  1. I was watching the game last night and right after Blank said Vick might be able to return if he doesnt eat too much fried chicken one of my friends called me and we were curious if it was gonna be brought up today as an issue. Sure enough, theyve been talking about all day. I personally dont think it was meant to be a racial comment but with a subject as touchy as Vick it doesnt surprise me it was brought up.

To some everything is a racial comment. But really I doubt he meant anything by it. It was a STUPID comment, but I doubt it was a racially motivated one. But you have to think he is wishing he had never said it... :banghead

  2. If Im the coach, anyone who is injured, or even close, doesn't take a snap the rest of this season. That means Rex, Tommie, Urlacher, Vasher, Darwin Walker, don't see the field.

Anyone who is either young, or unproven, should get full opportunity to gain experience & prove themselves worthy of a spot in training camp next year. This means Orton, Wolfe, Beekman, Hass, Bradley, Jamar Williams, McBride, Kennedy, Olsen, that DT off the practice squad, D. Manning, Hester, and McGowan should all be in the game for the majority of the snaps at their respective positions.

This team had a bad year, but we really aren't that far away from being a legitimate NFC contender again next year. While roster upgrades, and probably some coaching staff upgrades, will be necessary, we can get a good head start now by identifying which guys deserve a chance next year, and which guys should be cut loose sow e can move on to somebody else.

I too think that all of the young guys, backups, etc. should get playing time over the next 3 weeks. Injured players like you mentioned need to be shut down. Why even think about risking Tommie a more serious injury by letting him play when he is not 100%? Shut him down and let him rest to get ready for when the games matter again. Same thing for Vasher and Urlacher. Miller should get his walking papers the day after the last game, if not immediately, and the same goes for Archuleta, Metcalf, and Turner..

We will have a shot next year to compete if we make the right moves...but will the staff be too stubborn to make them? I hope not...

  3. Now Im Rex supported so Im not just taking a cheap shot at him, but I think Ortons height is really gonna help him behind our line. Grossman is so short that he would have to drop back too far to see over the line and with our garbage tackles he would fell pressure right away. If KO can stand up in the pocket predominately behind Kruetz he should have a couple more seconds to get the ball off.

That is one of the most frustrating things with Rex, and one of the reasons I do not like him...he runs backwards instead of stepping up. 4 yard sacks become 10 yeard sacks with him. Maybe it is his height, maybe he is just playing scared (did you see him flinch on that first play against the Skins?? :bang ) Orton is tough as nails and should be able to step up instead of retreat all the time.

  4. well, hopefully Kennedy can do some good stuff for us and be brought back next season to compete in camp. It'd help us with the offseason.

I think if he does well enough this year to warrant a look, it could spell the end of Darwin Walker. With his bonus due, the Bears will probably want to restructure him, but Kennedy stepping up and playing well in his tryout this year will give the Bears the leverage they need to force him to restructure or cut him. Because they need the depth, and a good FA DT will be more expensive than Walker's Bonus in the offseason.

  5. There are a couple options we have...

    1. If Orton rocks, screw Grossman

    2. If we draft a guy first day (but not first round), like Joe Flacco (me heart Flacco), then I think Griese is the guy to keep along with Orton due to Griese being a veteran and being able to teach the young QB more.

    3. If we don't draft a guy first day, which would be most likely stupid, then yeah, bring back Grossman on the cheap.

The one thing that has impressed me about Griese is how he has been a mentor to Orton. Some QB's would refuse to help a young guy, but Griese has not been like that. That alone makes me think he should stay, especially if we draft a QB. I think Orton will be a good/very good QB and that he will be our starter for years to come. But if I am wrong, keeping Griese and drafting a QB is the way to go. The next 3 games will tell us if Orton will be our starter next year (I think he will be) and that will tell us our plans going forward.

  6. Also, with this site getting bigger (btw, how many more would you expect to join from the old board?), and with the bowl games, offseason, and draft coming up, I vote for a College Football sub-forum and a Draft subforum...

    :)

I can see most of the major old crowd from Bearstalk.com joining, especially if they can get the url to direct them here. It will be nice if we can get all of the old crowd back...at least we all have a fighting chance of keeping up with Nfo and have a head start on him if he comes over! :D

  7. I can't wait to see what he can do...

Make the most of your opportunity Orton!

My thoughts exactly Madlith. Orton has his shot, and I hope I do not have to eat 2 years of crow for pimping him on the board all this time! Throw well and throw often Mr. Orton! My stomach is depending on it! :pray

  8. The need for WR and OL is so much greater that we cant really afford to address QB or RB in the draft unless its on day 2.

OL should be the number 1 priority. I really don't like Rex at all, and wouldn't mind him to leave. Orton and Griese can hold down the fort IMHO. But if the choice is Rex or a round 1 QB, I would much rather have Rex and get a stud OT in round 1. There should be at least 3 maybe as many as 5 good OT's go in round 1 and we should get 1 of them. Then we need 2 or 3 more OL prospects in the later rounds to develop. This team will go nowhere without good young blood on the OL.

  9. Tommie Harris has 7 sacks this season and he hasn't been near 100% all season. Walker is no Harris, but Walker ain't worth the money he will be receiving, injuries or no injuries. He has lost a lot of burst.

And as for Adams, he has played extremely well. He is stuffing the run, and is pretty much the only guy we have that can on the line.

I agree on Adams, he was solid this year and Tommie is just a beast, even at 80%. While Walker may not be worth the bonus due him based on his play this year, I can see the Bear's keeping him because DT's are terribly expensive in FA and if we release him we will have to replace him. It will be interesting to see what the Bears do concerning him because I can see it go either way.

  10. Moose IMHO should be put to pasture. I must admit I was all for his signing when it happened, but he has declined a lot and has a tendency to throw his QB under the bus when he drops almost as much as he catches. I think that Orton would be best served with Berrian, Bradley, Haas, and Hester as his main recievers. I also agree that the TE will help him build some confidence and I would really like to see Turner go 2 TE for much of this game.

  11. Anthony Adams was a teammate of Kennedy's and he has been surprisingly solid for the Bears (I really like the way he defends the run). Too bad Adams has had some injury issues all season.

Darwin Walker has been fighting injuries all year too...not that I really like the guy on the team, but we defend Tommie and want Adams back, and almost to a man we want Walker gone. He was good in Philly. Maybe we should give him another year here.

  12. Pretty easy to get over here....going to take a while to get used to the format...but it will be worth it.

    WMB

It was easy to get to and easy to register...it is weird though. I really liked the old format, but this will just take some getting used to. As long as most of the old crowd comes back this will start feeling like home again.
