Does Dan Hampton think he has a strong arm? Does he think he throws a good deep ball? Our receivers were open deep all year. He didnt complete one pass. Look, we all want the same thing, but please stop with Kyle is the answer. The receivers we have and want are home run threats. Whats the point if you cant get the ball to them?
-
Forget the tools! How many times were receivers wide open downfield but he couldnt get him the bal? How many times did it happen today? Not one reception all year over 30 yards? Hester strength as a receiver is ability to run past defenders, but it doesnt matter because Kyle cant get the ball there. Teams know how to play against kyle. Force him to throw deep or outs. He doesnt have the arm to do it. They didnt know this at the beginning of the year. Next year will be much worse. AGAIN, you cant teach arm strength. I want a franchise QB as much as you do, but Kyle just doesnt cut it.

Rex said the EXACT same thing.

Orton looked good today? Come on now. Thats just biased. He was OK. I think his stats were better than his play (Dropped int's, missed opportunities etc). He looked good throwing intermediate passes against a poor defense. He stared down his receivers resulting in countless incompletions. He held the ball far too long in the pocket. Did I mention he rarely threw to his second option? He missed passes downfield when they were open all day. He simply doesnt have the arm strength. With our "receivers", we need a qb that can throw deep, or throw the out pass. Kyle can do neither. I believe Kyle's success at the start of the year was due to the same set of circumstances Rex had success two years ago. No one knew what he could do well or poorly. Once they figured him out, they started taking away the short pass and dared him to complete something deep. He cant. We need a new QB. Kyle can be our back up. Now please just explain why Donovan is out of the question and what is wrong with Cassell?

I am in a little disbelief that you guys are giving Orton another free pass and essentially crowning him our starter for years to come. Yes, he had a good first few games, but ever since his injury he has been very poor. He is incapable of throwing a deep ball. We cant stretch the field with him. Teams next year will simply play the saftey closer to the line and completely shut off his strength being the show passing game. You cant teach arm strength. He doesnt have "it", never will. Kyle missed at least 5 deep balls today to open receivers. That could have been the difference in the game. Today, contrary to popular belief, I felt he was bad. He locked onto receivers (to the level of grand frustration) and held onto the ball too long in the pocket. As previously mentioned, he missed several open deep receivers. Better receivers wont help us if Kyle cant get the ball downfield. If Donovan is available, I pray the Bears go after him. Cassel would be fine too. But Kyle is not the answer, but he can be a solid #2. Today was BS.

What is reall going to piss everyone off is if we do end up with 10 wins, and win the division he may even get Coach of the Year consideration. Why? 1. Team was not expected to win more than 5-6 games 2. Team doesnt have a QB or any wide receivers 3. Offensive line is old 4. First round pick didnt play a meaningful down, where he was slotted as starter in the most important O-Line position 5. Team will have won last 4 games, when they counted the most. 6. It can bactually be argued that he has done MORE with LESS than any other coach in the NFC. We all know he doesnt deserve it (See games vs ATL, CAR and TB), but there will be talk. Scary.

My my. Bobby Wade, you can go F*CK yourself. But what the hell are we going to do about Kyle??? Maybe Turuner will realize that we should just run the ball 40 times a game with a few play actions... Kyle is bad. We are lucky. And I will take both, if we keep winning. GO GIANTS!!!
-
And now we collectively pray. PLEASE KYLE! Just one big drive...PLEASE
-
Maybe I was wrong, he is just terrible.
-
We are down 7 and still refuse to at least MIX in a run... I love the game plan.
-
Uh...at least he has a point. Since his injury, he has not been close to the QB he was prior. But for some reason I have faith. It has been a very weird week.
-
I miss Brendon Ayanbadejo... and a QB that can throw a deep pass
-
Kyle has been Krap since he got injured. Just not the same QB since then. Do something to at least spark the team. Rex for a series, throw a deep ball. Kyle was indecisive, stared down receivers and checks off to his tight end on 3rd and 10? Please... Defense was bad, but only gave up 14. So in theory we are still in the game. This better turn around on the first drive of 3rd quarter. What a piss off. Playoffs? Can we draft a coach in round 1? Bears 20-17. Rex wins the game...yes I am drinking...

I, for one, would love to see Hester make it. He would then be able to learn from real pro bowl receivers and maybe pick up a few pointers. It reminds me of when Jerry Azumah made it as a kick returner but played DB in the game. I thought this would really translate well for him in the next season. But if I recall correctly, he hurt his neck that year and never played again. Hopefully it works out better for Devin.

I think it was a bit of both. If we thought the Bears had issues tackling, the Rams were about 50 times worse. On Oguns first sack we stacked the line and blitzed; He actually ran a stunt. No one picked him up, so credit must go to Babich. Second sack was a play action roll out and Ogun KEPT to his responsibility and didnt chase the RB. To his credit, he closed very fast. On both Harris sacks, it was a quick move at the line and rediculous closing speed. Browns sack was about speed to the outside and the QB taking a 5-7 step drop. Anderson also played well, but no sacks recorded. On D we looked very good, but against a very bad offense missing its best lineman, RB and after the first series starting QB. But we could have played down to the competiton and didnt, at least in the first half. Offense looked good (Running game at least), Orton had his moments but will have to play better. 3rd down conversions were just bad...

