  1. Unfortunately, the refs always see the effect and not the cause. Too bad they can't look at replay of that cuz that garbage by Trueblood and he should be fined.

Stupid of Peanut though as well. Gotta think there.

Was Peanut really retaliating or was he just pulling him off?

That's the thing. It was such a small thing to flag someone for. With everyone in a pile, pushing, diving, punching...hey, look, Peanut's grabbing a guy and pulling him -- oh, now the other stuff is perfectly okay, but THAT'S worth a flag. Bullshit, piss-poor officiating.

  2. Repeatedly the Bears under JA have drafted small school guys in the second round with mixed results. He is another guy that looks like he gets a little overwhelmed at times. Remember Roo Williams? He was so overwhelmed that he felt he didn't belong.First of JAs questionable second rounders. The second one was Tillman. TT I know your passion for the Bears is outstanding but D. Manning is what he is a small fish in a big pond.Letting him do something simple like return kicks until he can get the hang of the Cover 2 might help. Why did they get rid of Chris Harris? he had the same problem of being out of position a lot. D. Manning is a good return man but he has had to play too many different rolls on defense for his football IQ to handle. Yes I said it I think D.Manning has trouble understanding the Bears scheme.

Williams was a 3rd rounder, fwiw.

As for Manning, this is his third year. He's played in the same defense since he arrived. If he doesn't have the hang of it yet, it's not happening.

I'm not saying that IS his problem, btw. Just saying, "if" that's it.

  3. Has there been some disastrous news about Loadholt that I missed? He was considered a high pick if he came out last year (maybe first round, maybe not, but very likely a first or second rounder, certainly top 3). Now the seniors in that group are gone, Bradford is embarrassing opponents, and Loadholt...drops?

  4. You proposed these or got them proposed to you? If these are offers made to you, I take the Welker deal. And run. And hide. Morris is a fine back, but so is Maroney, so is Jordan. Noone stands out, imo. And while Cassel won't be Brady, Welker is exactly the type of receiver he can lean on. That's a steal, imo. Stuckey has to deal with Coles and Cotchery, both very good receivers, and Lewis is an unquestioned starter. Bad deal. Welkaaaaaah. Easy.

  5. Brady Now? Of course not bonehead. Brady first 2 games, look it up.

I don't know if you're comparing Orton to Brady's first two games this year (which he didn't play) or Brady's first two starts ever (next to Orton's 19th and 20th starts). Either way, that is...wow. I award you no points, may God have mercy on your soul, etc, etc.

  6. Well considering that his stats are better then Brady's in his first 2 game I would hold judgement on Orton untill the season is over. Who cares if 150 with 0 intS? Your take on Rex is absolute obsession. You need to look at the bigger picture. You blame Orton for the loss to carolina iam sure. But considering he had the passes completed that were funbled you really have no idea what his final numbers would have been. With continued drives he could have well went past 300 yards in passing if the drives would have continued. so your view is obscure.

Tom Brady? You are comparing Kyle Orton to Tom Brady? Tom Brady, the HOFer who was hurt after playing part of about one quarter of one game? That's the Brady you're referring to?

  7. I wouldnt do it, And to tell ya the truth I see KC getting either one. They are in a group more trouble there then we are here.

Maybe...but it's a double-edged sword, though. If you're in more trouble, then you need more pieces, so those picks are more valuable to you. KC may be closer to a 'screw it, let's totally rebuild' moment than an 'all we need is a qb' one.

  8. lol Yeah but if Turner doesn't call down field passes he gets ripped on here. I think its on the NFL QB to complete them. I mean geez, Orton is so good at stepping up in the pocket and was considered for the heisman.

Not when the Heisman was being decided, and anyway, Jason White WON the Heisman. It doesn't mean much in terms of deep passing ability.

Turner should call long passes for Rex, and a FEW for Orton. But damn, enough is enough. I'd be watching him wind up and I'd find myself already halfway to the fridge for another beer.

Edit: And considering how many deep passes he threw, that should tell you how I felt the rest of the day.

