    Best value

I don't have a single objection to the pending marriage between quarterback Mike Glennon and the Chicago Bears. The true commitment is relatively moderate, and the upside for both sides is high.

Ultimately, this deal requires the Bears to pay Glennon like an established NFL starter for one season. He is guaranteed $18.5 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. (At the moment, 12 other NFL quarterbacks have contracts that average at least $19 million annually.)

It's true that Glennon hasn't played (or succeeded) enough to be considered "established," but I can echo what others have said: There are tons of people in league circles who believe he is a starting-caliber talent. The Bears won't be any less competitive with him than they were with Jay Cutler, and at 27, Glennon hasn't hit his ceiling yet. We don't know how good he can be.

If he is as feared, a backup who got overpaid by a desperate team that tried to get cute, then it was a one-year mistake for a franchise that has plenty of work to do in other areas. There is nothing about this signing that precludes the Bears from drafting a longer-term answer. They entered free agency among the NFL leaders in salary-cap room, and who other than the McCaskey family cares if they spent their cash wisely?

As for Glennon, there weren't many teams who were willing to hand him the keys even for one season. He'll get a legitimate chance to show he can be an NFL starter, and the Bears will get a relatively expensive one-year rental that could grow into something more.

Bears are closing in on an agreement with TE Dion Sims, source says. Dolphins had wanted to retain him and Bears checked with other FA TEs.

Tight end Dion Sims plans to sign with the Bears, NFL Network reported Thursday.

The report said the Dolphins had hoped they could bring Sims back. The Dolphins drafted Sims in the fourth round in 2013, and he set a career high with four touchdown receptions last season.

Sims started 22 of 56 games with the Dolphins. He’s been used as a blocking tight end and as an occasional pass-catcher. His 26 receptions last season topped his previous career-best of 24 in 2014. Sims has eight career touchdown catches.

  5. 1. Everyone thinks the Patriots are pretty much the cream of the NFL crop.

    2. Everyone thinks Bill Belichek is a mastermind when it comes to players, seemingly able to use scrubs and get results, casting off guys who do well only to find out those guys falter elsewhere.

    3. Everyone realizes Brady is 39, and pretty much no NFL QB does well much after that.

So why in the world would BB be so willing to depart with Jimmy Garoppolo? Think about that for a minute.

And why would the Bears give up anything for him? Because he played a game or two in the real NFL? With the best team in the NFL? With the most structured team in the NFL? With the best coach in the NFL? He may as well be a rookie. The only positive is he's been in the NE system. Of course, the negative is that if he were traded to the Bears, after one year he'd be asking for a monster contract (much more expensive than a rookie contract). The Bears would be semi-hamstrung to oblige, or go back into the same dilemma.

Trading big time for Jimmy G right now would amount to having complete faith in Barkley after his first two games. We see how that worked out.

I agree, he is just the next Matt Cassel.

Bears receiver Marquess Wilson re-fractured his foot, John Fox confirmed on Friday. This is the third time Wilson has broken the same foot. He is likely headed to injured reserve.

His career may be over. He is having major foot issues which remind me of Yao Ming's. (same foot even)
