  1. I totally agree, especially a year to rest the rest of his body, might make Url better??????????

I also think Urlacher MIGHT be better at safety. The thought really interest me. He's got the speed, and he's almost like one already, always having to drop back in coverage so much. Did he not play safety in high school or college? Can you imagine the qb thinking of Urlacher's speed and height and the recievers thinking about his size and hits?

  2. Sorry, but getting a 3rd rounder for Url to me isn't worth it.

Not yet. I'd like to give him another shot here for a year.. then maybe ask for a salary reduction.

If Roch is our permanant replacement for Url we are in BIG trouble...

  3. LOL

The thing that I'm confused on is for some reason Dan Pompeii found a scout that says he plays to his players strengths. If thats so,why is Garrett Wolf running between the tackles instead of getting a few plays that allow him to get to the edge and utilize his quickness? Its because Turner is stubborn just like his brother Norv and refuses to change. The Bears are eunning the same running plays they did when Lewis Tillman and Raymont Harris were in the backfield and the same passing plays they ran when Jeff Graham and Curtis Conway were the WRs.Darren Sharper's comments add some validity to the article but the fact that he is obviously looking for a career in TV leads me to believe he says the right things depending on what media outlet sticks a microphone in his face. Remember his quotes leading up to the Saints-Giants game about wanting revenge because they didn't sign him? At his age and the salary he would command most teams would pass on him. IMO he wanted to be in that NY market to try and secure his future in TV.

The thing that I'm confused on is, why every sportstalk show, every tavern, every restroom at Soilder field and many here are in agreement. It's not that we don't use a variety of plays and formations etc.,he does not know when to call them TIMING. And that was just one person "Sharper"saying the Bears are not predictable. That's bull, most of us here sure do believe the Bears are predictable,we watch all 16 games every year. Sharper only watches 2 a year. I want to see some bootlegs by Cutler.

  4. The problem with blitzing is its a gamble. It creates holes in your defense. Good teams are always going to be able to take advantage of it unless you have an extremely talented defense. We dont have that talent.

We blitz a ton already. Unfortunately, since teams know we have to blitz they are ready for it. Most of the time they can pick it up and/or hit the checkdowns.

What really needs to happen is the DL needs to step it up and get pressure with a four man rush. Look at the reality here. We have a defense that encourages them to get upfield, be athletic, and rush the qb. We also have a guy who is recognized league wide for being one of the best DL coaches in the game, especially for this system. The DL is still not up to snuff so , in my mind, the blame goes squarely on them. Which I think is the reason we got Gaines Adams, to send notice to the individual players, especially the DE's.

As far as the video game thing goes, there is no way you can relate Madden to the NFL as far as blitzing goes. The AI can't make the adustments that real people can. Heck, I can run the same blitz the whole game and get a LB 7 sacks.

Do this. Have your son play a good real life player online. Have him blitz every play. He will get shredded. Especially if he picks a team with an average defense (which is comparable to what we have IMO).

Like I said earlier in another post, our blitz's are boring, no creativeness, it's everybody in a straightline to the qb,things look like a traffic jam. I am always watching other games (on commercials or earlier/later games nflticket) and many blitz's look so much more different, creative and succesful then ours. Unless I am batting pretty good and see more successfull blitz's when I am changing the channels? If we blitz a ton, we sure are doing something wrong, cause we don't have that many sacks and hurrys.

  6. Wouldn't you think of all OC's, Turner would know the most how to utilize Garret Wolfe. His brother runs the show in San Diego and while Norv is a terrible coach he's done a ton with a similar scat back.

Couldn't Ron have made a call pretty easily to figure out some better ways to utilize Garret?

Now my guess is that Ron has and I personally think the Bears need to utilize Wolfe more, but before we get crazy on things, if you watch the Chargers, they don't just throw screen passes with Sproles.

They run him inside, outside, use him as a decoy, etc.

Bottom line, I want everyone to remember that for Wolfe to succeed the Bears will have to do the same and that means he will occasionally have to be used inside to essentially keep defenses honest. The Bears just need to be more committed to using Wolfe (which means we need to sustain longer drives and maybe take the ball out of Forte's hands a bit more...at least for the time being).

I want more wolfe on offense and less lamb on defense. Lets blitz more. I am a big believer in giving the opposing qb less time.

  7. Well, I would argue that some of this gets thrown Angelo's way. A good NFL coach instinctively feels heat when things aren't right. For the few that don't, they have GMs who hold them accountable. Lovie is apparently one of those coaches who doesn't instinctively feel the heat but Angelo doesn't appear to be putting any heat on Lovie, so if Lovie doesn't feel any heat, he's not likely to put it on the players. In turn, the problem can multiply. Players stop feeling the heat to perform better or up to their capabilities because the bar is not set high enough. I had a boss years ago who, no matter how well I did would pound into my head that I had it in me to do better and owed it to me and everyone around me to do better. I have always maintained that Lovie Smith is a soft coach. He instinctively finds ways to lose pivotal games and this team is merely taking on his personality. It's not that he's a bad coach, I just don't think he has the make-up to be a great HC. His defense, as wounded as we are is ranked 7th in the NFL. What concerns me is that situations like the no huddle against the Falcons get away from him and he just seems to let it snowball and get worse until we've given up a touchdown. A great HC would have called a timeout right away and regrouped but not Lovie, he just watched it happen and gave us all that lithium stare he's so good at.

