Forte factors future into playing with his injured knee

Officially, Bears running back Matt Forte is questionable to play on Sunday in St. Louis with a knee injury. Unofficially, it sounds like he’s not likely to return just yet.

“That’s [a factor], if not the most important factor — the future,” Forte told reporters on Friday, via Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune. “Because if you go out there for one game and then ruin the rest of your season and maybe your career, then that’s a big factor. There’s a lot of football left to be played. So you don’t want to chance it for one game. That’s a lot of it.”

For Forte, “the future” also includes a future that doesn’t have him under contract with the Bears for 2016. Which means that, at a certain level, he’s making a business decision.

“It’s a fine line, because if you’re not fully healed and you go out there, you might injure it worse or something else. So it’s hard to tell,” Forte said, adding that a return on the artificial turf at the Edward Jones Dome may not be the smartest move. (Not to mention the concrete.)
