  1. No surprise there. :) I'll be flipping back and forth between NFL Network, ESPN and the Blackhawks game. Going to be a fun night! EDIT: My bad, Hawks play tomorrow. That'll make it easier on me!

Don't do that! I was sure the game was tomorrow and about flipped. I want to go to bar/grill to watch and if hockey is on, then I wouldn't get to listen to the draft.

  2. Here is what one draft guru had to say about who we pick

    C.J. Mosley

    Alabama LB

He is one of the most underrated players in the draft, and could be the successor to Lance Briggs or Brian Urlacher. The Bears need to take the best available defensive player. The ideal pick would be Donald, but there is virtually no way he is available at 14. Mosley is every bit the player Donald is. The difference in his draft stock is there are questions about his ability to stay healthy. If the Bears' doctors don't sign off on Mosley or if Mosely is off the board, they could go for Kyle Fuller. Others in the mix are safeties Ha Ha Clinton-Dix and Calvin Pryor.

I am optimistic, if Lewan or Matthews makes it to 12, the Giants will take an OLT. They need to protect there biggest investment Manning and help another 1st RD pick Wilson RB. Then it comes down to STL. This draft can go in so many directions.

  3. Here is what draft scouts has to say about Mosley

Frankly: Underrated here. He is a must-draft, mobile mass of natural football genius who has no negatives and works full speed, full time. Mosley is even a blocker on punts, covers kicks and if you want more, just ask. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange

    PLAYER OVERVIEW

The leader of the Crimson Tide's suffocating defense, Mosley is highly thought of among the scouting community and could end up as a top 10 pick in May. Mosley is as well-rounded and disciplined a linebacker as this draft class has to offer.

His 107 tackles in 2012 were the second-highest total by an Alabama linebacker in the past 25 years (DeMeco Ryans had 126 in 2003) and 48 more than the next Tide defender last season (fellow inside linebacker Trey DePriest). Mosley also recorded eight tackles for loss, four sacks and two interceptions.

Tough and athletic, with the keenest instincts of any linebacker I've scouted since Lofa Tatupu, Mosley is constantly around the ball and is often making big plays as a result. (11/14/13)

In an increasingly pass-centric league that demands defenses go with nickel coverage more than 60% of the time, Mosley has rare ability and range to blanket tight ends and running backs.

Mosley reminds Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Kirby Smart of another ultra-instinctive linebacker — the Carolina Panthers' Luke Kuechly, the 2013 defensive player of the year.

"I've never seen a linebacker get his hand on the ball so many times. C.J. is so instinctive," Smart told USA TODAY Sports. "A lot of people think C.J. is undersized. That is the one knock against him.

    6 foot 2, 234 pounds, 4.63 in 40-yard dash

Lowdown: Last season, Mosley was named the SEC defensive player of the year and won the Butkus Award, given to the best linebacker in the nation. Finishing as Alabama's leading tackler for the second straight season, Mosley had 108 stops (nine for loss) with five pass breakups. He diagnoses plays quickly, plays low and stuffs running backs on sight (see: LSU games). Very rarely was Mosley tied up by blockers or dragged downfield by ball-carriers. Has a clean, dominant skill-set. Mosley's ability against athletic tight ends one on one remains unknown. A team captain, Mosley brought attitude to the Alabama defense.

Three-year starter. Blessed with all the tools of the linebacker trade. Quick hands, quick feet, pass rush quickness, fluidness with good flexibility, acceleration, balance, the ability to redirect, and top level instincts. After all that, the best thing he may do is excel in pass coverage. Good route awareness. Plays square. Works through traffic instinctively. Wrap tackles. Is disruptive as a blitzer and is an impact hitter. He also has returned three interceptions for touchdowns in his career. Plays on all special teams. His 2012 stats: 107 tackles, 4 sacks, 7 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions. Ourlads' Scouting Services

DRAFT NOTES: One of 10 players in nation to earn Unanimous All-American status, Butkus Award winner (top linebacker in country), All-SEC first team selection.

