Cullen Jenkins looks like a target for Bears

Getty ImagesThe Bears don’t have a lot of key free agents to re-sign when free agency hits. Defensive tackle Anthony Adams looks like a priority according to John Mullin of CSNChicago.com, but that’s practically it.

While we don’t expect another Julius Peppers-type splash in free agency, the Bears have more work to do on the defensive line. Mullin believes the team will target Packers versatile defensive lineman Cullen Jenkins.

“The Bears have their targets identified for whenever free agency opens. Green Bay’s Cullen Jenkins projects as the priority,” Mullin writes.

Later in the same article: “Consider Adams along with Jenkins the top two signing priorities, ahead of center Olin Kreutz in some organization thinking.”

Jenkins is a bit of a risk because of his age and injuries, but he’s been one of the more underrated linemen in the league for the last few years. Rod Marinelli and Lovie Smith have a solid track record squeezing production out of veteran linemen, and Jenkins would be a worthy guy to go after.

If nothing else, it would piss off a lot of Packers fans.

I've always thought Jenkins was kind of a stroke, but hey, there's no denying his talent. He's always been vastly underrated. If he's cheap or relatively cheap, why not?
