Pace has given up so many draft picks over the years. That has hurt us this year, next year and for the last several years. Poor long term strategy.

The play calling is still too conservative. Outside of the INT, did Fields have any high danger passes?
He wouldn’t have done worse and he could have watched and learned. It did no good to start him so why do it? Rodgers sat for years behind Favre and he turned out ok

Exactly. It’s not blown calls it’s lack of production. We are not a force in the division, we are mediocre. Why are we giving up draft picks every year? Why are we starting a rookie quarterback who is not ready? Why do we have a coach who insists on calling offensive plays when he has been shown to be a failure doing so? I could go on and on. The issues are with management

How can we keep blaming blown calls and conspiracy theories? We lost, if it had gone the other way the fans of the other team would be giving up the same excuses. We lost. We are not good enough. Why? That is the question

The only thing I was thinking was giving Fields more time to get prepared to start, I hate to see him pushed and worry he will be ruined like MT was. I would have liked to see him have some more time to prepare to start but not necessarily the whole year.

The problem is he targeted the wrong guy.He definitely did in that case, but I would argue he did in Miller's case too. It seems every draft he is moving up and giving up picks or something in return. Then he reaches on guys like Floyd and Shaheen.

One of the biggest things that Pace does that irritates me is moving up in the draft and giving up picks. Think of all of the times, AKA Miller-Trubisky, that we moved up and in hindsight didn't need to. Quit giving away picks Pace!

I am hoping that Pace and Nagy and company will make the Bears better. However, I am not entirely sold.
Pace's decisions are questionable are best; Glennon was a disaster is the easiest example. Constantly trading up and losing draft picks is something I don't like to see either.
Burton was third string in Philadelphia. Trubisky is unproven. Robinson is coming off injury. Our second round WR draft pick , Miller, has never played a down in the NFL so who knows? Nagy is in his first year as a head coach.
I think there are reasons for hope but am have a wait and see attitude. There is a lot to be done with the team to get it to a high level and we are in a tough division and have a tough schedule.
I am hopeful. But will wait for results before drinking too much kool aid.

I am really surprised, of all people to have in media JC would have to be one of the last I would think fits. He was criticised by Bears fan for lack of emotional response and he is going to telecast games? Oh well, best of luck to him. I am just glad he is finally gone.

I don't believe this rumour, but isn't it strange that all of the rumours about the Bears wanting Trubisky were right? Have to wonder....

I vote for Miles Garrett if he is available, if not Allen. No QB for me.

The Bears were 12th in the league with 37 sacks, yet somehow they were last in the league in takeaways. That tells me there were several coverage sacks, and a lot of opportunities missed.
With multiple key contributors missing for the entire year, that no doubt affected the results. Floyd, Goldman, and McPhee playing the entire year likely means at least 5 more sacks, which puts the Bears at a tie for 3rd in the NFL. If the Bears were healthy, however, I don't think they would have had that many more takeaways. Other guys missed some time as well, but none of them appear to be the game-changer takeaway guys the Bears need.
Let's assume full health next year. That means Kyle Fuller is playing for his life and hopefully does better, and the collection of LBs (especially Trevathan) put in a bit better work. But the Bears still probably need someone to catch those INTs. Because of that, I'm steering more towards the idea that the Bears need 3-4 secondary players in FA or in the draft.
FAs -
1. Eric Berry - Do everything to get Eric Berry. Hookers, condos, deep-dish, add in incentives and bonuses, let him choose a retired number, absolutely everything to get him.
2. Riley Reiff - He fills a need, he's one of the best available, he's still relatively young, and is better than either OT on the Bears. Added bonus: poaching within the division.
3. A J Bouye or Malcolm Butler - This is Kyle Fuller insurance. Fuller, Bouye, and Butler are all probably #2 CBs, and could start if the Bears couldn't get a lockdown #1 CB in the draft.
Draft
1. MG or JA - Either one transforms the Bears Defense when they replace Unrein, who is a place-holder and backup. Adding Myles Garrett or Jonathan Allen as the DE in the 1st adds sacks, minimizes the pocket time of opposing QBs, and increases the chances for INTs.
2. Lock-down CB - I'm sold on the idea that CBs with potential in this class are thin after the 2nd round. One must be grabbed fairly early. There are multiple there, and I think I prefer Desmond King at this spot, but if we were going with my philosophy of needing play-makers,
, despite me not being his biggest fan (see above), might be the best bet. There is no denying he is an explosive, ball-hawk CB. Also, he doesn't quite pose the "super athlete"-enigma that Jabrill Peppers poses (e.g. Devin Hester). Jackson has always been a CB, who just happens to be such a great athlete that they get him some snaps on O & ST. He'd likely be in the kick return mix as well.3. Jordan Leggett, TE, Clemson - I like him or Evan Engram here. I think either is a future pro-bowler, but Legget's size is hard to ignore. He would be a great weapon for a young QB.
4. Ryan Switzer, WR, North Carolina - The Bears need sure hands. Few hands are surer than Switzer's. He immediately fills Eddie Royal's disappointing and likely departure. He also competes with Adoree Jackson for kick return duties. He becomes the young QB's security blanket. This is also somewhat hedging the bets on needing sure-handed guys since Kevin White is an unknown, and Alshon is likely gone IMO. There will be a lot of short passing and running, which is fine because it fits the defense-first team well.
4. Chad Kelly, QB, Ole Miss - Speaking of young QBs, here he is. This guy is still probably the best on-field QB in the draft. His ACL injury will drop him in the draft, and he was already going to drop because of his off-field personality. I've been on record many times saying I don't care about that stuff much. He's a leader in the same way McMahon was a leader.

