  1. True, but more often than not, guys were benched for being real bad. Brandon Merriweather and Chris Harris went from being starters one game to benched the next for getting beat deep in coverage repeatedly.

Considering Chris Harris had a damn good year in 2010, Merriweather was a pro-bowler, Major Wright was a 2nd round player, and Craig Stettz a veteran 4th round pick, it's concerning Conte was lifted to the starting position not because he earned it, but because everyone else was worse.

Injuries have decimated the Safety position and it doesn't help that all our safety picks are from later rounds. Looking around the league there are not that many really good safeties so I guess that position is a revolving door for more than just us.

  2. Two Preseason games in the book the roster is starting to shape up. With Davis being a lock  This is what i think the 53 man roster will look like:

    QB Cutler Haine

    RB Forte Jones Wolfe Peterson

    FB McKie

    TE Olsen Clark Davis

WR Hester Bennet DA Rideau Iglesias Davis

    OT Pace Williams Shaffer

    OG Beekman Garza Omiyale Buenning

    C Kruetz Raiola

    DE Oguleye Anderson Brown Idonjie

    DT Harris Adams Harrison Gilbert

    MLB Urlacher Hunter

    WLB Briggs Williams

    SLB Pisa Freeman

CB Tilman Vasher Graham Bowman Mcbride Moore

S Manning Afalava Payne Steltz Bullocks

    P Maynard

    K Gould

    LS Mannely

    Notable Players Missing:

Knox ends up on the Practice squad

    Roach Could switch with Freeman

Gaines Hasn't done anything and Kellen Davis is Looking really good

Baldwin No space for him too deep at DE

    Melton i think gets IR'ed

Toeina Depends on what we do at CB may end up making the team

  3. Good approach Jerry. Last season people seemed to get complacent and while I like both Idonjie and Ogunleye, Oguneley specifically hasn't played all that well over the past 2 seasons so he needs to show up motivated and kick some butt.

Ogun is looking for a new deal when he never lived up to his original deal. Is he looking for a new deal for less money? Idonijie on the other hand has done everything they ask him to do, i could see working out a deal with players that live up to or surpass their original deals during contract years other than that shut up and play.

  4. The Skins under Snyder are a joke.

    Peace :dabears

Haynesworth is one of the top 3 defense players in the league so his contract doesnt bother me but they just signed Hall to a 9 mil per yer deal the guy just got cut last year that to me is a joke.

  5. The Trib is speculating that the Bears should go after either Fred Taylor, salary cap casualty of the Jacksonville Jaguars or Duece McAllister who was released by the Saints. The Trib says that McAllister is a higher risk with his injuries that he has had since his 1,000+ yards rushing in 2006. Would it make sense to sign either Taylor or McAllister as a compliment to Forte' at this point or do you see someone else out there that is a possible free agent or someone that we may be able to draft in a later round as a compliment to Forte". I kind of like the idea of either one of these proven backs who would probably be able to mentor Forte' a bit more on the fundamentals of running in the NFL. I do not want either one to come in and replace Forte' however, it would be nice to be able to give Forte' a good breather once in a while during the game and not loose to much with switching to another durable back. What do you all think?

I feel like we should give Wolfe a chance there are always veteran backs available throughout the season so i would wait both these back are similar to Forte. A change of pace back might service this team a lot better and we have one in Wolfe on our team so lets give him a chance.

  6. Agreed about Asomugha. I love to have him, but we already have one of the highest paid defenses in the league, and we aren't very good. I don't see how throwing even more money at the problem will fix it.

I want to see us continue drafting corners. Don't forget that Zach Bowman will be back.

I think Zack Bowman is actually going to be good so i dont think we should sleep on him just yet.

  7. Orton does need some help though. A main reason there were so many picks was because Orton had little time in the pocket, and all of his receiver were blanketed. And when you are down like we were, you gotta force it.

We def need a WR I dont know how many drops were in that game but Orton never had a chance. In the first half he was hit receivers on the hands, Im surprised we didnt exploit Olsen enough but this loss is on the heads of the Orton and the WR's. St. Clair tried but i cant belive that left him on an island against one of the better pass rushers in the game. Really to rush over a hundred yards on the number 2 rushing defense you have to give the Oline some credit but Forte cant do it all.

