  1. They might have to bring back Adrian Wilson and or MD Jennings.. Yikes.

I don't know if Ahmad Dixon is any good, but he was the player of the game on special teams.

I dont believe he can be brought back because he was let go with an injury settlement at the end of camp

  2. I was not even aware of the McCown thing until it was brought up after the game was over, so I have no idea why you are pairing my comments to Stinger and Alaskan Grizzlie's McCown comment together. Nice spin job, there.

Cool story needy bro, I suggest you read different threads and stuff

  3. No what I think you enjoy is coming in upsetting the apple cart. I was the one that said McCown needed to come in. And at the time I was ready for it. It was somewhere during the time he (Cutler) had either thrown his second interception or lost a fumble which resulted to a TD. To be frank, I'm still not sold on Cutler. I thought for sure he was the answer but at this point all he is is a Grossman 2.0 (IMHO). Until he goes against a team of true 'playoff caliber' and shows the same resolve he has for the last two games, I won't be sold. In fact when either Ted or George give me a call to see what I think, I'll suggest they hold out a bit longer on the re-negotiation. (by the way that last part was called sarcasm - and yes, ridiculous).

Do I think the team would do better in having McCown start, no. But I am relatively confident he can 'manage' the game should he need to.

I know you said it, and I know right afterwards he was telling people they were needy and to stay out of the thread as if your analysis to put in McCown was spot on.

There is a reason McCown was out of the league for a year before the Bears came knocking. Insinuating he is some kind of a magical game manager is ridiculous. Quarterbacks aren't perfect, lord knows Jay isn't perfect, but yanking him in the middle of that game is short sighted and laughable.

In regards to your apple cart comment, lol ok. Maybe the apple cart should stay on the path.

  4. When you post during a game, you are always going to get those responses. You get excited during a great play, you vent out your frustrations during a bad one, and after the game is over you reflect on the totality of everything that just happened. What you are asking for is something that almost never happens in a game thread. It is made to be reactionary (if you posts during games). The annoyance I have comes from the individuals who scan through game threads after its over and look at things that happened in the middle of the 2nd quarter where they will draw conclusions from while ignoring everything else.

    Your annoyance, lol. Right.

Gamethreads are always good for bad opinions, before during and after games. Looking forward to the next "FIRE TRESTMAN PUT IN MCCOWN WHY ISN'T FORD GETTING MORE CARRIES" comment when something goes wrong. Because, you know, it's ok to say ridiculously stupid things in the heat of the moment. The heat of the moment means you don't have to think about what you type

  5. I think some people just need to learn how to deal with game threads and realize that it is an emotional roller coaster. Complaining about the complaining isn't doing anything, especially when conclusions are being drawn from posts made hours ago, while the game is in progress, particularly when something bad happens.

This game was a tough watch if you were a Bears fan (they are notorious for that.) They outplayed the Vikings for the majority of the game, but allowed them to stay in it thanks to some silly turnovers and poor special teams execution early on defense. It was the type of game that if the Bears had lost, it would have felt like they beat themselves. Like last week, there's a lot you can be encouraged about, but there are also some legitimate complaints to be made, like, what the hell is wrong with the defensive line?

What about complaining about complaining about complaining? What does that accomplish?

How about this, try not to look at every play, or even every quarter in a vacuum? Try and understand that football is a game of adjustments, and it isn't going to be perfect 100 percent of the time.

Christ, it was actually suggested to put in McCown. That is hilarious

  6. Only this time, don't blame new Broncos coach Josh McDaniels if Cutler's former favorite receiver follows him through the exit doors

McDaniels should be held accountable for everything this offseason IMO. Marshall may have his legal problems, but I am sure he also recognizes that his probowl QB was pushed out the door and now he has to hope that Orton can provide the same production.

  7. Kiper says what he wants and he doesnt have to be right. He said that Cedric Benson was the best back in his draft and the Bears were not going to have to worry about possible issues, and that they were set with their franchise back that they havent had since Payton. And we all know how that went

  8. Noticed Marc Bulger was one of the worst starting Qb's in the league last year while Kurt Warner was one of the best. I thought that was kind of satisfying remembering how Kurt lost his job after an injury to Marc back in the day. I've always liked Kurt. Of course maybe Marc is also a good guy; I don't know much about him.

IIRC this was more of a Martz thing than it was Warner vs Bulger. I mean, Warner went through period where he just couldnt hold on to a ball because his hand kept getting broken, and his effectiveness just crashed through the floor. Bulger stepped in and lit it up in that offense that was just ready to go.

