  1. I don't mean he'd run 4-3 for a game and then switch. I mean that he'd have a 4-3 defenses with many 3-4 fronts being worked in it. A switch from the 4-3 to 3-4 is quite the overhaul and doing so completely would be bad for any team.

Well if you check out the packers website and read the article it doesn't indicate Capers running anything but a 3-4. like he did when he was DC in Pittsburgh

and Jax and as HC in Carolina. Capers expertise is the 3-4 he's going to be running that D next yr. McCarthy says basically that in the article.

I guess we will agree to disagree on Capers running anything but a 3-4. I guess you and McCarthy would also disagree. As McCarthy hired Capers to run a 3-4 next season and pretty much states just that.

  2. Well glad your in the film room with him to realize he is stupid. The past does not relate to the present. His play at nickel really improved over the season. But putting Vasher would be an immediate upgrade. Look for JA to go after a FS high in this draft. 4 out of 4 playoff teams had safties hightlight the day. Dawkins, Palamalu, Wilson and Reed, I dont see anything even close to that on this bears roster. Brown, Worrel, McGowan, Steltz, Payne and manning just dont relate to elite to me at this point. Unless payne really comes on this next season with Steltz, They are gonna have to draft a safety high.

What sucks is the fact after this season the glaring needs are more evident this year then in seasons past. It will make for a interesting draft for sure.

Well when a guy has to transfer from Nebraska to Abilene Christian because he can't handle the academics. One doesn't need to be in a film room to see he struggles with knowing the BEARS D. I'm not the first person to question Mannings IQ. What makes Mike Brown such a good player is he's very smart and knows all the in's and out's of the BEARS D. Then that's not a surprise as Brown was an academic all american @ Nebraska.

  3. Green Bay announced Dom Capers as their new DC. So, it looks like they will be switching to a 3-4 D. Most likely not right away, but they will probably work in the 3-4 as Dom Capers is a 3-4 guy. They will be only the 4th NFC team to run some form of the 3-4. This scares me because I still don't trust Turner, and not sure if he can make adjustments in his schemes to face the 3-4. However, he'll have to as we are going to be facing 7 teams that will be running some form of the 3-4 next year, after not having to facing a single 3-4 team, let alone 3-4 front last year, and only 2 in 2007.

However, luckily for us, Green Bay doesn't have the personal for a 3-4 just yet, and they are going to have to overhaul that defense, mainly the front 7. But when they do get their D organized, they could really stuff a lot of offenses in the NFC because the NFC doesn't really have a true 3-4 team in it, and offenses are just not used to it. The Cards seemed to have gone exclusively to a 3-4 this postseason after gradually switching from a 4-3, and look what they have done to the Falcons, Panthers, and Eagles. The Cowboys also run a 3-4, but their defense sucks so bad right now, it doesn't matter what they run. As for the 49'ers, they are slowly switching to the 3-4 as well.

If you go to the packers website you'll find McCarthy stating the packers will run the 3-4 next yr. So I see the packers using the 3-4 right away.

Capers isn't going to be running a 4-3 for a few games and then the 3-4 from what I gather.

  4. I liked D Manning and still do but the guy isn't very bright. In fact he's not bright enough

to be an NFL safety or nickle back or dime back or cb.

He's a special team guy who can return punts and kicks. He left Nebraka because he

couldn't handle the academics. He's proven to me over the course of the last few years.

That he's in over his head when it comes to understanding a NFL D.

To expect more from Manning is not realistic. He hasn't grasp the D yet and he never will.

  5. Give me Suggs. He's a perfect fit for us, and while we'd have to give him a big contract, Peppers is looking for a LOT more. Besides, watching Suggs gut it out tonight with a severely damaged ligament(s?) in his shoulder shows how well he would fit in with us.

While Peppers is a freak athlete and is a stud, he's more about the money then the game, IMO. I'd rather have someone who's more of a leader like Suggs.

I wanted Suggs via the draft a few yrs ago. JA traded down for Haynes and Grossman.

