#1- Garza has been terrible for 5 years, and is not a starting center at this stage of his career anymore. This extensions makes no sense..
#2- Why is this Bears front office making moves for next season already. This tells me that Emery is coming back. If he was going to be fired, you'd think he wouldn't be allowed to make such a move..
This is so depressing..
1. I expected to see De la Puenta to get this type of deal
2. The draft is not very strong for Center. The top two are categorized as zone blocking scheme fits and would do better moving in space. Later round picks Brandon Vitabile or Nick Martin might be an option, but wouldn't be expected to be NFL ready. Cameron Erving played C, but may get drafted to play OT. So they are insuring they have an option and might also re-sign DLP.

I had an interesting conversation from a person that spent some time with the team. I'm not naming my source, but...
On Trestman: Knows offense like crazy. Runs an ultra soft camp. Players were actually lobbying to hit more. Some pleading to the staff that they needed contact. Practices lacked intensity. Offense completely dominated the defense.
On talent: Cutler is a stud. Of all the QB's he's played with, Cutler was the best at running practice and making sure players were in the right position and accountable. Quoted, "dude is misunderstood", "good teammate", "leader I would follow", "hard worker".
Marshall, Bennett, Jeffery and Forte are talented in that order. We all know about Marshall, but it was said that Bennett is a beast. Probably the 2nd best "all around" TE in football.
Eric Weems: Team misses him. Held ST together
Hester: Team scratching head. They all knew how good he still is. TeamlLost some heart when he left.
Peppers: Team understood the math, but see Hester.
Briggs: No comment
Conte: Softest safety he's seen. Doesn't like contact. Fast with good instincts in passing game, but...
Vereen: Clueless with no instincts. Doesn't understand how he was 3rd rounder. Didn't even game plan against him when he was at U of Minnesota.
The team has good individual talent but lacks direction. Again, stated Trestman was a good offensive coach and the O destroyed the D.
All said, I'm wondering if our D was so bad that the offense had nothing to work against. Remember how they used to say our defense made our offense better? Haven't heard that this year from anyone.
Vereen was a late 4th, nearly a 5th RD pick.
But interesting info!

Down to a few days until Black Monday. I am ready to put an end to the season and see how devoted the Bears ownership is to selling their product to the greatest fan base in the NFL. I have to say I will not be satisfied with their actions unless they put a football mind in charge of all decisions. The coaching staff has to go, which is easy because the players will never buy into them again. Emery may survive, he has made costly mistakes, but with structure above him and a competent coach below him, he may be servicable. If they drop only the coaches and Phillips and Emery survive, I will be highly disappointed and would expect more mediocrity and expect to see more women in green and gold.

If we could get some team to take his contract and we get a pick for him, I say dump him. I would rather move forward with Clausen and whoever else we can get and start over completely. I totally agree we need a rebuild in coaching all the way up to McCaskey.
It will be very unlikely that any team will trade a high enough draft pick to make it worth our while and it's unlikely a team will take his 26 million guaranteed contract anyways. Chicago fans and media, not saying you, have always wanted their QB ousted. Going back to the days after McMahon and Harbaugh, this team has not had stability until they actually committed with Jay. Getting rid of Jay, just to get rid of him would be a huge set back on a team already depleted on talent. Most people see that the bigger issue to fix is the structure of this team from top management, to the GM, and to the HC. If ownership gets serious and invests in those first, let them evaluate and put pieces together.

I was going to say 6-week PUP list for sure. Peace
This created a huge need going into next season. Pass rush has been disappointing this season to begin with, especially since we invested into 3 big name FA's. I cannot see them releasing Jared Allen to create cap and our #1 pick might have to go DE.
Randy Gregory, Leonard Williams, Shane Ray, Trade down: Dante Fowler Jr, Round two: Shawn Oakman, or Noah Spence.