Mosley lines up as an inside linebacker in Alabama’s base 3-4. He is a 4th year senior and while he wasn’t listed as a full time starter his first two years, he got significant playing time and was among the Tides leading tacklers both years. At about 6’2 – 240 with long arms, Mosley has all the tools to be a top NFL linebacker. He possesses very good overall athleticism with speed, flexibility, change of direction and body control. To go along with his size he has very good play strength.

Mosley is alert and instinctive. He is a quick reactor who is consistently around the ball. He is proficient defending the run, in pass coverage, and rushing the passer. He shows his strength and power at the point by shedding quickly and is an explosive, aggressive tackler. He has the speed and range to stop both the inside and outside run and moves easily through trash. Many linebackers are used strictly in zone coverage, but that is not the case with Mosley. He is often put in man situations versus running backs and tight ends and does an excellent job. He can drop, pedal, and turn as well as any linebacker in football. He can react to the ball in the air and has good hands. While not used much as a pass rusher, he is effective when used. He knows how to use his speed and has the hand use to get rid of blocks.

The beauty of a player like Mosley is that he can play in any scheme. He is a fit to play inside in a 3-4, and he has the traits and athleticism to play any of the three linebacker positions in a 4-3. When Oakland drafted Rolando McClain in the first round a few years ago, they thought they were getting a tough smash mouth inside player. It turned out he was more of a finesse player. Mosley, on the other hand, might not have McClain’s size but he is a much more physical player. He should easily be a first round pick.

One of the best things you can say about Mosley is that he can play a number of positions. He was an inside linebacker for Alabama in a 3-4 front, but he can also play all three linebacker positions in a 4-3.

He has good size at 6023 – 234, and he has the frame to play at 240. He didn’t work out at combine but ran 4.61 at his pro day.

Mosley is highly instinctive, tough, and aggressive. He can play the run, drop into coverage, or rush the passer. He has the athleticism to play man coverage on backs and tight ends. This gives defenses a lot of flexibility. Throughout his career. He was always one of Alabama’s leading tacklers.

He will be a similar player to kuechly. Fact is anybody notice that Panthers defense became reverent once he was drafted. A stud defense needs a stud LB. He will not be good as Urlacher was but his present will make people around him better.

You must be a saleman!! Because you are selling him, and I like. If he is all that, then he should be drafted top 15 or higher. I still will stick with Donald, Pryor as my one/two, but Mosely slides ahead of CB.

  4. If you look at the Bears LBs on the roster Bostic is the heaviest at 6-1 246 and Jordon Senn is the lightest at 225. Williams the current starter at MLB is listed at 6-1 242.

Don't forget Shea, who is at 250 too. I guess I wasn't impressed with his 15 reps. He may turn out as good as a Kuechly, but my gut tells me different. LB is a need with Briggs career winding down, but not RD 1 imo. If the Bears do take him. I will become his biggest fan, I just hope Donald is the pick.

  5. I know there is speculation that LB is a big need and Chicago is known for its great history of MLBs. Going through the last 5 drafts, only 3 MLBs taken round 1. Two are from Alabama, Rolando McClain and Donta Highower, and Luke Kuechly Boston College. Size wise, 6-2 265 for Hightower and 6-3 242 for Kuechly and McClain. With this history, would the risk of taking a smaller Mosely 6-3 234 (15 reps on bench) at 14? Plus he has injury history, which may be because he is almost the size of a SS. The only MLB I feel worthy out of this group is Kuechly, and he is a difference maker/probowler. I'm not saying Mosely won't be good...but, he is small and has average speed, and won't fill the shoes of Chicago likeness. He has a high football IQ and that's helped him excel.

My suggestion is draft someone like Zumwalt this year, and reinvest next year. Also having hope that Bostic/Shea can grasp the MLB, because there's not much in terms of blue chip prospects next year draft class either.

