  1. I'm hoping for a win but not expecting one.  Stafford knows our D very well, and he's finally on a team that has a chance to be good, he finally escaped Detroit.  His experience against us should be a decent advantage.  It really all hinges on our offense and more specifically our line play.  Give Dalton time and he can pick you apart but more than likely he's going to be under pressure a lot so it will be tough for him to be comfortable back there throwing.  If we can't get the ground game going at all we'll be toast, no matter who's behind center.  Field's mobility and threat to run would help but we can't be one dimensional and walk away with a win.   My other key is turnovers on D, we will need some especially if we can get some short fields to work with.  If we're constantly working from the shadow of our end zone it'll be a long day.

agree, and his ball placement was dead on on every throw. early on the WRs didnt make the catches and use their bodies right ont he slants, but JF put the ball where it belonged. He looks like a QB.

I think he had one or two balls that sailed on him a little.  One he was probably just throwing it away towards the sideline, the other was just a little off but I'll take that in a heartbeat compared to how accurate the rest of his throws were, not only on target but placing the ball where his receivers can actually do something with it after the catch.  Air ball Mitch couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if it wasn't 10 yards or less.  I watched some highlights from the Bills preseason game and his ball placement is still an issue, receivers are having to bail him out on catches.  It's so refreshing seeing a Bears QB able to do the things that Justin can do, and he makes it look effortless.  And he's showing these things in his first preseason game action with backup receivers, and patchwork line.  Defenses are going to have to play coverage and have to utilize QB spys.  I'm sure they will try to blizt him, but the trick becomes maintaining contain with his speed and elusiveness.

  3. His first two possessions he was put in rough spots one drive killed by penalties backing them up to their own goal line forcing a 3rd down play that essentially just gave the punter more room.  Did we ever start a drive from the 25?  Seemed like we always tried returning the kick and never reaching the 20, I could be wrong but I don't recall good starting field position other than after a Miami punt.  I felt like the play calling was a bit conservative at first perhaps playing it safe to allow Fields to get his feet wet.   I like that he drove us down for a FG at the end of the fist half with less than a min to work with.  And carried that momentum forward into the second half.  It's one preseason game and it's early in his career, there will be mistakes, but he lead the Bears to 17 points through about 2 quarters of play.  I won't put him in the HOF yet, but contrast his first outing to Mitches first outing and Fields inspires a lot more confidence going forward.  It's different for us to expect great things from our rookie QB rather than praying our rookie QB doesn't suck.  I'm hoping he turns out to be the steal of the 2021 draft.

I saw the calmness that he's been known for even when things didn't go well on his first two possessions.  You saw a calm poise, his accuracy was on display and he didn't get rattled.  I saw a QB that can make things happen when a play breaks down.  It's going to be hard to defend him.  One play that stood out to me was when he took off like he was going to run, causing the DB to leave his man, and he stops and drops the ball right into the receiver that was open because the DB had to respect his ability to run.  That will be dangerous and it all looks so effortless with Justin.  This kid may just save Naggy's and Pace's jobs

  4. They were talking about it on the NFL XM station this morning.  They did bring up the dynamic about bringing Foles in to replace an injured Wentz and how that could create some drama for Wentz in sort of a "here we go again".   Another name they brought up was possibly reaching out to Rivers and see if he would be willing to come back.   Bottom line is they need a veteran QB to step in, Foles has said he'd prefer to go somewhere where he has familiarity.  The Colt's situation could work out well for both them and Foles.  I don't think this will create drama but Wentz and Foles are both professionals and understand the situation, I don't foresee either one of them creating issues.   I also don't see Rivers coming out of retirement.  I could see Foles being up for this opportunity to go from our 3rd string guy to at least a temporary starter.  I'm sure he believes he can still be a starter in this league and this gives him the chance to prove that and audition for his next gig rathe than be buried in our depth chart and not see the field.

  5. That was the first thing I thought of when I heard about Wentz.  Perfect opportunity to deal him if not to Indy another popular speculation is the Jets.  Dallas could be a possibility too with Dak's injury.  I'm glad we didn't win the Wentz sweepstakes.

  6. While I would have been happy to see Rodgers go away in 2021, the deal basically sets the stage for him to leave next offseason.  He will likely have some say in where he goes or if he decides to stay in GB beyond 2021.  Basically the deal the struck will give him control of where he plays in 2022 and beyond.  It only makes sense that Adams is now reconsidering signing long term with GB if it means he'd be there without Rodgers.  He knows that would have a negative impact on his game, and overall effect on the Packers going into re-build mode.  If Rodgers does leave I bet Adams will either want to go with him or to a contender.

This year could effectively be the Packers "Last Dance" season.  Next offseason could be fascinating to watch who all jumps ship when Rodgers leaves town.