Lovie didn't have the history of Austin when he was brought in. Named coackes are good for rebuilding, but most coaches don't succeed on their second or third run.
Arians is the coach ppl name that should have beern brought in over Trestman. He was successful with one of the best QBs in the league in Indy Austin was also an interm coach and went 2-1 when he was with a team that fired their coach before.
3 Super Bowl experience as a position coach and turned around a D that we have seen break down when it matters. Detriots O sucks, their D is why they were in the playoffs and why he is a great canidate.
I think he would be a good choice as long as he knows of a good OC that can groom QBs.

There is almost no doubt now in my mind that Cutler is not the right one for this system. With essentially two journeymen able to come in and run it effectively then there is no question they wasted all that money on Cutler.
IF Clausen were able to continue to play like he did today then yes I'd be ok if he started. Like to first see how he does next week before I finalize my judgement.
Speaking of a Cutler deal with the Titans. How about the Bears make a deal straight up for Locker?
"This system" will most likely not be the same system they run next season. I did like the moxy Clausen showed. You can hear and see him run the offense before the snap. I am not sure he if he is the answer at QB, but he showed how it should look like.
The only way I would want to see Cutler traded is if we recieved good compensation. The rumor of it would cost a 2nd for a team to take his salary would be crazy for the Bears to do. They will have a lot of cap room next season with his salary regardless. To be honest, the benching may be the best thing for him. He will have to compete to become a starter again and if he screws up enough I wouldn't hesitate to sit him again.
Only a week away for the firework show to start. Should be interesting to see how serious McKaskeys are.

Keep Trestman and start Clausen!!!! We found our HC and QB!!!!!!!!!!!
Now we stop hearing about your love for Lovie!!!!! Lol
Now what can we get for Cutler lol? I heard Kristen is even trying to trade him off.
Now that Trestman has this team going. What will this team do now? Fire Emery for signing Jay and forcing him on to the coaching? Hate to say it, but Clausen has moxy right now and the team is starting to buy in. The defense is even up beat.

Late round draft picks have very high failure rates. A lot of them get picked and very few turn into Brady / Russell. Flacco was a very high pick. To me, I'm looking at guys that play in pro-systems if I am drafting them early. I just can't use an early pick on a spread offense guy.
The only player I would be alright drafting is Conner Cook MSU, that's if he decides to enter.
Mariotta will be gone and Winston would have too many issues to go along with his INTs. I really hate to see them have to go QB this season. The 2016 draft would make the most sense, but Cutler may have forced the issue sooner. Time will tell which direction they go. One guy I think can get the most out of Cutler is Kyle Shanahan as HC. He has fiesty and comes from a good coaching tree Kubiak/his father which ties them to Jay and Brandon.

You can have a team of pro bowlers (Bears offense) and they would look like garbage if they are not on the same page of understanding their scheme/job. Is it a thought that maybe the performance is a reflection of the coaching staff?
This team can be turned around, but it is going to take strong leaders. I would start out with Phillips and get him out of the football decisions. I would not want to see Phillips make another attempt on a GM. I think Emery can be a good GM, if he has a strong guy above him and below him. The head coach needs to have the energy to feed the players too. Tired of the quiet hide in the corner guys and no I am not saying I want Ditka to come and throw gum screaming and Singletary to drop his pants. I want a coach that makes it fun to play and makes it exciting for the players to buy in.

The one about Briggs and Tillman! Lovie had so much respect from his players and the loss of Urlacher destroyed any small chance respect would be won over by anyone that replaced him. The thought Marinelli, Lovies pal, would stay to be the bridge showed it was going to be a tough sell.
Goes to show you when you change a regime, do it completely. Any player that you think will resist change needs to be released. Peppers had a terrible year and was not going to lay it out. Briggs half arsed it and used injury. Tillman I won't question and have respect for. Emery gambled on an unknown QB guru and retaining a respected Tampa coach and failed. Hopefully he learned If he is given another chance.

