  1. I still lean towards Sean Mannion over guys like Grayson or even Petty later in the draft.

Petty has had some good press lately and I'm not sure why his workouts are suddenly "much better" than what we see on tape. Consider he has the exact same weakness as Mariota coming from a spread offense and yet that's still all they can talk about with Mariota. Why did this suddenly become less of a concern with Petty? That late riser stuff concerns me when it doesn't match in season performance. I'm not talking numbers here (for all the Graham Harrell fans out there); rather his tendency to have passes trail off or lose velocity as they arrive at their target and occasionally come up short. Traits like that worry me when you consider what usually happens when QBs see NFL pass rushers coming at them.

I agree and like Mannion as well. Could be a solid pick to develop

  2. The exact same thing you and I (and Jason and a few others) have been saying all along. There isn't a better answer available and you probably shouldn't "sell low" given that he's worked with Gase before.

i was thinking this same this earlier today. There is not any better option out there so i guess just stick with him. I like what this management and coaching staff are doing so far so i will not question them over this.

  3. With our situation, it might be different. Part of our issue with Cutler is that we have no plan B. He has no competition. Does it scare the hell out of anyone else that if we do cut ties with Cutler, our next best option is Jake Locker?

Jimmy Clausen felt so much love from the NFL that he signed a one year deal with the Bears for the minimum.

keep in mind that we are rebuilding this team (i think). So if we need to get rid of Cutler and suck for a year or two then so be it. This team sucks and needs a lot of things to be competitive again. I say build from the inside out i.e. OLine and DLine first, then lean towards building the defense. You can win in this league if you play solid defense, able to run the ball a little, and convert on third down.

  4. Mccourty had Revis taking care of one third of the field for him too. Plus guarding the number one WR.

only for one year...McCourty has been excellent for a while. He is going to cost more than i would rather pay and the 2 for 1 mentioned in this thread is a better way to go in terms of money

  5. The Bears trade Cutler, Forte, and Marshall for a 1, 2, and 3. They trade back for a 1 and 2.

    1st-mid round and late round

2nd-Bears original, mid round, late round

    3rd-Bears original, early round

    What's your mock?

    1. Vic Beasley, OLB, Clemson -Kill the QB

    1. Hau'oli Kakaha, OLB, Washington -Kill the QB

    2. Dorial Beckham-Green, WR, OKlahoma - Marshall replacement

    2. TJ Yeldon, RB, Alabama - Challenges for the starting role, insurance, could explode as a rookie

    2. Jordan Phillips, NT, Oklahoma - Monster in the middle

    3. Hronis Grassu, C, Oregon - Bam! Starts by the end of the year.

    3. Derron Smith, FS, Fresno St - I would be shocked if he didn't start immediately

    4. Jake Ryan, ILB, Michigan - Feels like too many LBs, but who on the roster is worth a damn? Dude is a gamer.

    5. Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor - I know. I know. Rolling the dice.

    6. Trenton Brown, ROT, Florida - Huge dude. Challenges Mills at the least.

    7. Deshazor Everett, CB, TX A&M - I like him, makes big plays.

Got my approximate positioning from drafttek.

    Go for it!

that would be a quick way to rebuild. Love it

  6. I could really care less about what the media talks about, really no one should.

I HIGHLY doubt we "Tank". You don't bring in the coaching staff they brought in to lose.

They have the money to put players out there to try and compete and I'm sure that's the goal.

The only cut I wanna possibly see is Matt Forte. This draft class is stacked with RBs, Forte is at the age where he's soon gonna hit a wall, and it frees up 8 mill. Do work in FA, draft another stud for the D in the first then draft Coleman, Yeldon, or Abdullah in the 2nd...Or quite possibly wait till the 3rd and grab Duke Johnson or Jay Ajayi.

great post. Forte is good but his money can be used elsewhere...and like you said, there are RBs in the draft that can come in and produce IMO.

  7. I vote for the Beliceck philosophy. Trade down, trade down, trade down. Accumulate picks and talent and value the mid-round picks. Don't be a fool and get caught on the sexy top end talents, accumulate picks and you'll be able to maneuver all around the draft.

BINGO! We need to fix a lot of problems. Trade down, get more picks and draft smartly. The draft is a crap shoot but the more players we can get the better.

  8. not sure we have the personnel to run his offense. We would need to add a quick WR, another TE and Cutler would need to be willing to learn. What it would do is make the OLine better since it is a quick pass offense which requires the line to not have to block as long.

If Fox thinks he would be good, i am on board. My worry would be Cutler

  9. The dysfunction was pretty rampant, but Briggs didn't really help the cause either. What is crazy is Emery and Trestman are probably still with the Bears if Urlacher/Peppers/Hester were not let go. I say this because Urlacher was the team leader and Peppers and Hester were at least team players. The team lost a lot of leadership and identity when Urlacher left. In the end, it actually works out for us because Pace+new HC are already better than Emery+Trestman. Especially for long term success.

i agree. Once Url left there was zero leadership on that team. Screw Briggs, he should of stepped up after Url left but he didn't. no respect for him.

  10. I am in the camp that if he is there, you take him at 7. I hate saying it too, but I think he has all the tools to be a bonafide star. The key is that you are comfortable with him maturing, etc, and obviously you get comfort on his off-the-field matters. I believe him to be the best QB to come out since Luck and one of the best QB talents of the last 10 years.

PS: I don't expect him to be available at 7 and he's the only QB I would pick this early. I've also said if Hundley is their in the 2nd, I take him. As a whole, someone could say QB isn't our biggest need, and I'd agree, but I think his football skills grade him out as a worthy #1 overall pick at a huge impact position. I don't pass up on that. I want the Bears to look to the future vs. trying to half ass their way to a 9 win season and the playoffs. We need to focus on being great and if that takes a little longer, so be it. If he's not there, I look at LT & Dline. I think the talent typically at those spots can warrant impact production. I'm also okay with going with LB.

I know safety is a huge need, but if we are taking a safety, we need to move down in the draft. My personal belief is that a safety is not worth a top 10 pick.

He is Byron Leftwich with lots of baggage. I'll pass. I would rather wait for Hundley or Petty