  6. I believe you've gotta buy some upgraded version, which is pretty lame.

I have a mock draft problem, but not "THAT" bad of a problem, were I would pay! LoL

Hell, I am already looking at 2015 with a good idea on team needs.

  7. These extra weeks until the draft are killing me. I'm sure I'm like this every year, but my productivity at work is running on empty and I'm just wandering around in a daze. Can't we fast forward to Thursday night already?

It's all down hill now, Blackhawks tonight anyways!

My draft night will be at the Crazy Beaver, having a late dinner and a couple of drinks with fellow Bear friends.

  8. Timmy Jernigan

    Deone Bucannon

    Kelcy Quarles

    Dion Bailey

    Larry Webster

    Max Bullough

    Dontae Johnson

Wouldn't Bucannon and Bailey both be more in the mold of SS? I also see Jernigan going in the bottom half.

  9. I don't really know what to make of those comments. I mean, one one hand, it's pretty intuitive - you don't generally get long-term starters in later rounds. But to say that means the Bears wound't draft a later round QB presumes that long term starters are the only type of QBs that have value in the league, which is certainly not true (and a brief review of Bears history would tell you as much). So, while I don't think the Bears see a QB they draft in this draft as the long term solution/heir apparent to Cutler, that doesn't discount the possibility that they draft one with the intention of getting a quality backup (which this team could definitely use), a short term starter, or coaching him up and trading him in the future.

I still think we should take a flyer on one in the later rounds. Tom Brady is due to happen again.

  10. I don't really know what to make of those comments. I mean, one one hand, it's pretty intuitive - you don't generally get long-term starters in later rounds. It could be more smoke to. Encourage teams that need QB to get one in the first two rounds. I think a qb can be groomed from the lower rounds if a team actually spends the time and effort to develop him. I would like to see a team have the regular coaching staff and then development coaches that can spend more time with the younger players.

  11. Every year there are (football players) that dont get there accolades because of the premium people put on the athletic traits of a player. There's many more examples where the (football player) has made it in the NFL instead of the stud athletic. We do need to add a MLB to the mix. Williams can fill the position but hasnt been a full time starter since 2011 due to injuries and suspensions.Lets say Briggs is still hurt and cant start. Can we feel good if Bostic, Williams and SCM are our starters on day 1 one of the season? S and then DT are our major needs, but dont discount our need at LB. If the surprise pic that Emery delivers to us this year is Mosely with our first pick, it will not be received well by this group.I will have no problem with that pic. I think he will be a tackle machine for years to come, and once the rest of you see him play for a year, there will be tons of fans on this site. I think we need to go S first for the sake of a weak class, and as Emery stated he wants to draft a starter with that first pick. A CB as a high pick wont start day one unless there is injury. DT will be a rotational guy, Safety almost is a guarantee, but a MLB could fill that spot. Borland would be a sneaky good pick in the 3rd or 4th round, but Mosely is the only bonified starter we could draft and that could be the first day.

I have no problems if the Bears see Mosely as a long term answer to making this d dominant again. I also would like to see if Bostic, Shea, and Greene can develop. Regardless, we will need depth, especially after this season. I also think our d will have a different feel to it next season. We will see different fronts and more blitzes, and I think 4 LBs on the field at times. I think that is why we are eyeing Barr if he falls as an option.

  12. There has to be one Long / McClellin reach that they really like. So I'll say Donald, Pryor, Clinton-Dix, Gilbert, Dennard, and Deone Bucannon. Just a hunch.

My take-these are 6 he like, he'd be escatic if 3 are available.

    Donald

    Lewan

    Ebron

    Dix

    Pryor

    Barr

  13. Desir in the 2nd?

a.) He fills a position of need (DT, S, CB)

b.) He likes his prospects from the senior bowl that excelled

c.) He has leaned more towards athletic/physical ability

  14. Today at his news conference Emery talked about he was comfortable with 6 players to take with his 14th pick.

so here is my list, I think he has

Donald- no brainer, but the best DT in the draft probably wont be there at 14-history tells us that

HaHa and Pryor are two high rated Ss that fill a need

Gilbert and I believe Fuller are the CBs that is on his list. I think Fuller instead of Dennard because he is closer of a Tillman like CB.