I could not be any happier about this game. Down 45 points in the fantasy football championship game with Drew Brees and Mark Ingram left to play. Ingrams TD in the last minute puts me up by 3.5 pts. I am just glad the Bears season no longer matters to me but to get a higher draft pick and find real management.

With the media furore and the fans venting their frustration I hope whoever makes the decisions after the season is over does it rationally and without emotion.
The first thing that should be considered is do we want to go through a Chicago Cubs rebuild i.e. Get rid of Emery, Trestman, coaches and playing staff because if they clean house from top to bottom then who ever comes in will change the players.
Whether a rebuild is or isn't required should be determined with the following observations:
1. What affect they last 2 seasons can be attributed to Angelo's drafting. If you look at Greenbay the majority of their roster is built from drafting. This gives you more options for building a roster and not have free agents come in like Peppers and cripple your franchise. Also we may have drafted a QB and not needed to give Denver those no. 1's for Cutler
2. Can Emery and the player evaluation team start drafting players that are comparable with Green Bay.
3. Is Trestman able to keep the players, coaching staff bought in that he is able to lead men. The trouble currently seems that he is giving them ownership of themselves hoping they can make the right decisions that are required to help the Bears achieve their goals. Is this philosophy naive and do they need greater direction.
4. How much influence has Lovie's players like Briggs, Peppers etc. had in the past 2 seasons an in someways sabotaged the new regime.
5. Can we win with or without Cutler. Is it possible to take the poor decision making made by Cutler by really running the ball more. Is the oline good enough because I feel the biggest weak link in the line is at Center. If you protect from the inside out then surely the Center is the most important position. What are our options if we choose to cut or trade Cutler. Howdoes his salary cripple this team.
I have used Green Bay to judge ourselves by because they seem to be doing things the right way and until we can complete and beat them we are going nowhere.
I do like Emery and unlike a few, I think his drafts have been decent if you throw away his first one. Maybe the same can be said on his coaching hires. Throw away this first coaching staff, because Trestman couldnt handle keeping things in house. The leaks to the media have been sickening. I would almost say someone is leaking the play calls also. I would reach out to Holmgren with a proposal to coach a year or two, develop his replacement HC and then step into the President of Football Operations. It could be a dagger to the guy who hires him, but Emery could learn and survive which I believe he is smart enough to.

It is a good move, not only to keep poachers from swiping him from us, but to possibly get him some action once we've been blown out of games. No sense risking Jay the remainder of the year with playoffs out of question. Jays contract is guaranteed, so yes we do need him healthy.
-
Technically his career was over about four years ago when he was injured the first time in Denver. He was such a horrible signing.
I remember when Clutts was with the team and how effective they were in having him at FB. Still can't understand why they went away from it. I realize that was before Emery's time but still....
I believe Clutts will be a FA after this season. Go get him Phil

Ian Rapaport apparently brought up the name Wade Phillips as a possible DC replacement on the radio yesterday. I haven't heard the interview yet, but I heard that's a name that was brought up. If true, I'd be all for it. Wade has a history of taking over historically awful defenses and making them the #1 or #2 defense in the entire league the very next year. He also might be the only quality candidate to replace Mel Tucker in a lame duck year under Trestman because he's old and most teams aren't calling asking for him to work anymore.
And to think Paul Pasqualoni (Bears D-Line coach) replaced Phillips as interim DC the year the Cowboys fired him. Well we know Pasqualoni/Phillips worked together....they are both 3-4 guys along with Clint Hurtt and Reggie Herring. Maybe this is the direction the Bears are thinking?

What good old coach or up and coming coach with options will want this job? It's not a favorable situation for a guy to want to come out of retirement and could be a career killer for a young coach.
The QB sucks, the elite rb is going to be 30, the defense if devoid of talent, and Emery is a crap GM.
A great coach wanting to relive the glory days. Sure it's been bad, but what's the point if you don't have any hope. They need to figure something out with what they have to work with.