- He has 15 INTs in the last two years, with, and is a very willing tackler. After someone on the board mentioned him a while back, I've done some research. He seems to win every 50/50 ball, has good route anticipation, and destroys plays on the edge. He comes in like a strong safety just itching to blow up RBs on sweeps and WRs on screens. He should be getting more love. He may go earlier than this.7. Weston Steelhammer, SS, Air Force - With his size, stats, and production, I don't know why he's not getting more love. Last year I called out Kwiatkowski as a guy I thought should be getting more pub. This year I'm about to get on board the Steelhammer train. Great name, tackling machine, rangy in pass defense, great hands, and a rare ball-hawk at SS. Being from a military academy means virtually no character concerns. I wouldn't be surprised if this 7th rounder beats someone out for a position.
I like the way you are thinking, the only thing I might change is a WR instead of a TE. I am worried about the WR position if we don't get AJ back, KW is a big question mark and all we have is CM that is worthy of starting besides AJ.

He is no guarantee but he has time on the NFL field,plus working un Belick and Brady, I think it gives him an upper hand in being more ready from the 1st game on. If he was in this years draft he would be the first QB off the board.
STRENGTHS: Good, not great, height, body type and hand size. Better than adequate arm strength with a snap release that produces some juice. Live arm with his experience coming from a pass-happy offense.
Excellent passing vision with quick eyes to scan and a quick, natural delivery. Smart and executes the offense well. Quick intellectual process on the football field. Above average timing with little unnecessary movements and very good pace in his set-up.
Quick feet to evade pressure with the pocket mobility to move his lower body with his eyes focused downfield. Gets "happy feet" at times, but shows the ability to reset. Very good touch and overall placement with improved accuracy to all levels of the field throughout his career.
Level-headed and always under control with a strong leadership presence. Confident thrower and short memory. Elite career production as a four-year starter at the FCS level.
WEAKNESSES: Lack of elite velocity will show on some NFL throws. Needs to continue to improve his decision-making and not allow pressure to severely alter his process. Bad habit of forcing throws in small windows. Lower-than-ideal release point with an almost side-arm motion.
Needs to get his feet under control on a consistent basis and regularly step into his throws. Must continue and develop his pocket awareness and internal clock to feel pressure. Holds the ball too long at times and will take unnecessary hits.
Experience is in a FCS spread, shotgun attack; needs to become more acclimated with under-center snaps.
COMPARES TO: Tony Romo, Dallas Cowboys - The comparison goes beyond coming from the same college program. Both lack elite physical skills, but are productive due to their timing, smarts and quick release to get the ball out.

If his upside is Tony Romo, I can live with that.
The problem I have is that we have to give up so much to get him and he has done next to nothing in the NFL. He is almost as much as an unknown quantity as a college guy with more years on him, and we have to give up a 1st and 4th it is said? Protected in a dominant team like NE lots of people could look good. I would rather pick BPA and try to find a guy without the hefty price tag.

A great pick by Pace and Co., looks like a world beater. Has a very unique style, so strong but elusive too.

I would of thought that Barkley would be in the mix too, but with getting benched against the Vikings, sucking the last few games and now Mayer saying so definitively he is out makes me wonder. Not that it would break my heart at this point, it is hard to imagine why he stunk so bad the last few games.

What does everyone think is going to happen with Barkley?
I didn't watch the second half of the Vikings game but saw he got pulled...that seems like an ominous sign.
Also, watching "Lunch With Larry" and he is saying he does not see Barkley coming back and forecast Hoyer and Shaw in the mix....interesting view from a somewhat insider that he would say so blatantly he did not see Barkley in the mix.
