  1. Give the OLine a chance on opening week. They looked sharp for preseason game 3 (at least while Orton was out there) so maybe they're coming together.

Got a whole new line it seems with the additionals / movements we've made this past offseason with positional players.

  2. Just add Monk to the list we couldn't give a chance to.

Say what you will, came off injury and had a hard time after that. Only a matter of months before he gets back to 100% again.

Monk - "Hey Gage, Wade, what's up guys. I'm with you now"

  3. Watching both pre-season games, I say that Rex has potential to make more of an impact than Orton does.

The thing that's troubling is that if Orton starts, we will never have a 30+yd catch (unless a 5yd catch 25+yd run after). At least with Grossman he can attempt to make a big play, and bring the confidence of the Bears' players up.

Our QB's this year are Craig Krenzel and Jonathan Quinn it seems. But must say this OLine doesn't help out the fact of the matter at all either...

I'm also starting to understand how Rex throws so many interceptions and makes so many decisions. If he didn't try to force a pass, he'd be sacked 80-100 times a season due to the pressure he's always under. Bears would never be able to make progress because he'd be sacked at least once every possession. Just my thoughts.

  4. I got cheap and updated the Bears rankings and players based on the link with the ratings that was given earlier :(

Took about an hour to get the whole Bears team right, but I got em. Just doesn't seem the same, but saved me the 50$ "/

  5. Is the announcing some real announcers and NOT the radio station that was in Madden 08. That was probably the biggest downfall imo. A radio station that was doing play by play could not have been worse...

Madden spoke here and there in the 360 version, but just wanted to make sure there's no radio announcing in 09.

  6. Least it's not the like late 90's / early 00's seasons

    1st & 10 - Run

    2nd & 9 - Pass

    3rd & 18 - Run

    4th & 12 - Punt

I like that we are trying to pass some more (past 2 seasons). Grossman's learning over time, and he did look more comfortable last year near the end of it than he did all of 2006 and early 2007.

Also, regarding Moose's comments, while he was on Carolina they had 2 Winning Seasons out of his 8 Seasons being with the team. One was his rookie season (25 catches...)

Panthers went as bad as 1-15 one season (no comments heard of from Muhammad)

Comes to the Bears, goes 11-5 in his first year with KYLE ORTON AS QB

Goes 13-3 with a healthy team, makes it to SUPERBOWL.

Has "Bears Worst Season" at 7-9 in 2007, with a completely injury plagued team, which was better than over half of the seasons he played with Carolina.

His comments were unnecessary for someone who the fans loved and the Bears made the #1 WR. Way to ruin a reputation for yourself in a city that considered you one of the better team players.

  7. Alright, who has 09 already. I want to get reviews before I go out and spend 50$ for it. I like 08 a LOT better than 07, but wanted to make sure the trend continues.

Also, what'd they end up ranking the Bears for this season? And Grossman's rating, I'm just interested in if they brought it way down from the 08 season.

  8. Why not? What exactly has he done for us? Because he has looked good in TC and workouts, he gets excused? We shouldn't call it a waste because of Airese Curry then, because he looked good in practices, right?

They make him sit on the bench more than any other WR on the team. And for no reason. Give him a chance to actually get some plays in and watch him roll down the sidelines.

  9. 2005 and 2001 were disasters

Sure Cedric was a waste. But don't call it a bad draft when we got Mark Bradley in it. I really wish the Bears would put him at a solid #2 WR. Guy has looked great since the beginning of the 2006 season. Too bad injuries have plagued him since he came to the NFL.

Orton (QB drafted 4th Rd) can't expect much out of him for going that late in the draft. Can't compare it to 2001 though IMO. David Terrell was like the Ryan Leaf of the 2001 draft.

  10. I've had thoughts about the Bears trading for Troy Smith, but I doubt that'll ever happen.

Seems like he'll be getting lots of action this preseason for the Ravens though. I think he's going to be a beast someday in the NFL. But we'll just have to wait and see.

    Booker for Smith gg

  11. The problem with Wolfe is that he isnt the type of back that can do it all. If anything he would only be used for sweeps or in long passing situations. However, when a defense can narrow down to a handful of plays that will be run when hes on the field we will be too predictable.

I believe Wolfe to be on the same page as an up and coming Warrick Dunn.

    Inside Slant

For the first time in five years, quarterback Rex Grossman isn’t No. 1 on the Bears’ depth chart. He and Kyle Orton are alternating practice days running the first-team offense, and the competition is expected to extend into the preseason.

Grossman is coming off an inconsistent 2007 season when he was benched early for poor play but performed better when given a second chance, although not well enough to be given the starting job.

“I think I have a little bit of a chip on my shoulder striving to prove myself in this league and get myself over that hump to become a great quarterback in this league consistently,” said Grossman, who has often mixed exceptional and horrendous games throughout his first five seasons. “I’m working as hard as I can to get there. There’s a lot in front of me, but I feel I can handle everything that’s thrown at me.”

There has already been unsubstantiated speculation in both directions that the Bears are leaning toward one quarterback over the other, but Grossman is focusing on what he can control.

“It is what it is,” he said of the competition. “I’m doing my job and not commenting on anything else. I’m really just focused on me getting better.”

Both quarterbacks are working with a wide receiver unit in transition. Veteran free agents Marty Booker and Brandon Lloyd were added earlier in the offseason, and rookie Earl Bennett was drafted in the third round. All three could be major players in a revamped offense, which means both quarterbacks have a lot of on-the-field relationships to work on between now and the season opener. Having to split practice reps could slow the development of that rapport.

“I don’t really know yet,” Grossman said. “But I have plenty of time. If I feel like I don’t have enough reps with somebody, I bring them out here when we’re not practicing and we go through stuff. But I don’t think it’s going to be a problem.”

Grossman re-signed with the Bears in the offseason rather than opting for a fresh start elsewhere, mainly because of his familiarity with the organization. But he’s playing under a one-year contract, increasing the pressure on him to perform this year, which could determine in which direction his career heads.

“I think anybody going into their last year of their contract or signing a one-year deal it’s added pressure on them to have a good season,” he said. “And I’m excited about the opportunities if that were the case. Who knows what’s going to happen? I’ve got one thing in mind: that’s having a good season this year.”

Is this going to be like the Falcons of last year, switching QB's every other week? Or are we going to finally get down to business and designate a final starting QB.

I thought signing Grossman in the offseason was a sign of him becoming the starter again this season. I hope that sometime soon we'll find out which one we're going with.

(P.S. Grossman #8 --- McNown #8) I hope the number is given away with future QB draft picks.
