  1. At this stage I'm taking this with a grain of salt. But I sure hope they're both awesome!

+1....its hard to go crazy over players when they're just running around in shorts.

Am I the only person who gets a little ticked off hearing how our ST Coach is going to use our 2nd Round pick on Special Teams when he should have been selected to compete to be our starting MLB? I understand it is good to have a floor in players and Bostic has that- but it bothers me that they would be so excited to have him play STs when indeed he shouldn't have been drafted to do so. Develop 6th and 7th rounders or bring in FAs for that.

  2. We've talked about this quietly all off-season whether or not he'd make the team.

I believe he'll make the team as he's cheap/young enough. However, I'm not optimistic he'll ever make a difference up front for us.

  3. Granted, this is his dad I'm quoting, but...

’I kind of felt like — and I won’t share the two or three teams that were picking after Chicago — but I felt like it was a really good opportunity that Kyle would go between 20-28, 29, without tipping my hand,” Howie Long said at Halas Hall. “But he would have been off the board. ... I’ve heard people say they should have traded down and got him in the second round. He wouldn’t have been there.”

Thanks for beating me to this as I heard Howie say this in his interview on the Bears website. His inside information makes me feel really good about the pick.

  4. I am a doctor and I have always found humor in patients that come in my office and say they "heard on the radio that...". Never mind the years of college, years of study, and years of research. Some guy on the radio is dialed in as to the right direction to take.

Don't you love it when people tell you how to do your job? A job that took you extensive schooling, training, researching and being given by that job by top notch people?

I agree we need to let Emery work a bit more before jumping down his throat.

I feel very very good about Emery's draft.

  5. Too early says who? All the experts? Well, ISN'T EMERY AN EXPERT?!

Great pick. OL finally gets some attention. Cutler is smiling. Forte is happy. Carimi is a bit nervous.

I think this is a good way to look at things. I can be content with Emery not only addressing the OLine, but taking a guy he clearly wanted.

  6. Both guards gone before the 11th pick. You won't see that again anytime soon. No Quarterbacks taken in the top 10 either. This is a weird ass draft.

I think it just goes to show what we all thought on this board in the first place....these QBs aren't worth a spit.

  7. ogletree is dropping right now. Mayock and kiper are having him the 3rd best LB in this draft, They are not convinced he can hold up in the middle, Brown and Teo are ahead in thier mocks.

Its obvious Scouts are getting the word out that Ogletree isn't a 1st Round pick and that surprises me a bit. Perhaps he was the clown who tore up his hotel room? It wouldn't surprise me.

However I'm not sure where you're getting they're rating Brown higher. Kiper has Brown as his 5th best OLB....doesn't even mention him as a MLB. The more and more I hear- I get the feeling we won't be taking a MLB in RD 1.

  8. Not to get too off track here but I read a tweet from Chris Mortenson about the Bills locking in on drafting Ryan Nassib at #8. He's the one quarterback that I'd be okay with the Bears taking a chance on. He's got a cannon of an arm.

He'll carry over well with his old HC as well....

    but at #8? REAAACCCHHHHH

  9. Ogletree and Warford? Yes please

Just the though of hitting on multiple guys is more appealing than landing one player at 20....a trade down resulting in Ertz and Brown would be huge if they both hit while adding a B. Jones or Schwenke while picking up a 3rd.

  10. Meh.. This isn't Mike Martz's 7 step drop offense anymore. I think Trestman knows the value in protecting the quarterback. West Coast offenses utilize more 3-5 step drops that are designed to get the ball out quicker, thus making it more difficult to reach the quarterback. I feel much more confident now than I've ever felt before, thanks to the addition of Aaron Kromer and an offensive minded HC. I remember when Trestman got hired they threw out a stat from his first season in the CFL and his team improved dramatically in pass protection from the year before, prior to his hiring.

    Agreed.

If anyone recalls there were games where Gannon would throw 40 plus times under Trestman/Callahan...but the ball was out QUICK. That Raiders team would dominate time of possession just about every game they played without running the ball much.

Whether or not JC6 can emulate this remains to be seen as his mechanics may never be the same after getting crushed the past four years....which has really hurt his accuracy 10 yards and in IMO.

I'm still excited about the possibility, but wouldn't be shocked if the Bears took a QB in RD2 at all. I'd hate it if they did, but I wouldn't be surprised in the least if Trestman wanted to groom his own guy should Cutler not pan out and be gone next year.

  11. I don't care what you say, Romo doesn't deserve what he's getting. He's way too inconsistent for that type of money. All the contractual language and cap hit issues make sense though.

And with Flacco, the point I'm making is had Baltimore negotiated with him midway through the season (rather than at the end) they would have probably spent less. But, as I mentioned they may not have because their season wasn't looking so good at about midway. They probably thought they could wait and determine whether it would be worth their while to sign him on or franchise him; depending on how the season progressed.

With Cutler, and as a few have suggested, the Bears would probably be better of trying to get Cutler resigned before the season is over.

    +1

  12. If he doesn't play well, I think he'll be the most highly paid backup in the league next year.

I feel that a bold prediction, but fair. I still think another team will give him a starting gig while they groom his replacement at the very least.
