  1. Freeman would be Cutler's successor? When, 2019?

Guys, Cutler and Trestman like each other a lot. Trestman went to Cutler's wedding. Cutler has never talked this glowingly about a coach.

And face it, who else will be on the market this offseason? Do you want to draft a guy in the 20's and hope he can keep the team competitive in 2014 and on? Cutler's a very good QB and everyone is just realizing that now, unfortunately. He's never had this much around him since he made the Pro Bowl in Denver.

They're going to continue to evolve as an offense, and unless Cutler seriously injures himself/dies/throws 20 INT's the rest of the year, he'll be back for at least the next 3 years.

So no, bringing in a bad player and an even worse teammate to this organization is a bad idea. If they want to draft a QB in the 3rd or 4th round, perfect! Maybe they'll strike gold and draft a guy like Ryan Mallett, Matt Flynn, or Kirk Cousins, someone who can impress in limited action and be a guy who can net them a 1st or 2nd round pick some day,

  2. I think some regards will need to paid to the run game, last I recall R. Bush will probably be out but this Joique Bell seems to be halfway decent. And with Meltion out the run game could be a difference, if not a distraction. Although I'd have to admit that Collins has played pretty stout in his appearances so far this year.

    Reggie Bush will play.

  3. So before I get into this too much, let me reiterate that I picked Anderson to be the surpise player for the year. He still has that possibility.

But if you take it all into context, Anderson really hasn't played all that much better.

First look at their respective positions; Frey is a Nickel Back, Anderson OLB. Frey doesn't play every defensive down, Anderson does. Frey has 13 tackles and is a two year pro, Anderson has 19 total tackles and has been playing for 8 years. Lastly, Frey makes about $400k per year, Anderson $1 million.

In relation to what you ask me, there is a fine line between "mediocre" and "good". In my mind, Anderson should be MUCH better than Frey in order to gain the distinction of "playing better".

Anderson's on pace for about 102 tackles. That's pretty good. I wouldn't exactly measure success, especially when trying to make a case for a CB over a LB, on tackles. Chances are, if a CB is racking up a ton of tackles, that most likely means a lot of passes are being caught on them. For $600K, give me Anderson.

  4. So anyone got an idea who i should start?... josh gordon or antonio gates..... and philip rivers or colin kaepernick

I'd say Gordon and Rivers. Right now, any team would take Gordon over Gates to play one game, and at the moment, Rivers has the 2nd best QBR in the league (behind P.Manning and in front of Cutler) and Kaepernick is struggling.

  5. My grading was really on what he did to the offense and with the hiring of Trestman. The offense really only has Cutler, Forte and Garza from the old regime. If I were to grade on the entire time he has been here it would not be a A+. I didn't love his first draft but I didn't hate it either.

    2012

I hope McCellin turns out, added weight and strength will be crucial, didn't love this pick but didn't hate it either. Loved the Alshon pick, I almost wanted him in the first. Hardin, I liked the pro day results but didn't really love this pick. To be a top contender you have to really draft well in the first three rounds every year. Especially the first two rounds. Right now we know Hardin was a bust or not a good pick

    2013

Long looks to be a beast

Bostic looks like he has big play potential

Greene - I liked what I saw from him in preseason

Mills- starting at right tackle, great 4th round pick so far

Second draft for Emery is already looking better than the first draft. I'll give Emery the benefit of the doubt on the first draft being that it was his first time running the war room. The more Im really excited with where this team is heading. I hope Emery and Trestman keep it up.

The D is going to need some retooling fast, hope Emery has a plan.

Mills was a 5th round pick. Greene was their 2013 4th.

  6. So far, Emery has drafted McClellin, Frey, Jeffery, Long, Mills, Bostic, and Greene. All of these guys are getting significant playing time- offense, defense, or special teams- and that's all you can ask out of drafts. Draft solid prospects who can make an impact on your team, and right now, they are all are on a 3-0 team. So far, so good.

  7. Alaskan- you think Anderson has been mediocre but Frey has been good? Really? I mean this respectively, but I think the exact opposite. Neither has been great, but I think Anderson has definitely played better than Frey has this season.

  8. On his radio show yesterday, Cutler jokingly (I hope) said he's going to slide for awhile and lull the defense to sleep, and then in a few weeks, he's going to run through someone again.

SO PUT IN MCCOWN, TRESTMAN, U DUMB CANADIAN! AT LEAST HE IS TUFF!

  9. I wouldn't go so far as to say the Patriots suck... but they kinda do. I think by the end of the season they'll be back on track but right now, right at this minute, I'd say the Bears could beat them easily on a neutral field.

I didn't say that they suck.

  10. I look at players year round, just like the Bears scouting department is doing. You don't think they will take a closer/deeper look at the DT's now that Melton tore the ACL?

I don't expect Melton back, he is undersized and needs the speed/burst to be effective. That may never come back with the injury.

The guy I put in there looks like a possible 3T tackle with the same measurables.

I do the same. Interesting mock.

It almost seems certain now that they will go DE, CB, or DT in round 1 and 2. I will say though that I'd love to see D'Anthony Thomas as a Bear. He's an immediate upgrade over Hester at KR and PR and can play a lot of offense.

  11. I could see us as high as #3 and low as #5 behind NE and NO.

New England is easily the worst 3-0 team in the league. The problem is is that they play in Boston and they have Brady so they're automatically the best 3-0 team in the league.

  12. If you compare to how Fisher, Joke-l, Johnson, Fluker, and Pugh have fared so far, Long is a steal. Cooper is on IR, and the only other Rookie OL playing decent is Warmack.

For the RoY, Bernard, Thompkins, and Vaccaro are in the mix.

There's one for offense and defense. Bernard hasn't done much this year and Thompkins has dropped a lot of passes. DeAndre Hopkins, so far, is Long's only competition.

  13. In today's MMQB by Peter King, he says right now Kyle Long would get his vote for Offensive Rookie of the Year. Thoughts?

I didn't watch closely enough at he and Mills in particular last night, but I know he opened the whole for Forte's long run and I do know Cutler's on pace to only be sacked 16 times.

So much for him being not worthy of the pick. :headbang

  14. Player A yells at his coach on the sideline, throws 2 second half INT's, team blows a 16 point lead, team is 1-2.

Player B walks away from his coach, has a great game, wins a primetime game, team improves to 3-1.

Player A is Rodgers yesterday. Player B is Cutler last year after the Dallas game.

Player A gets a pass because "he has a ring and is a leader" and the sideline incident is never mentioned, Player B gets ripped by the media for merely walking away from his coach yet there is no mention of his 3-1 record and his great play on the road in primetime.