  8. Well for the first Time I ever seen it, Forte Da Man Is leading all Rookies in Rushing and is 3rd in recieving. If the kid does not get Rookie of the year award people are stupid.

    Link to show

Matt Ryan maybe even Joe Flacco will be OROY while Matt Forte is having an amazing rookie season its alot easier to do so at the RB position than it is at the QB position and both of those QB's are have really good seasons.

  9. I am not a huge Rex fan but I think he performs while Orton is out. He has three or four weeks to show the NFL that he belongs and he is practically fighting for his career. The Bears are not going to sign him after this season so he has to perform to show other teams out there that he can play in the NFL these couple weeks ahead are maybe the biggest of his career lets hope he follows suit.

  10. With all do respect, maybe in your mind, but I seriously doubt in the mind of most voters.

Forte has a 515 rush yards and a 3.5 ypc average, compared to Johnson, who has 549 and a whopping 5.3 average. Add in that Forte is going into his bye, while Johnson has already had his, and w/ Indy this week, Johnson is likely to pad the lead.

Hey, we all like much of what we have seen from Forte, but he ranks high due to his high number of carries. Voters will look at averages, and Forte's average is very Benson like.

One other who I think will get a lot of support is Matt Ryan, who we made look like an MVP, much less OROY.

I think Matt Ryan wins it when ever a Rookie Qb is doing well they usually take it.

  11. The lack of a pass rush is killing the defense. These guys up front need to get it going or we'll be giving up 30pts every week especially with all the problems in the secondary. Run D from the line seemed to be good but the LB didn't show up today.

Mike Brown is no longer the same player and while he might be on this team next year we need to get his replacement on the roster next year via draft or FA.

Urlacher is no longer making eye-opening plays. He's still a good LB but I haven't seen anything special from him in a while. Today he got caught up in the wash too many times.

I can give the youngsters in the secondary credit for hanging in there and making some game changing INTs. It was either an INT or we gave up a TD.

Kyle Orton gets a game ball again. He just keeps getting better. We lose our top 2 WRs (Lloyd, Hester) and it doesn't seem to even upset the offense. Kudos to the TEs and Turner for getting both on the field often. In the second half Forte had some good runs finding holes on his own again. Someday when he runs behind a good Oline (I hope this will happen) he'll be fun to watch. OTOH the Oline did a good job on pass protection.

I can't recall the last time I saw the Bears win an offensive shootout. I told my son during the game, this is not your father's Chicago Bears. If we can get the D turned around we'll win the NFC North. That might be a tall order.

I think Babich is killing Urlacher with this play all the LB's at the line of scrimmage crap that barely gets any pressure and the cover 2 just get eaten up in the fourth quarter. I am really think safety rd 1 or 2 Kevin Payne is gonna be a staple in this defense he is the hardest hitter next to Briggs and he rarely gets beat, Mike Brown is def done i think he maybe gone after this season.

  12. In defense of Graham, Vasher was no Vasher when he had as little starting experience as Graham.

While I am not saying Graham played well, I think there are plenty of veterans, who I have far greater expectations for, who did little to step up.

In simply looking at CBs, I thought Tillman was picked on more than Graham. Tillman looked pretty bad.

In the secondary in general, how bad as it become for Brown? Speed was never his greatest asset, but due to intelligence, he was quick to get to the play. I don't know if he is simply that much slower or what, but he always appears a couple steps late. And didn't he too have a potential pick fall off his fingertips. Yea, it wasn't an easy catch, but I question calling out Graham when Mike Brown was doing little better.

Getting away from the secondary, how about that DL. Sure, they stuffed the run, but are they expected to be so one dimensional? Zero sacks. ZERO!

And how about our all-pro LBs. What the hell did they do? W/ so man slants, I would have expected more from our LBs.

So you want to criticize the play of Graham, fine, but I personally will hold off on ripping a young backup CB when our pro bowl starting veterans looked like crap.

