Oh come ON another bubble screen?! Really? They were showing blitz, we were in trips right and were seeing three DBs across from them each isolated with rubs and slants a plenty.

Pathetic. And you know there has to be a reason. No one just forgets most of the passing offense exists in their playbook. Getsy is doing it on purpose. And there is a reason.

The reason could be cause Getsy is beyond stupid and stubborn.  He’s just a different version of Naggy

Gary Crowton, John Shoop, Msrk Trestman, Matt Nagy, Luke Getsy - hey bubble screens all the time!

The screens aren’t fooling anyone so tired if this chicken $$;&;& play calling.  The more compressed the box gets the closer to the line of scrimmage Getsy calls.  Have we even attempted anything down the field?   Two weeks straight we dominate time of possession, offensive plays, and yet have next to nothing to show for it.

Can we just drop Getsy off somewhere in Minny?

It is possible that Poles has already determined that Flus is gone, but just doesn't see any benefit of bringing someone else in as a caretaker since there is no DC and the OC is worse than the HC.

So while it is bad enough to have reached the decision point to fire him, it might make sense to wait for the end of the season to do it?

That very well could be.  One could argue at this point would firing this staff right now be more about reacting to fan outcry or making the team better.  We all know the product on the field is unacceptable. If Poles doesn’t see that then we have more issues than coaching.

This one was hard to take. We were 3-7 on the road facing one of the top teams in the NFC at 7-3.  With three minutes left we had them on the ropes.  This is a game of momentum. Up by 12 we let them march right down and score in less than a min because we went into a soft D.  We then compound it by playing ultra conservative on offense running straight int a stacked box twice forcing a throw on 3rd we’re Scott quit on his route. Only chewing like 30 seconds off the clock.  We again play prevent D and let them move right down the field.  What’s worse is that we had 3 time outs in our pockets and we let them drive for the game winning TD and milk the clock. We didn’t call our first time out till there was 26 seconds left.  What’s the point? Did he not realize the time was ticking.  Fields was put in a bad spot.

  4. Moot point now was going to be a tight matchup.  Switched over to the colts game in time to see my QB Richardson get hurt and it looks like a multiple game injury.  My team can’t catch a break…

  5. looking for some lineup advice full PPR

    currently have

    TE Waller @ Miami

    Flex Mattison

Not much out there in FA for TE.  J.Smith, Pitts, Godert, Musgrave.  Lot of meh. I’m hoping Waller has a good game anthem maybe package him in a trade. Same thing with Mattison.

for my flex my bench is: J.Warren, J.Addison, T.Dell, R.Doubs, Lockett, M.Wilson.   I’m thinking of swapping out Mattison for Doubs, or Dell

also thinking of picking up Dowdle to handcuff Pollard.

Thank God the streak is over. A win and they didn't allow 25 pts.

Fields currently leads the NFL in passing TDs (11) and total TDs (12). He is on pace for 3,954 passing yards and 37 TDs.

Moore on pace for 1,805 yds and 17 TDs. Moore now 2nd in the NFL in receiving yards lol.

I want to see that replay of Moore on the sideline, I don't think he stepped out.

Watched that play a couple times and I didn’t see him step out of bounds I think he got robbed there. And I think that’s why he reacted like he knew he got robbed.

That said, when we were up big at halftime I was thinking the same thing all Bears fans were. Were we going to come out flat in the second half and blow another 20+ point lead and lose.   I spent the third quarter and up the DJ Moore TD in the 4th thinking “here we go again.”  The offense got stagnant, the D forgot how to tackle. I have to give this team major credit.  Injuries piling up there was no quit. To play with rookies and third stringers on D and our fullback as our only RB for most of the 4th.  The 14 game streak, the eerily similar feel of the game last week.  They could have folded but kept fighting.  As discouraging as last week was this was an encouraging performance on the road on short rest.  Enjoy the W guys you earned it. Then get back to work.  This mini bye is much needed to get some guys healthy.

  7. I really do hope this is the light bulb moment for Fields, the coaches and the offense as a whole. It’s been very well articulated here in this thread. And his comments match what the eye test sees.

What has baffled me over the years (not just this regime or player) is that we have a history of trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. Trying to make fields a try pocket passer goes against his DNA. That play style is not what makes him special and dangerous.

  8. Having better talent around him should help him play more calm and let the game come to him.  He doesn’t need to feel he needs to do too much.  I like that the first play was a quick pass to the fullback for an easy completion and a first down.

One thing you can really see from DJ Moore on that screen is he is a genius when it comes to spacing. i saw it on the film from Carolina too - he finds the perfect spacing against zone defenses. Think of all the WR screens we've seen fail over the years (looking at you Gary Crowton) Getsy get it when it comes to screens. And screens will compliment our zone running scheme, and Fields' running. Great to see.

Agree, and to me that is why Moore is the best #1 WR fit for this offense. He can beat a defense in so many ways. Not just a one trick pony who’s mainly a deep threat.  He adds so much versatility to this offense. When your top WR can take a screen pass 50+ yards to the house and make it look so effortless will give DCs fits. They will have to keep track of where Moore is, spy on Fields, and the run game, and someone should always be open. What a great get by Poles to insist on him being part of the trade.

So it seems that the offseason moves have improved pretty much every facet of the team.

If you look at it from a high level, on offense, the passing game should be improved, and at worst, the running game should be the same. The Bears added Moore, Wright, and Davis, as well as Foreman, Johnson, Scott, and Tonyan, and really only "lost" Montgomery since losing Mustipher is an upgrade in itself. If the offense is better and has some additional TOP, then the defense will be a little more rested and potentially get off the field a few more times.