Suggs would be an excellent FA signing. He's a gamer.....

  6. Does anyone else think he should have gotten fired? I hate the guy, think he's a dickhead, but I dunno if they should have fired someone that won them a Super Bowl not too long ago. Did the best he could with the talent he had this season.

Did you know that since winning the super bowl. Gruden's winning percentage was less than .500 for ther bucs ?

Dungy got the Bucs to the playoffs the year he got fired.

Gruden is lucky he wasn't fired last yr.

    Jon Gruden's record @ TB

12-4 - super bowl win vs oakland

    7-9

    5-11

    11-5

    4-12

    9-7

    9-7

45-51 after winning the super bowl

  7. If Peppers is tagged he'll be getting right at 14 million.

His sack total was up from 07 but he was playing for a new contract in 08.

Ogun had fewer sacks but more tackles than Peppers in 08.

I wouldn't make Peppers the highest paid BEARS player and that's what it will take to sign him.

JA won't even offer him a contract IMO.

Marinell was brought in to up grade the current d-line. JA may draft a DE but he won't be signing Peppers.

  8. So because Lovie Smith is one of Marinelli's best friends. Marinelli signed on with the BEARS.

Damn that Lovie he only hires his buddy's as assistants.

Oh by the way former BEAR Ron Rivera's good friend Steve Wilks (former BEARS DB coach) will sign on as the Chargers new DB coach next week.

  9. Sanchez had a fabulous Rose bowl game.

At the same time he's been a starter for all of about one season.

He'll be a first rd pick but I sure don't see him being a star NFL qb.

Too much is often based on the last game played at the college level by a qb.

I believe Sanchez might have a better career than Vince Young and JaMarcus Russell but I wouldn't bet on it !

  10. Rumor is the Patriots are asking for a 1st Rd pick for Matt Cassel. I'm not ready to give that up for a one year wonder, especially with the talent on that team as well the coaching staff. I don't watch Patriot's games so I really don't know how good he looked as a QB but he did put up some very impressive numbers in the second half of the season. I'd give up a 3rd Rd pick plus maybe a 6th Rd pick.

What do you think he's worth?

Where have you heard this so called rumor ? Do you have a site ?

The Pattys don't even know yet if Brady will need another operation and if Brady will even play in 09.

So I see no validity to any rumor that they'd even consider trading Cassel at this point and time.

I might add back on 1/4/09 ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported that the Patriots have determined that

they will use the franchise tag on Cassel.

Time period for NFL teams to franchise players is from 2/5 thru 2/19.

  11. lol, when did we start running the WCO? Because Garcia, especially at this point of his career, NEEDS to be in a WCO.

Yea I'm sure Garcia could only play in a west coast offense and Gimp Leftwhich is so highly talented he can adjust to anything. :notworthy

Thank you Bill Walsh for your fabulous insight !! :shakehead

  12. Leftwich anyday over garcia, 2 way different QB's, Lefty more like a Prton type , Stay in pocket, Line would not have to change up with a different style like garcia, And personaly dont like garcia's Play, Leftwich all the way

Yes two different qb's. One (Garcia) who's a proven NFL starter and another one who's been a backup since Jacksonville launched him .

Garcia's qb rating this past season was over 94.

  13. If someone was going to do an article on you and ask about your current boss and the boss you had at your old job. Which boss would you speak more highly of ???

Like Banjo boy I'd speak more favorably of my current one. You'd be stupid not to !!

It's laughable that anyone would think other wise.

  14. How can you say that after Marinelli was hired to be a position coach?

You're right, he's still a HC but that's only because they're in the process of hiring a GM and they want the GM to pick the new HC or have him be the one that keeps Edwards. The expectation is that Herm will be cut loose.

Marinelli was hired to be the asst head coach and d-line coach and 2nd highest paid coach on the BEARS next to Lovie.

Let me know when Herm Edwards becomes the BEARS db coach. It simply aint going to happen.
