  1. No need to apologize, I appreciate you organizing the whole thing.

I have, unfortunately, decided to delete the Bearstalk FF League #2 because of the lack of interest.

With only a week left before the draft there were only 8 teams signed up. When I asked for opinions about playing an 8 team league, something I myself was not too enthused about, only 2 team captains said they would accept that format, another said he would prefer not to but would for the sake of the league.

I appreciate all of you joining the league and apologize for not being able to finalize the league.

  2. I will give it a shot, just sent you an email

As of this morning, 8/17, we only have 5 teams committed to play this year.

We obviously need more interest or I will have to close shop.

The five team captains so far are Adam, TD, BearFan2000, Madlithuainian, and Pixote.

Anything less than 10 teams sucks big time IMO, 12 teams would be ideal.

Can we make at least a 10 team league? Anyone interested?

With the number of great Bear Fans we have on this forum I have to believe we can muster up a league.

  3. Thank you thank you thank you, I actually started to freak out. I thought the site was kaput. It wouldn't have been the same without this unique group of posters. I looked to other sites, sh*t, they were lame.

  4. No worries, each his own. I just can't wait for the next Lynn Dickey era to begin.

I cant agree with you on Erin (that one made me laugh) or Clay. I enjoy watching both play. I will say Brett had a lot more qualities to like, he was like a little kid out there LOVING the game.

I will AGREE 100% on their dickhead of the a coach, I think he is a total douchebag. And I too cant wait for Rodgers playing days to be over so they can go back to being a shitty franchise once again.

  5. I have always despised the Packers, but when Favre was there I'd still hate but respect him. Now with Erin at QB, there is nothing to respect. Their coach is an ass wipe who I believe actually believes that his challenges are not so much a challenge of the call but a God given right for the call to be reversed. Erin looks for a PI on every throw, completion or not; all the while his line holds on every play- the guy is a f**king prima donna. Clay Matthews is a complete egotistical douche. I cannot wait for this team to go back to the teams of the mid 70's-mid 80's nothing but backwater assholes.

  6. Shea is and never will be stout enough at the point of contact. Tired of watching him get ran over. I miss linebackers that drive through ball carriers. Robbie is a disappointment for the second week in a row. But in the end this team was destined to be pretenders. The defense composition was not ideal for the 3-4 with real playmakers and Fangio got more out of them to disguise the talent void. All in all, I'm encouraged even with this record with the new staff and GM. I trust they will evaluate players well this coming offseason and if they don't hold muster they are gone and I'm cool with that.

  7. I'd second the coaching comment as I cannot say that either of the previous two coaching regimes would have made the adjustments coming out of the opening drive. Maybe it was just tightening things up but nevertheless I don't think this team bounces back in prior years.

Biggs tweeted - Slauson said " so many of Jay Cutlers checks were just right on point. A lot of his checks were our biggest plays".

Great to hear this, as last year it was painted that Cutler wasn't making good reads or checks. Different result with the same player, points to one thing Coaching.

  8. With you on this one brother. Joe was the thorn in my football hopes back in the day.

You can take Brady. I'll take Montana.

Let's also not forget, Montana didn't exactly go through the playoffs in that era against easy D's. He played in the era of the Redskins D. The Taylor led Giants. The Bears. The Cowboys. Etc. While the Seahawks are great now, they pale by comparison to the violent carnage that those D's put forth in that era.

I've seen both guys play. To me, Montana is the better QB. Both are HOF's. Both are in the top of all time. I just take Montana each and every time. Again, it's like Walter over Emmit Smith. Sure, Smoth has more championships, yard, etc. But Walter was better. And all else equal, that's the guy I want handling the ball when it matters most. Same with Montana.

  9. Watched the game at a party so couldn't hear the announcers but the on the kneel down at the end of game; way to stay classy Seattle. I don't much care for the Pats but glad to see the Seahawks lose. The lack of composure the Hawks showed on the kneel down was pathetic.

  10. I'm not a Joe D fan but I thought I had heard a number of reports throughout that with the way Emery was playing with the bottom of the roster, roster spots normally reserved for ST players were not. Had to make the job harder. I don't think Pace will take the same approach. I don't think Emery took the 3rd phase seriously.

I don't think our ST coach had a chance. We had so many new people in new positions, it was almost impossible to field a good unit. Rookie punter, new long snapper, no Hester, new scheme, new gunners, new non OL blockers. We got better as the season progressed and will be better this year.

  11. Ernie was wrapping it up when I first became aware of baseball, so I only caught the tail end of what was an incredible career. But as said earlier he was a true ambassador and great person of the field. As time goes by and more and more great ones leave us I am deeply saddened. Rest in peace Ernie, your infectious smile and positive personality will be missed.

  12. Well played. My earliest recollections go back to the days of Big Abe, bless his portly soul! I'm with you, for all the hot young guns out there, when someone like Fox becomes available, you have to look. The young gun the Bears hire could be just another in that long, sad line you shared.

Two years after I started watching Bears football games, the longtime coach decided to re-retire and turn the reigns over to a first time head coach and his defensive coordinator. The resulting season was an injury riddled underacheiving season for the team. The star player got injured and the starting QB got injured and on the last game of the season a game in which if the Bears won they had a chance at the playoffs and in the 4th qtr an interception was thrown in the endzone to end the Bears chances.

The year was 1968, the star player was Gayle Sayers who suffered a season ending knee injury(see Brian's Song), the starting QB was Virgil Carter who had replaced Jack Concannon who came to the Bears in the Ditka trade and he suffered a broken leg after Sayers got hurt and made the team go back to him and Rudy Bukich. The team that ended the Bears season that year was The Packers and Ray Nitchske made the pick to seal the Bears fate.

This history review is just a reminder that this franchise has hired or promoted first time head coaches from within or the hot coordinator in the league for over 40 years since the Ol" Man was the coach. The only two exceptions were Jack Pardee who had HC experience in the World Football League and Mike Ditka who basically begged for the job and was just a special teams coordinator in Dallas. These two men produced the second playoff game in my lifetime and the only SB win in my lifetime.

Prior these two and in between there have been first time HC after another who have not fufilled Bears fans dreams. So in the name of Jim Dooley, Abe Gibron, Jack Pardee, Neil Armstrong, Mike Ditka, Dave Wannstedt, Dick Jauron, Lovie Smith and Marc Trestman all first time HCs please kick the tires on John Fox and any other former HC to right this ship.

  13. With all due respect to everyone else; claiming Cutler's place in Bears' QB lore isn't much to hold the beacon of exceptional QB play against. He may end up holding all of the records, which is a reflection of just how piss poor the play has been from this franchise. The problem is that Jay always morphs into bad Jay, whether its forcing the ball into triple coverage, or holding the ball too long, or the classic "I need to carry the game here at the end, oops, I just threw another interception to a D-lineman"