  7. I wouldn't worry about Moony yet he's only entering his second season.  With the added cap, and like Adam said we have dead money coming off the cap, and freeing up more space by making some cuts, and possibly other minor restructure.  Now would be the time to make one last push to get Arob on a new contract to ensure he stays beyond 2021, perhaps address Roquan next year if there's not enough room to do him and Arob.  With Fields on the rookie deal for 4-5 years (assuming we extend him before he gets to the 5th year option).  We have time to build around him on offense.  Would love to see Robinson locked in and I'm sure having the opportunity to play with a QB like Fields has to be far more intriguing than the direction of our QB room prior to the draft.

  8. My Dad and I went to the Monday nighter in 2014 where they retired Ditka's number and his coaches sweater lol.  That was the coldest football game I'd ever been to.  We were three rows from the top.  The stands were practically empty till close to kickoff as most people were in the only heated area of the stadium.  The restrooms.  By the time we got to our seats we were getting pretty numb.  We took the South Shore from either Carrol Ave or Michigan City.

The way I look at it is it's smart to consider your options and explore them.  A bid doesn't = a purchase agreement or final purchase.  If they win the bid and do purchase the land, then they still have options, if the want to at some point move to Arlington then that's on the table, if the later decide they'd rather stay at Soldier Field then they could turn around and put the property up for sale themselves.  Flexibility is always a good thing.  I'm sure if they did move they'd strongly consider building a stadium that could host a SB, and perhaps that's part of the reasoning in making a bid.  As I'm not from Chicago I can't really comment on which is better for the fans, though the vibe I'm getting is Arlington could be a better gameday experience.  While part of me (the nostalgic side) thinks no they should always be at Soldier Field for the tradition and so on but if the game day experience is better, stadium is easier to get to, better parking, etc. I can get past the nostalgia of Soldier Field.  Us Chicago fans love our nostalgia.  Wrigley, the old Madhouse on Madison (prior to the united center), and so on.  These buildings become part of the team in a way, but sometimes change is good.  Who's to say if they move to Arlington the new stadium can't have some features that will feel familiar.  Either way it'd always be the Chicago Bears.

  9. Good to hear, hope it plays out that way on the field.  If the D can get back to where they were under Fangio and our offense takes a leap forward in being a competent NFL offense or better we could have ourselves a team that could dominate.  This offseason has the potential to be a turning point in this Franchise.  The fanbase is hungry or should I say starving for a winner.

Something to think about.  Read an article on Devante Adams and this is his last year under contract.  If Rodgers is gone, should he play under a worst QB?  or hold out to get his money before he plays this year? If he has a bad yr because of a bad QB,  that could cost him 5 mil a year when he goes after a new contract. That would be awesome he Rodgers leaves and Adams holds out for a contract extension.

would be even sweeter if we lure Adams away from GB if we can't keep Robinson.  Having Adams on our roster and us getting the better of GB would be fun.

  11. I'm hoping it's possible that Robinson now has more motivation to stay with Fields on board and taking the offense to a new level once he's ready to take over.  Perhaps this will motivate Robinson to work out a deal to stay here and be a part of this.  Fields represents possibly the best QB he'd ever played with. On the other hand if this is his last year here, then I think the Bears will still be alright.  We'll draft and probably bring in new FA's to take his place.  I feel like we have a QB in Fields that will make his receivers better, rather than a QB who needs his receivers to make him look better.

    How about this for Fields?

I like when he says "yeah, to the wrong team". "Packers".  The kid gets it that we the fans hate the Packers and want our team to treat them like the enemy.  It's part of saying the right things, here's hoping Justin helps us stick it to the cheeseheads twice a year.

  13. While it's a new system for Stafford after such a long time in Detroit, his time there hasn't exactly been stable coaching staff wise, so he's more used to change than you might think.  Also it's hard to argue that his supporting cast in LA will be an improvement from what he's had in Detroit.   I wouldn't count Stafford out.  I do agree that their D could take a step back but still lots of talent on that side of the ball.  It will be a tough week 1 matchup on the road.

  14. Yeah, this list doesn't make sense.  Mond won't see the field unless Cousin's get's injured.  Fields will likely start the season from the sidelines and at some point replace Dalton.  Most annalists had Fields as the top 2 or 3 QB in the draft.  Even Lance will likely start at some point.  Mond has potential and I will say that had things not gone the way they did I would have been ok if we ended up with Mond.  He's got potential and talent, but a little raw, he would have been my choice of the second tier of QB's in the draft.  But to rank him behind a QB in Fields who could have gone as high as 2 or 3 in the draft is absurd.  Time will tell but at this point this ranking makes no sense.