On defense, the run defense was historically bad. With the additions to the DLine and LB Corps, the run defense should be better. Edmunds and Edwards are tackling machines and rarely miss tackles. For pass defense, it should be the same, if not better with the addition of Stevenson and the ability of Edmunds. The pass rush is still an issue, but again, it is no worse than last year. Like I said above, if the offense is slightly better, then the defense should benefit from that as well.

Now if we look into situational football, the the 1st Down offense is going to be better. Moore alone should do that, but also Foreman and Johnson as well. Then on 3rd Down, here is a crazy stat from Twitter:

So the Bears targeted Pettis 21 times on 3rd and 4th Down and got 2 first downs from those targets. Moore, Tonyan, and Scott should improve that number drastically. Even if the Bears go from 2 of 21, to say 10 of 21, that is 8 additional first downs, just from targets to Pettis.

On defense, with a much improved run defense, 1st Down defense should be better giving the other team some additional 3rd and longs. Without much of an upgraded pass rush, 3rd Down defense will probably be very similar to last year, but possibly a tick better if the other teams have longer downs to convert.

So what do you think? It feels like the 8 to 9 win target seems completely reasonable based on this perspective.

I think this is a good assessment of the big picture. It wasn’t all going to be fixed in one offseason but Poles addressed as many areas as could and he’s not done.  But the changes made should at the very least raise the floor and the ceiling on the Bears in 2023. To me it’s a sum of all parts being better kinda thing.

One narrative this offseason that has annoyed the crap out of me.  That Ashkum eluded to about the national perspective vs us fan’s perspective.  It bugs me when I hear the line “they were the worst team in football last year”.  It’s lazy low hanging fruit.  Yes, we had the worst record but if you actually watch the games you see a team that was better than it’s record. Certainly the most competitive 3-14 team I’ve seen in some time.  We know that, but the reality is the national perspective won’t change till that competitive effort translates into results.

Each one of these can be there own thread. Clearly, some of these guys have something against the Bears and Fields. They also have not actually watched the games.

If you look at the numbers, Fields has not shown he can be a consistent passer with timing routes and the quick passing game. Until he shows that, there will always be naysayers. No QB played more and threw for less yards than Fields.

However, if you look at efficiency, Fields has improved. QBR is a good stat for that as it takes all the others into account. In 2021, Fields was dead last in the NFL at 31.4 (50.0 being league average). In 2022, he shot up to 54.0 (17th in the NFL). To put that into perspective, Burrow was 10th with 58.7 and Cousins was 23rd at 49.9. So any improvement from Fields will easily bump him into the top 10 this year. Hell, DJ Moore alone may do that for him.

One thing that I think skews Field’s stats is that the first part of last season we hardly threw the ball. I can’t knock him for what was beyond his control. Hard to rack up passing stats when the play calling was so run heavy early in the season. Add in the line play and limited weapons he had around him. That said he certainly has room to grow. This offseason has been about investing in surrounding him with more weapons and improving the protection up front.  This season he is setup to take the next step. I believe he can and will.

  12. I’d I hear right that he was a QB, but voluntarily changed positions to RB when his team lost all three of their RBs?   Like this pick great value for a guy who got overshadowed by Robinson. Great character guy and a bruising hard working back.

    would like Wipler next.

I like seeing that he stays balanced -my issue with Skorondki was that he seemed to constantly be getting bent back and barely holding onto his block, but I don’t see that with him.

His footwork, mobility, and agility stand out to me. Like you said he says balanced and plays under control. It’s when linemen don’t have good balance and footwork that they panic and have to hold.  It’s the difference in playing in a reactionary way rather than taking the fight to your opponent.

And now the Lions reach big for a LB that definitely would have been there in the second round. LOL

Been some head scratching moves so far. So refreshing that we’re not one of those teams.  It’s kinda funny that the Jets didn’t take a WR in the first round after Rodgers whined about the Packers didn’t do it.  Would have laughed my butt off if the jets had taken Will Levis

Meanwhile we get Detroit taking a RB at 12 and then GB takes Van Ness at 13.  I like both players but don't think the value was there.

Detroit taking Gibbs surprised me a bit. I was glad the packers didn’t take JSN.

Love the pick.  I think he's the best RT in this draft period, might even be the best OT.  We're going to run the ball on everyone with this Oline.  Not to mention the pass pro just took a huge leap forward.  I'm so glad we didn't sign McGlinchey because Wright is a big step up IMO.

I agree, so this what it’s like to have a GM that actually does the smart thing.

  17. Packers get the Jets #13, a 2nd (#41), a 6th rounder (# 207), and a conditional 2024 3rd round pick that becomes a 1st if he plays 65% of the snaps (very likely).

Jets get Rodgers, pick #15, a 5th rounder (#170), and Rodgers massive contract.

So the Packers move up two spots in the 1st round, a high 2nd, a sixth, this year and a ‘24 1st (though this could likely be a late 1st).  They take a cap hit this year but are then free from Rodgers big contract.  The Jets move down two spots, give up some good draft capitol this year and next year for at best a 2 year rental.  Then they’ll be a QB needy team again.  They are going to have to go all in during this 2 year window.  Short term this trade helps the Jets, but long term it helps the Packers.

All this talk about how the jets are serious contenders now kind of make a me chuckle a little as the are swinging for the fences on a QB who’s choked in the playoffs more than he’s come through.