And the last is C.J. Mosely-He is a high rated LB that I think Emery will consider taking with our 14th pick.

I personally think we will trade back and get a couple of extra picks

So my later in the draft list:

    Fuller

    Pryor

    Ward

    Hageman

    Truitt

    So its your turn

Emery also said teams have contacted him about trading down. But a player they are interested in will need to be available. He didn't rule out offense either.

  15. The all LSU draft, blah:

    TRADE #14 TO CLEVELAND for #26, (2015) 1ST RD PICK, AND 2014 4th RD.

    1. Odell Beckham Jr. WR

    2. Jeremy Hill RB

    3. Ego Fergusan DT

    4. Zach Mettenberg QB

    4. Anthony Johnson DT

    5. Lamin Barrow ILB

    6. Craig Loston SS

    6.0 Trai Turner G

  16. That ends up being a pretty decent draft, but a #2 TE in the first for the Bears is an atrocious pick.

Two TE sets is what this offense needs, but the defense needs to be the focus. If this draft somehow fell this way, I'd be ecstatic. It seems unrealistic but hey, it has me dreaming.

I seen a mock today with Buccanon as the first S taken. This was done by ourlads, which were former nfl scouts.

  17. Not to mention, Jared Allen, The Black Unicorn, BM, Jay Cutler & Mrs. Cutler . . . 2nd largest football market in America. That has to be pretty damn you compelling.

I know the team never wants it, the coaches don't want it . . . the Jets made it to the AFC finals after being on the show. The Bengals unexpectedly made the playoffs. The Cowboys underachieved . . .

Being in the Bourbonnais area might be a little more interesting having cameras in town. I've never asked for autographs, but shared handshakes, beers, and games of bags and golden tee with many players. Not sure if they follow the players out, but if so i may get a cameo.

  18. Im with Donald, but I know he wont be there. either safety or I want Mosely, he is a stud LB, will enhance any team he goes too. Why CB when you have been selling the depth theory?

So if Greene, Bostic and SCM are our LBers , your good with that? Briggs has issues, Williams is an injury waiting to happen. I think Mosely is a potential, all star type LB, only Bostic has any inclination of that happening and that will be at Briggs spot.

I'm fine with Mosely, but like mentioned before I would prefer Donald, Dix, and Pryor before. Shutdown corners are a premium, thats why I think you take one before a LB.

  19. Really?

I'll take the fool. Maybe not being around a thug coach can do the guy some good... That would shore up our middle with a quickness...

    Depends what they want...

Detroit may be using Suh as bait to trade up for Watkins.

Another trade possibility is SF looking to trade up for WR Mike Evans. If Evans makes it to 11, doubtful, the Giants would love to move down with multiple needs at TE, OT, C, DT. That may give the Bears a shot at Donald. But SF will be a player in getting Evans.

  20. To make that move it would cost more than that. If there is action on Donald, we wont be the only ones going after that pick or another and exchanging a 3 and 5 is chum change.

Pick 11 is worth 1250, pick 11 is worth 1100. Our 3rd is worth around 200, there 5th around 50. It worked out value wise.

  21. Bolded sorta confirms what many have said ever since that draft. Lovie got too involved.

That draft and many before, Phil's first draft sure felt like Angelo was still pulling the strings. At least they threw anchor before the boat hit shore. I think repairs could be made this year to float again and then they can start adding the upgrades to operate at full speed next year.

  22. I love Aaron Donald just as much as anyone and I don't think I'd do it. At least not in this draft that is stockpiled with talent.

If it was for Clowney I bet you would. The reason I'd consider this is Donald fills the one position we need the most. Some scouts have said he is a top 5 talent and if he had 2 more inches, he'd be considered the top pick. We still have the same amount of picks, just 100 slots down the chart.