  15. The schedule is one of the things outside our control.  I’d rather us be challenged in season to prepare us for post season.  Too easy of a schedule and can prop up a teams record. We’ve been there feeling good about our record that was somewhat hollow and it showed in the post season.  You take it one week at a time and focus on beating the team in front of you each week.  I would rather enter the post season knowing we fought and earned our spot.  Unlike last year when we lucked in because they added a 7th spot in each conference. And needed someone to lose to get us in because we couldn’t take care of business.

  16. Watched this the other day, very good detailed breakdown.  There is a 2 of 2 film study on YouTube as well.   Kurt has a great way of explaining what's going on in the film study and I like that he talks about the difference in how he would read a play vs how QB's are taught read (outside in, vs inside out).  Excited to see what this kid can do.  He's got things to work on just like any other rookie coming in.

  17. Another thing Fields exudes is confidence.  Mitch looked scared to make a mistake most of the time.  Justin looks at the game with the mentality of we are going to attack and exploit you.  Plays with confidence, and a killer instinct.  Mitch's limited abilities, experience and fear of screwing up made him timid, and unsure of himself.  Good kid, good teammate, just not a leader at the QB position that you need to win in this league.

The main thing that excites me is that I never heard a single story about how Trubisky did anything like this, ever.  The most exciting story I heard about Trubisky, is when Pace went down to visit him and he booked the private room under the name Jim McMahon.  That's actually sad looking back...

It really is sad.  I’m tired of looking to the past to find success. We’ve been looking back at 85 for 36 years. I remember that teams comments about finally getting the monkey off their backs about the 63 team being the last championship.

The difference between Trubisky and Fields is night and day.  Both got a big reaction from the fan base  Mitch was a groan Fields made us want to dance in the streets.

I think Fields has the lowest bust chance of any QB in Bears history after Sid Luckman. For every other QB, there was a higher risk of them not living up to potential. It seems like, at worst, Fields will be a dependable long-term starter, and at best, a perennial All-Pro QB. For Bears fans, that just does not compute.

Here’s to the dawn of a new era. If Fields turns out to be that perennial all pro, image a Bears QB being in the conversation of league MVP. I too think we got the QB with the lowest bust potential. It’s still hard to believe. What a difference a draft makes. Time will tell but it’s nice to finally look at the Bears future with hope.

  20. LOL that twitter feed is priceless.  I would love to see Rodgers out of there and Love and Bortles battle it out for who gets to hold the clipboard.  But till there's an actual report of a trade being done, I won't hold my breath.  In the mean time I will enjoy the drama.

I was so close to giving up on this team - something I NEVER though could be possible. And now, we have real reasons for hope and I am drawn back in, just like ASHKUM says.

Whether it's fair or entirely true, if things turn around, we are just going to say "Trubisky was a huge mistake, and the reason why everything fell apart" and not even  going to remember with much emotion who even drafted him. Nagy, for all his faults, inherited Trubisky.

With the new QB, who is probably right now the best QB in Bears history, even though he hasn't even made his rookie mistakes yet or thrown a single NFL pass, and some truly nasty picks, including Tevin Jenkins here, we seem to be getting an identity. A BEAR identity. A tough, grind it out blue collar Grubowski like Jenkins is something we have missed for too long. And Fields is something we have never had at all.

    Bear Down.

While I could never bring myself to fully give up on the Bears, I was on the verge of not caring or watching the team this season.  I just didn't think I could put myself through another throw away season watching my team compete only for a high draft pick.  Last years games were mostly unwatchable yet glutton for punishment I was I still watched though I found myself shutting the games off early.  From the end of the season presser when they kept everyone other than a couple scapegoats told me they didn't care about winning or improving the product on the field.  It made me apprehensive about the draft since our GM was in "save my job" mode my expectations were quite low and my fears he'd sell the farm to trade up and take take a bust. I had visions of 2017 all over again.   But then some magic started happening.  SF was the team who gave up a ton to take a project QB, and Pace was the one who bided his time and worked a deal with the Giants to steal Fields at 11, and he wasn't done taking Jenkins, and Borom to upgrade our OL, and got talent at each pick.  On paper this is undoubtedly his best draft as Bears GM, probably our best draft in a long long time.  Time will tell but we as Bears fans went into the draft with fear, and came out with hope and optimism like we haven't experienced on draft day.  I will never forget the Trubisky trade up draft.  Everyone including Trubisky was surprised he was taken at 2 after getting fleeced to move up one spot.  Pace then compounded that error by drafting Shaheen in the second.  The only bright spots in that draft were Jackson and Cohen.    The other guy who's name escapes me isn't even in the league anymore.  So only two of 5 draft picks from that draft are still with the team.

To quote Lloyd Christmas "Just when I thought you couldn't get any dumber, you go and do something like this... and totally redeem yourself!"  Not that this observes Pace for his many sins as GM but it's a heck of a start.  I would not be surprised if he and Naggy have bought themselves some time.  If this is the start of them turning the corner then I'll gladly eat crow.