    Amen

You hit on everything the only way this defense works is if we get pressure on the QB this is the second zero sack game this year. Ogun is not producing and i feel we say that every year. The only good thing that came out of this i can see is I feel that a fire is going to start in them, this is a team that knows it can be 6-0 right now the offense for the first time in years is not the problem. I feel sorry for Minnesota cuz a loss like that does not leave a good taste in your mouth especially when your biggest problem is finishing games I expect them to come out hungry real hungry.

  13. Right now what we are is a top team playing not to lose. We have a good if not great defense and the best special teams squad, but our offense is lacking. lacking not because of talent but because of I'll play it safe mental thinking of our coaches. In the NFL you are here to win just look at Denver last week against the Chargers. Did they go for tie with the extra poinf......no they went for two and won the game. I ask you if you get off the bus running and it has worked well why don't you spin off that. MeaningPlay action passes. Lining up in the Shotgun is just telling the defense you are going to throw the ball it some point.

Lovie and Turner..whoever is calling the plays need to think about what it is they are trying to do win or keep from losing. What the devil are you throwing a 1 yard quick pass when the corner is sitting on the route? Are you trying to get the ball picked off? How about using the stop and go with a pump fake.....seems to work alot to me. If Moose could get open using it then think what Hester or davis/Bradley Booker could do.

I'm sorry I love this team but it seems like the coaches are letting this talent we have go to waste. We should be 2-0 with games like the Bucs, Philly, Lions, Falcons Vikings, Lions, Titans coming up. Out of the fisrt nine games we sholud be 7-2 and I said that Colts and Eagles would be the teams that would beat us. We beat the Colts so 8-1 is what we should be after nine, but we can still be 7-2. and 8-1 for than matter.

I dont mind playing not to lose especially when we dont have an offensive star. We are in the bottom of the NFL in most of the offensive starting categories. We have a WR by committee meaning all of our WR's are mediocre our QB is a game manger that cant complete the deep pass. We found a diamond in Forte and we have an awesome TE duo but you have to play to your strengths, DEFENSE and SPECIAL TEAMS. We have superb defense and for them to be more effective they need to be fresh we run the ball and pick up first downs on 5-7 yard passes eat the clock keep the defense fresh and the Special Teams gives us good field position. I want to see us win every game but we are not built for that, right now we are built for being in every game with any team in the league until we get some offensive firepower right now i think the game plan is correct for the personnel we do have. I think we end up 10-6 or 11-5 and get a wildcard birth by playing not to lose.

  14. There are few elite teams this year, we saw 2 of the better ones last night in Dallas & Philly. Pittsburgh, Denver, NYG, and SD (despite 2 losses) are right up there. I agree, the Philly game is going to be a TOUGH one.

Philly is an elite team but the Dallas Secondary is real suspect its really going to be a hard game but they are not going to pass all over us like they did Dallas.

  15. Minnesota

    Lee Evans

    Neil Rackers

    Oakland DEF

  16. Defense

I dont know why but I am not really worried about the defense. I dont think that they are going full tilt Mike Brown on that play was watching the backfield that not his kinda of mistake. I remember last year during the preseason the defense looked ok but then the first game against the Chargers they looked unstoppable. I feel the intensity we see now is not what the Colts will see. All those fat contracts that got paid people are going to start having to owning up to them.

    Offense

Turner is the guy im getting angry with I swear we have 1 or 2 running plays and every team knows it. Forte just kept running up the middle with this line thats not gonna work. Forte keeps working his ass off he is a 3 down back and i want see defenses having to face him in the 4th quarter he could really be the savior of the offense. Davis is what they said he is the best receiver on the team. Lloyd and Booker disappeared this week but Booker was never a preseason warrior he will get the tough 1st downs when they matter. Orton poised stepped up in the pocket i actually enjoyed watching him play. At first i thought the staff was giving it to him but he earned it. Rex needs to go he doesnt care anymore you can see it in his face he doesnt want to be here anymore.

    Special Teams

Dave Toub is going to tear into them this unit is supposed to be perfect and they made alot of mistakes. They also showed why they always finish first in special teams blocking punts and FG's but Gould i think I would rather have him 10 yards shallow then kicking the ball out of bounds.
