receiver Tanner Gentry, Ball State tight end Franko House, San Jose State linebacker Isaiah Irving, Florida International offensive lineman

Dieugot Joseph, James Madison offensive lineman Mitch Kirsch, Utah kicker Andy Phillips, Coastal Carolina linebacker Alex Scearce, Oklahoma State receiver Jhajuan Seales, Florida State fullback Freddie Stevenson and Florida State receiver Levonte Whitfield. Gentry,Stevenson, Seales and Whitfieldare my favorites to make the team.

  6. That is a no brainer, top of the draft is where most good QBs are found. There is an examples of the Bradys and Wilsons, but most great QBs were up at the top of the first round. This was Paces shot at finding his QB when we had the third pick in the draft. It will prove to have been a good idea or he will be fired. I admire him for doing what he thought he had to do , big balls.

All a team needs is a good QB....when we won the Super Bowl was Jimmy Mac the top ten QB in the NFL? Hell the Ravens won the Super Bowl with Trent Dilfer. Defense wins championships

  7. I really doesn't matter what the draft experts say until we line up and snap the ball. We have just drafted players that fill a need and at the same time create nightmare mismatches fot the defense. Third down back in Cohen that they call the "HUMAN JOYSTICK" good luck catching him.Two TE'S that can both catch and run over people! A QB that can actually see over his linemen......lol. Now we have two guys that can run at the WR spot in Wheaton and Wright...some height in the red zone with White (if healthy)and Meredith. Not to entire our ground game. Last year there were games where we should have won if not for injuries.....at home against the PACKERS ...L 30-27....Lions...... L..20-17 .....Titans.....L 27-21....Giants......L 22-16...Jaguars....L 17-16......Colts.....L 29-23...and the Texans...L 23-14.Thats 7 games we should have won......7+3=10......so I feel we are not that far of.

  8. Believe it or not, if ya go by 40 times, Meredith is actually the 2nd fastest.

    White- 4.35

    Meredith- 4.42

    Wheaten- 4.45

    Wright- 4.61

Also....Not so sure we draft a WR unless its late or there is a high value guy there in the 4th. You got the 4 listed above, Wilson who has shown signs when healthy, and Braverman who could be developed into a solid slot guy.

Thanks....didn't know that.....he just looks slower on the field.

  9. 1 QB......signed Glennon...........still can draft one

    2. OL.....signed Compton..........signed as a back up to push maybe one of our LT/RT

    3. WR.....signed Wright/Wheaton/......lost Jefferies....lost height but gained speed

    4. TE.......signed Sims.......blocking big man that can catch

    5. S........signed veteran Mr. Demps......older but brings leadership

    6. CB......signed the Prince and Hanging with MR. Cooper......the upgrade!

    7. ST......re-signed Banks and Jones......for depth

    8. Who is next, ....or shall I say who else do we need before we draft? I think if we signed Patterson

as the Hester experiment replacement then we are done in FA.

  10. I just pressure-washed my deck, removed an eroding stain, and applied a fresh coat of stain that will last ten years. Sure, it sucked while I was pressure washing for hours, but overall my deck will be stronger for a longer period of time as a result.

I've taken heat on this board for my beliefs, but I honestly think it's harder to build a consistent contender if you constantly hover near .500. You neither gain the advantage of the high draft pick, nor the advantage of being a winning franchise of which FA's desperately want to be a part. It's better for a franchise overall to have one or two atrocious, top-5 pick seasons where picks can be stock-piled and draft position can be maximized.

The draft picks have been proven statistically numerous times to be better as you draft higher. Sure, there are hits and misses, but overall there are better players drafted higher. There is no debate to this. So it's just easier to draft higher; there is a higher percentage of landing a marquee player.

I'm not ashamed at all to admit I think this team would be better off losing a lot this year.

    Lol.... i agree with you.....but I don't think the Cleveland Browns do.....lol

  11. Hester is better than all of them in regards to returns, but Mariani is a better receiver. I just don't see this regime going back to that well.
Wow bears cut Mariani and Braverman..so who does that leave as a returner
  12. With the new kickoff, his value is even less than it was before. As much as I would want him for sentimental reasons, I don't think they would use a spot on the 53-man roster for him at this point.

You have a point with the new rules.....but Mariani is a straight ahead runner but you know what Hester can do with the cut backs and jukes