From Peter Kings Monday Morning QB - 10 things I think I think http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writ...3/Week12/4.html 9. I think we learned this about the Cardinals Sunday: They will never win a game at Giants Stadium in January if they have to play there. Come to think of it, what NFC team will challenge the Giants in the NFL Championship Game? I'll tell you the best team, and Cris Collinsworth agrees: Dallas. Number two for me: Chicago. Talk about respect from out of nowhere. I hope the team can live up to the "hype". *** Sorry about the triple post, my computer went a little nuts.

As I am certain that you watched the game, Orton was not close to being ready to play. Rust does not accumulate that quickly and he was off all day, missing open receivers, locking on to targets and getting balls knocked down at the LOS (I didnt know having a sprained ankle makes you shorter). This is not to mention the fact he was visible limping and immobile. Just the fact that he was cleared to play displays the inneptitude of our coaching staff. At least the week before Rex put together a few good drives and 14 points against a FAR superior defense. Though the point is mute, and the team is certainly looking ahead to the Rams, I dont think Kyle SHOULD have been cleared and Rex SHOULD have started this game just based on the fact that Kyle was too injured to perform at the required level to win an NFL game. As was proven last week, an injured Kyle IS NOT as good as a healthy Rex (But when both are 100%, there is no debate - appologies to Bears88) I just feel, to be fair, that if Rex played like Kyle played, this board would have called for his quick departure (more than the usual) and that Kyle, though admirable that he played through pain, should not be givin a free pass. Just ones opinion. Trying to keep perspective.
-
This still does not explain why he was playing in the first place. If we had to limit the playbook due to his injury (and he clearly was not close to 100%) then I believe his decision to play was selfish. At least with Rex we had use of the roll out and play action pass. I realize we gave up 37 points and our defense and coaching stinks, but if Rex could have built on last weeks game against a great Defense and put up a few scores by half time the game could have been completely different. So why, I ask you, did Kyle choose to play, knowing the offense would be hampered by his injury?
-
I find it very interesting that this ENTIRE board is mum on Kyles performance yesterday. I find it admirable that he played, dont get me wrong, but his lack of mobilty restricted play action calls and roll outs. If he couldnt play at an highlevel and he knew they would have to restrict the playbook due to his injury, he should not have played. We can debate all we want about the coaches and defense, but he was simply bad yesterday. He locked on receivers, he missed open guys downfield, he threw into coverage, he had 3 ball batted down at the LOS. He produced the fewest points, yards and first downs of any Bears game this year. Although I do believe he is better than Rex and has proven it this year, he also proved that the team should have gone with a healthy Rex over an injured Kyle. I believe his decision to start was admirable, but selfish. I hope he heals enough so that next week we can implement the true playbook. If not, I would prefer to see Rex in the game.

Rex didn't lose this game, the Defense did, which is why the press is actually reporting on how poor they are playing. It is possible, you know, to actually win a game with only scoring 14 points. I am however not excusing Rex. He was bad in the 2nd and third quarter. I am also saying if he was better than he played (regardless of practice time) he would be a starter and not a back up. So Rex is in fact like many back ups, in the sense that he is not good enough to play every game, but can fill in time to time (He led us to victory last week, fell short this week, if he does start next week, it should be his last for the season) I dont doubt Kyle would have played better than Rex did. But I just cant seem to get the point accross that since Kyle could not have played, arguing that he would have played better than Rex is mute. So let us actually debate things that could have changed, such as running Forte more than 8 times in the second half, Why Hester cant do anything well in the return game any more and why our defense is 31st in passing D.

Alex Brown added, "When you give up 7-yard passes, 10-yard passes and guys are running free and unblocked ... we're just not getting there," defensive end Alex Brown said. "I'm going to stop here before I say something I regret." Also heard Alex Brown say in an interview (heard it on the Score) We did our job. We stood up when we were supposed to. So are Harris and Brown calling out our CBs, or the coaches who direct how the CBs are supposed to play? Also, regarding Brown's 2nd comment, I have noticed all year that our DL often seems to take X number of steps attacking the QB, then just stop and standup. I guess they are trying to get their hands into the passing lane, but at the same time, they quit on rushing the passer. Never understand that, but really question it after Brown's comment. This is easily the most interesting point I have read in a long time. Urlacher does the same thing on blitzes. They rush for 2 seconds and stand up. Thats when the QB, who has felt no pressue, just picks us apart. It has been extremely frustrating to watch becuase it seems our players are giving up. Are they just "following orders?" What kind of scheme is that? If you dont get to the QB on your first 3 steps then stop, because the QB will be throwing and you should knock down the pass? I hope someone actually looks into this and finds out what is going one. I would love Babich to explain that. Maybe it is indeed all about scheme and not so much the players. Can you change schemes mid season?