  9. Hey, I get it. His workout was less than impressive. At the same time, I am simply among those who question the value of all these tests. If a guy was dominant in college, then I just question all this offseason stuff. Its one thing for the small school guys, as you may question how their speed/strength looks against better competition, or for lesser known prospects in general, but when you are talking about the major prospects, I just question a lot of this stuff.

And there have also been plenty of dominant college players who have gotten to the NFL and have flaked out(Demetrius Underwood always stands out for me).

The things I am reading about this guy is that yes, he could be a flat out dominant player, however his attitude and percieved flakiness are really starting to rub NFL scouts and GMs the wrong way.

  10. Just to point out though, he looks as he did during the college season when he was dominating. What would you expect to see if Ted Washington would have taken his shirt off. Do you think he was ripped? Smith is a big boy. That is what he was when he dominated, and what he will most likely be when he plays in the NFL. I just wonder why everyone suddenly expected a guy who was always fat to suddenly show up at the combine looking like a greek god.

Take a look at the history of 350lb players. How many looked good w/o their shirts on. Now, the decision to take his shirt off is another story.

greek god no. More than 19 reps of 225, yes. Big ted could probably put up 225 with one hand(i kid, I kid)

  11. I just saw some pics of Andre Smith getting weighed in and read some of his combine numbers. Holy cow, that guy just doesnt want to get paid period. And he looks AWFUL

  12. Don't we still only have 3 safeties on the roster right now (Steltz, Bullocks, Payne)? I guess it depends on what you consider Manning to be, but I think safety remains very much in play for the draft.

Isnt Payne a strong safety while Steltz and Bullocks are free safeties?

  13. The guys from '85 that are coaching aren't necessarily re-creating the 46 defense. However, the defenses that they do coach, are successful. I'm sure X's and Os are part of it. But, SF didn't hire Singletary because he had more and better tricks than Mike Martz. They hired him because they knew he wouldn't put up with any BS, would be accountable and make his team accountable.

You know what? It's not Peanut's 99 yd play that irks me the most about our team. Everyone has occassional lapses. It's coming our flat against Houston when a victory puts us in the playoff. We had everything to play for and still were nonchalant. It's playing with no emotion in the first half of almost every game in the season. That's the stuff that's unbearable. That's what leaves those who watched our team during the Ditka years craving for more from this regime.

Win or lose, Lovie Smith seems like he's about to fall asleep at most press conferences. You can imagine what the pre-game talk sounds like. In life, motivation/emotion/attitude plays a MAJOR part in your daily performance. Football, even more so.

My god, you are that guy who calls in to B&B every week saying they need to hire someone like Ditka to bring the fire and passion back, arent you?

Tony Dungy won a superbowl with the same attitude lovie has. Belichek isnt a red ass on the sidelines. Mike Shanahan. Wade Phillips.

You dont have to show fire to be a good coach.

  14. Please don't take this as condescending. But, it sounds like you're too young to have seen the '85 Bears play.

What the '85 Bears had is what this team is seriously missing. Other teams get it and they bring them in. We don't. Does it really take that much of a genious to realize that Mike Singletary would make a good LB coach? Fisher/Frazier good secondary coaches?

They knew how to play the game. It wasn't all about ability, but drive, determination and passion for the game. Again, all qualities that lead to an intensity that our team lacks.

When Mike Brown leaves the game, who wants to bet that he'll be one of the better upwardly mobile secondary coaches soon after? That's the point.

I saw them play, Im 30+ years old. In a copycat league that mimics success, dont you think there is a reason why the 46 defense is rarely utilized anymore? its because it is outdated, coaches schemed around it. In 85 it was a pretty new thing and the Bears took everyone by surprise, dont take that as a slight on the defense, because it is not, but Coaches in every sport will learn their way around a defense.

All I see constantly around talkbears is people bitching and moaning about what everyone else has. The grass isnt always greener. Plank has been coaching in the AFL for what, 3 years now, and NO prior coaching experience, but this is a guy who the Bears all the sudden needed? GMAB. There are plenty of other candidates out there who can probably step in and do the job, and have experience in the defense the Bears are running(which comes in pretty handy considering you should probably know about the defense you are coaching).

The "drive determination passion" stuff rings hollow. The Bears dont need someone to be an emotional leader as a coach, they need to know where they are supposed to be on the field. You heard it all year long from every player and defensive coach "if we play in our gaps, we will be fine", "if players are in the right place, they will make the plays". Peanut Tillman didnt give up a 99 yard play to Berrian because he lacked drive determination and passion, he gave it up because he peaked in the backfield and was out of position when Berrian blew past him.

Thank you for the entertainment. Although there are far superior funnymen on this board that don't have to stoop to belittling our only team to bring a SB to the city and its fans...

its not the team that is being belittled. It is the idea that bringing back any player from that team is a great idea that will work with 100 percent certainty