  9. Not that it adds anything new, but to add to the rantpile. Olsen -- WTF??????? Inexcusable. It wasn't even like he snuck up on you the second time. Unbefnlievable. Orton -- COMPLETE ONE DAMN DOWNFIELD PASS. Don't throw that wr screen for the millionth time when they've already been jumping on it. Play calling -- STOP CALLING DOWNFIELD PASSES FOR A QB WHO CAN NOT -- CAN NOT -- COMPLETE ONE. You want a game manager, you got one. Now how's about using him like that? Hell, Chad Pennington doesn't keep going downfield every drive, and he's better than Orton. Stop it. Stop it. Stop. Stop it. Stop. Please. Stop. Stop it. Stop it. Stop.

  10. It'll cost more than you think to get Quinn, and that's IF he's available. Why would his price go down because of two games where the guy ahead of him didn't look very good?

And...I don't think he's available now. Most of the speculation so far is that Anderson could get benched for Quinn, not that Quinn will get moved. Anderson doesn't have a very long contract -- it wouldn't kill them to cut ties after this season (or soon, at least), iirc.

My best guess -- wait a couple games, Anderson will improve. (He had a TOUGH weather situation in the last game. Don't underestimate how bad the wind will make you look.) Then, hopefully, the Browns start thinking about dealing Quinn (probably in the offseason, though). Maybe the price drops, but I've always been a fan, and I think he's worth a 1st. If you can get him for less, hallelujah.

  11. No chance Rex gets cut. But...

Let me say this. While it isn't going to happen, IMHO, the only chance Rex will ever have is outside Chicago. Did you hear the fans booing him. He's the freaking backup QB in a preseason game, and he is getting boo'd, at times when he wasn't even really at fault. Like when he threw it away after no one picked up the blitz.

Also, did you all notice the sideline? There would be Orton, talking to the coach, and Hanie was right there. Rex? Not even in the picture. After Rex went in, and went 3 and out on one possession, he walked off the field and didn't say crap to anyone. Other players were trying to hand pops (or whatever you call it) or ass slaps, or whatever, and Rex would barely notice, looking straight ahead and walking by.

Rex seems disconnected from the team, and hated by the fans. He isn't going to be cut, but does anyone at this point think he made the right call re-signing w/ us?

He acknowledged Kreutz's greeting. The only other one I saw was a coach (Lovie, iirc) -- and you don't really slap a coach on the ass back.

When a qb's had a bad day, his teammates often just leave him be. I wouldn't make too much of that today. Though obviously the fans love to hate him.

  12. Orton and Davis looked pretty good. Had 2 TD's and should've had 3 if Davis doesn't drop one. O-Line did better than expected. Defense didn't look too hot. Grossman looked brutal. I wouldn't be surprised if he was cut. I doubt it will happen, but it wouldn't surprise me if it happened.

For one preseason game? Basically one quarter? It would surprise the hell out of me.

Don't get me wrong -- if Orton hadn't clearly won the job before (imo, they were about even), he clearly did tonight. And Grossman was wretched. But I'd be shocked if they cut him for that, as bad as he was.

  13. The Onion reports on the Bears' offensive strategy: Bears Unveil New-Look-Like-Shit Offense

BOURBONNAIS, IL—The Chicago Bears put on a display of inaccurate passing, sluggish route running, and careless ball-handling Wednesday as the team exhibited their new-look-like-shit offense to fans and media attending training camp to view a full-squad practice. "We finally have the personnel to implement a game plan of high-percentage incomplete passes, completed passes of four yards or less, and a rushing attack that lets us lose control of the game clock with complex plays that take forever to develop and generate negative yardage," offensive coordinator Ron Turner said, explaining why the Bears abandoned the "West-Coast-My-Fat-Ass" offense they ran last year. "I'm confident that both Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton possess the ability to overthrow a receiver on a deep fly pattern or find an open defender and deliver the ball with laser-like precision, so we'll be switching between them often and at random intervals to avoid either one getting into a rhythm or developing any confidence." According to Turner, the offense is starting to malfunction as a cohesive unit and has shown much more consistency at blowing assignments, missing blocks, and fumbling snaps.

The plan begins to come together... :)

  14. Good! And I am being serious. That's who I want to see starting (assuming they deserve it.)

Hester has become the face of this franchise & one of the most explosive players in the NFL. How the hell does he not get a starting job over the likes of Booker, Bradley, Lloyd . . .