Truth is that this football team lacks discipline, focus and can't sustain it's intensity. It has nothing to do with lack of talent and everything top do with lack of preparation. Time for some good old fashioned heat to be applied to Lovie's ass. You listening Jerry?

OK, Jerry and Lovie get mad together. You got Cutler on offense, Briggs on defense, let's GO.We are pissed, but if we loose to Cincy I believe things will start stirring up.

  8. I would love to go team by team....but I just don't have the energy, lol. Guess we will have to disagree.....

I believe in being more aggressive. We defintaly don't blitz enough. I've been a blitz fan since the 70's. I never play video games, but my son does, he plays madden.I told him to blitz every defense of play. He tried it and with different teams and was yelling with joy on how much success he was having in killing the oposition. I understand it could be apples and oranges but boy do I believe in giving the opposing qb as little time as possible.

  9. This is something that has really bugged me for a while. Accountability.

I read an article today where Lovie seems to be defending any player a reporter asks about. On one hand, some might argue a coach should hold back and keep the finger pointing for the film room. On the other hand, I think sometimes you do need to call players out. Sometimes, players simply need to feel the heat. Lovie seems to always defend the players, and I just question whether or not that does a good job of holding players accountable.

You watch around the league, and other coaches will call out and bench of a player for multiple fumbles. Other coaches will have the head of the OL on a platter when they get so torched. Other coaches will simply hold players accountable. Lovie is more a coach who puts his arm around a player and says, "its okay. I am sure you tried your best". That may work for some players, but when it doesn't, you need to do more, and I just do not believe Lovie is doing enough to hold players accountable.

Exactly,When other teams mess up I'm always seeing the head coach rip into the other coaches face, whether it be O.line,D.line, special teams coach etc. Because when the other coaches hear it from the head coach, chit usually gets done, or gets passed down to the players. Players and coaches are NOT afraid of Lovie. Even in his post game interviews he never really blames a player or gets pissed. Professional sports is not what it used to be. Nowadays if you loose, you still can be happy, because you still go to your million dollar home, have sex, don't worry about bills, etc.

  10. Lovie needs to sit some players at the start of a game for a couple of series or a half. Omaliye,Forte,Harris for example. Lovie is their coach first, not friend first, who cares what they think. You cannot tell me Vasher did not want to prove something after being benched, and he did with a little luck but I know he was pumped when he was sent in. It lights a fire under the substitute and the player being sat, when he returnes, believe that. I want Lovie to get more fierce, like we do when we watch the game and get a little heated. Not Ditka style but more then he has. Another thing,I hate our blitzing. It's always everybody on the line rushing a straight line to the qb,which leaves no room in the middle for our lbs because it's clogged.I've been watching other teams blitz with the tackles pushing a little outside at an angle, making the gaurds leave the middle open for a linebacker or 2 to come in untouched. I hate when we TRY to blitz and just seeing a traffic jam. The only success we have, is blitzing from the outside with one of our db's, but we don't do it enough. A blitz usually works when someone comes in untouched. We need to do a better job at this. I HATE THE WAY WE BLITZ IT'S PISSING ME OFF. I would like to know what our percentage is of sacks when we blitz compared to the rest of the nfl.

  11. I live here in Colorado and seen Cutler tear it up on the bootlegs with Denver. But we never run it. Every team we played (I've seen all games) runs it against us with success, until we slow or shut it down. But we don't want to run these type of plays because the other team might figure it out after we have success with it. That's the mentality of our coaches "Well we don't want to run it because they might figure it out after awhile". Remember a few years back Lovie said we stop running certain succesfull plays because they were going to stop it sooner or later #*!^@%^#*!!!!!!. And the cover 2 is outdated. The way we play it,it's their 11 ofensive guys against our 9. Because our 2 deep guys do not need to be bothered with unless the play busts past the linebackers. To chit with the cover 2. The Bears need to play bust mouth defense.

  12. The Bills are 1-4 and by all means already out of it. That being said I could see Buffalo trading T.O. for a 3rd or 4th round pick mid season. I mentioned it today with my buddy on the phone and sure enough ESPN Insider has mentioned this.

    ESPN Insider

Thoughts? Would you consider it? T.O., Knox, Hester, Bennett with Forte, Olsen and Clark. I'd do it!!

I just saw that too. No do not do it,that will be less time for our younger guys. He just might be on the quick slide down in his abilities.

  13. I was a freshman in college when he broke the rushing record. My heart had been shattered by the monumental Cub playoff collapse.

I remember I was driving down I-90 when I heard he had passed away. Virginia McCaskey gave a press conference. I had to pull off the road as I was crying like a baby.

    Peace :dabears

    Test

So many memories, but his last game,(Washington)where they did not give him the ball much, then at the very end he got a couple of calls and tried so hard. I was dissapointed on the few plays he got.I'm back on this board after 2 years.
