  1. I know you won't believe me but the announcers said Webb looked good yesterday....I've jumped ship to JMills nation now though, he's looked fantastic in the run game. Hard to tell how he's looked in the pass game though because Jay has been getting the ball out so quick that he hasn't had to hold his block that long.

He played well? He had 2 penalties in 2 quarters. :shakehead

  2. Yeah, catch the ball and I'll "enjoy" you more.

By the way, who cares what a Dallas fan thinks? I know they're used to mediocrity, but Bennett was used sparingly there and any athlete will tell you how tough it is to perform when you're not in the flow of the game. He was still inconsistent in New York, but "hate" is a strong word.

  3. You said this:

He has to work on technique but holy cripes are the tools there. Dude was a freakin stud last night and It was amazing to see. I look forward to seeing him grow and pancake the shit out of people. I hope he turns into a perennial all pro!!!

    and then:

People are making an awful lot of conclusions about the coaching staff and Emery's drafting ability based upon preseason production. Sure there are tools that you see and things to be encouraged but what matters is regular and post-season production. Conclusions should be made based upon that. Right now...this is just preliminary information that gives you a bit of an educated hypothesis as to what these players and the coaching staff may be capable of. All of it is happening with very vanilla playbooks (both on our team and for the other team).

    Huh?

  4. The scheme Cutler was in with the Broncos was unique to Mike Shanahan & Gary Kubiak, so it's not the same ZBS that Kromer runs. From what I have read, it certainly sounds like the Trestman offense is one of the most complex in the NFL. Curious to know how it compares to Mike Martz, who was notorious for running an offense that was difficult to grasp.

These 4 pre-season games will be helpful in determining whether or not the offense has the basic principles down, because that's all we will get to see, according to Trestman. A lot of vanilla.

This is a WCO. The ZBS is more for the OL.

  5. Nice photos, thanks for sharing.

Was it me or did Shea McClellin look bigger last night? I saw some replays on ESPN and saw 99 flashing in on a few plays. Mistook him for a shorter Peppers. Has he beefed up this offseason? If so that should be a good thing.

And haven't read the wire yet and one of your shots reminded me that Melton was injured last night. Any word?

I guess he lost some weight according to reports but I guess he gained muscle, if that makes any sense.

  6. I talked to a member of the media at training camp last week, and he was telling me how Cutler won' even acknowledge a question after practice if it's not on a Wednesday (which is the designated day he is scheduled to talk). So maybe he still has some growing up to do, but I do agree that him accepting blame for a poor throw yesterday was a nice step. I'm sure him being married and having a kid has changed him some.

The Bears only make him talk on Wednesdays. They also gave him his own PR guy as well. It's not his fault.

  7. Dude, tell me where I'm wrong! They kept Cutler and the starters out there much longer than planned and they produced SQUAT. As I said, it's one PS game but I saw little on O to get excited about.

Then don't get excited. It was their first time in a real football game since December, and their #1 and #3 WR's didn't play.

BTW, this is the exact offense GB runs. It's dink and dunk and eventually hit a big pass play.

  8. Gents,

I have 4 tickets to both the Thursday, 8/15 and 8/29, preseason games available. I am willing to part with them for $40 each (half face value). I am simply trying to recoup some of my cost. Email me at jaycschulz@gmail.com if interested.

    First come, first served.

    Peace :dabears

I got $195 (way under face but not bad for game 4 of the preseason) for CLE and $250 (one dollar over face) for SD on eBay. Give that a try.

  9. This is nothing. Last preseason, Charles Tillman got torched by Ramses Barden in game 3 of the preseason and that mattered more than practices before game 1 of the preseason. So, no, this means nothing.

Two thoughts on this. First, this will be the first test in the 'QB whisperers' ability to coach. Cutler has always had a propensity to the turnover, most times because he rushes things when he does throw the INT. So by the very nature of the WCO, he may find the adjustment difficult.

Secondly, a player like Steve Young (who himself was not known for the quick release) swears by Trestmans ability. So the rescipe is there. Question is, will it be gourmet or disastrous?

As I've said before, and I will repeat, I hope that the TEAM does well. I have my doubts in what Trestman can do. And so far I have been slowly losing faith in Cutlers ability. But like I have for the last 40+ years, I'll watch each Sunday and hope (like I always do) for the wins.

This statement is false because this system is eerily similar to what he ran in Denver with Shanahan.

  10. Must be some upside to this. With a three year deal they must be planning on him sticking around. But from Princeton? Hmmm.

With the new CBA, these 3 year deals happen a lot now for no-name guys. This is nothing but a depth move in case Williams' injury doesn't go away in time for week 1. I'd be surprised if Starks made the 53 man roster.

  11. Did you get a sense that Cutler was checking down his receivers or were they just running set plays? It sounds like he's sharp based on your comments, just wonder if he's running the offense in scrimmages or just hitting the #1 on every play. Not sure how you'd know for sure, just wondering if you got a sense that he was looking one way and then coming back another, etc.

Because of the rush thanks to dumbass Webb, he was mostly hitting checkdowns and different WR's.

How did Brown look? Believe it or not I'd love to see Brown solidify the RG spot thus opening Long up to compete at RT.

Brown and Long have both had decent and poor bits of practice. I saw good things from both.

In the 11 on 11 drills was Webb getting help from guards or was he 1 on 1 with a defender

He was 1 on 1 vs Wootton.

Joe Anderson has supposedly had a pretty good camp so far. I'm driving that bandwagon.

Anderson is a great ST player and has displayed very nice hands so far, so I concur.

  12. 1. Corey Wootton looked great. I would not be shocked if he has 10+ sacks this year.

    2. Henry Melton looked great as well.

    3. J'Marcus Webb is horrible. On the first 4 non-run plays in the 11-on-11 drills, he gave up 3 sacks. Like bowlingtwig said, this has to become a competition. Scott did fairly well last year.

    4. Kyle Long is a freak. He's strong and exceptionally quick. Now the question is, can he block consistently? That wasn't the issue today, but it remains a question due to how raw he truly is still.

    5. I know it's practice, but Bushrod looks damn good. I didn't even notice Peppers out there.

    6. Alshon Jeffery went from 12% body fat to 8% and it shows. He's quicker. He got by Jennings and then past Conte for a long TD from Cutler. On the other side of the field, however, he and E.Bennett dropped 2 consecutive deep slant routes despite there being no defenders.

    7. Trestman, Cavanaugh, Kromer, Groh and DeCamillis are constantly coaching. Today, Marquess Wilson made an acrobatic grab and Trestman sprinted over and gave him a pat on the ass. I hadn't seen that in awhile. Anyway, you can hear them yelling "fast" and "fast but in control" among other things.