I personally don't want to see him on every play. We need to keep him fresh for special teams. But just because he's listed as the starter doesn't mean he has to be in on the first play. Here's how I see it:

We open up at Indy. If we win the coin toss do you think they'll want to open their new stadium with Mr. Ridiculous repeating what he did in the Super Bowl? Hell no. They'll kick out of bounds. So why not have Hester in on the first play? It's not like he'll be tired.

As for Lloyd starting, we've heard nothing but good things about him. If he's outperforming Booker, then he should start over Booker. Period.

Well, everybody wants to see those two start "assuming they deserve it". But I don't see how either one can possibly deserve it over Booker at this point. Going by the recent past, we'd say Booker is not explosive, but he's got everything else -- runs good routes, good hands, good blocker. Also going by the recent past, we'd say Hester can't do any of those three, though he is explosive, and Lloyd has just sucked every which way. If they win the jobs after training camp, okay, but based on minicamp and OTAs? Hell, no.

Plus, I'd like to have at least one wr capable of blocking seeing the field regularly.

  15. No, seriously. Rotoworld:

Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner claims that WRs Brandon Lloyd and Devin Hester will start with the first team when training camp opens today.

Stay far, far away from the Bears offense this season. Even if Marty Booker, Mark Bradley, or Earl Bennett leapfrog the dynamic duo, this is not an offense with the ability to transcend another offseason's failure to upgrade. If the Bears are lucky, the Orton-to-Lloyd alliance may sniff the legendary double shock power of the Dolphins Fiedler-to-Gadsden connection earlier in the decade. Jul. 23 - 9:14 am et

So...I guess we'll be running between the tackles, then.

  16. I quoted from the article that I read when I clicked on your link.

I had just gone to the site minutes before you posted to see if there was any news on the signing. I did not see the link when I went there. When I read your article I went back and again missed the link. You would have thought they would have made this story more prominate on the site since it is by far the issue most concerning Bears fans at this point, instead of a picture of Farve in a Bears Uniform. Sorry, guess I need to be more attentive in the future when I go to search for news.

No, I just didn't understand what you meant. The site's not presented very well. Even now, the Williams story is on the fp, but not on the Bears page. Naturally.

  17. It must be getting very close if they are giving out contract information.

I went to this site and could not find the article you linked to. I am confused.

You quoted from the article. How could you have not found it?

    Now I'm confused... :D

If you mean that you can't find it on the Trib website, just go to the sports front page:

It's right below the stuff on Favre (for now -- obviously that'll change).

  18. I'm not sure KJ ever turns into a guy who can carry the rock 20 times a game. In his career he's done it 11 times. Now, the Lions have sucked for most of that time (if not all of it) but he's constantly been banged up too. So, I'd say, given the 1 year deal for minimal money, the Bears are looking to have him, at best, share the load with Forte and AP. This probably means, when Jones is up to full strength, Forte 15 to 20, Jones 10 to 15 and AP for the rest.

That's the distribution I'm hoping for (except that I'm hoping Wolfe gets a few).

  19. The Bears' business mind-set is obvious: You don't pay somebody for what they have done in the past; you pay them for what they will do for you in the future. That's a smart approach with almost any player. But Urlacher isn't any player.

I just couldn't disagree more with this sentiment. I believe the Bears have spent almost every penny of cap money for years, now. If that's true, the choice comes down to doing what's good for the team, in terms of actual production on the field, and rewarding a player for what he's done in the past. One always comes at the cost of the other if you are spending all your cap money.

I have nothing against Urlacher, nor any player who threatens to hold out or actually does so. But if I have to choose between a better Bears team without Urlacher and a worse team with him, I don't hesitate a moment in taking the better team.

This is a very strange article. It dismisses every argument against giving in to Urlachers demands as "MBA" reasoning, then argues for giving in using only business arguments (jersey sales, icon status, etc). Very poorly thought out.

  20. No and yes. The rookie salary cap only covers the cap hit for the rookies 1st year of their deal, but not the whole contract. So, for instance, a team has a cap of $2 million for their frist round guy, they can only count that much the first year, but then in the second year, the player gets an option bonus of $20 million. That isn't covered by the rookie cap.

Yes, people are suggesting a slotted rookie cap like the NBA has.

Okay, thanks. I knew the rookie cap had those sort of loopholes, but I wasn't sure exactly what everyone was asking for.
