i have to respectfully disagree. he doesn't deserve credit, he just got it from the media for that ONE superbowl. if it was a fair evaluation he squandered the talent on that team with his stubborn nonsense (just ONE example... can you say flutie?).

on the defensive side the players paid absolutely no attention to ditka. it was ryans show completely. that is why they put him on their shoulders after superbowl XX. there were two head coaches there until ryan left (ryan actually hated ditka and it showed).

even jim mcmahon thought ditka was an idiot. he just had the balls to tell ditka to stuff it and do it his way. speaking of mcmahon, his attitude brought the whole team up and got them fired up more than ditka ever did (maybe a hampton exception LOL).

after XX ditka was more interested in making a dollar and making the talk shows than winning another one. he gets no credit from me.

Totally disagree.  How no credit at all be given to the HC of arguably the most entertaining and dominant Super Bowl winners of all time is beyond me.  All of the criticisms are subjective.  How about we judge results for a change?  Or do we want to keep blaming outside forces for success or failure?  Justin sucks because of coaching right?  Give me a break.

I would say the current issues with Fields is a microcosm of the systemic issues that are the current Chicago Bears.  I would think the macrocosm is the overall system (aka organization).  How far up does the dysfunction go is the question to ask. To the pic below I would add that there are a bevy of other issues that factor into the equation to include injures and third stringers starting in key positions (oline and def secondary for sure).

I can’t disagree with the overall dysfunction, but you could have Jesus coaching Fields and he still wouldn’t be kicking any ass.

Actually both can be true at the same time.

To be clear, I don’t believe coaching can be blamed for all of Fields problems.  That’s what they said about Trubisky and he went to some other teams with other coaches and hasn’t set the world on fire.  Fields would struggle regardless of who was coaching him.

  4. I wouldn’t be looking to fire Poles, he has made some very good moves.  However, if we don’t start looking better pretty soon, some of the coaching staff has to go.  The two that spring to mind is OC and HC.  DC is already gone, and the whole thing seems to be handled pretty poorly so far.

  5. Interesting development given the poor performance of the defence and media attention.  Kind of makes one wonder more about the whole drama of the offensive lineman who couldn’t practice for nearly the entire preseason.  Not much confidence emanating from this bunch at the moment.

They could easily cut Whitehair and get a lot more cap space. As someone that was for drafting Young and trading Fields, I wanted them to build around Fields so that there are no excuses this year.  I've been here through the Grossman vs. Orton. Cutler vs McCown. I'm tired of potential. I want to see someone actually just show you need me to be your QB, and Fields is still in a position to not be able to prove himself so far. It sounds like Whitehair will be moving back to Center, and this line even with a rookie or 2 OL, still not good. I want Fields to show he can be that guy this year, i'm just tired of excuses and the bears had the cap space and draft capital to remove excuses. Herbert and Foreman are no where near the threat in the run/pass game as Monty.

I think Herbert alone was better than Monty last year.

Finally we get the Rodgers ownership out of Chicago.

I am going to be so happy not to have to see his smug face twice a year.  I hope he flops in New York and Collingsworth and Co are forced to say how bad he sucks, haha.

  8. I hear you, but I don’t agree that race necessarily played a part in this issue nor many other issues that the media would have us believe.

I will leave it there as I don’t want to infect a great sports page with political issues.  I hope that this site stays well away from politricks.

I never post much due to knowing full well I don’t know as much as probably everyone else here about football and tending to put my foot firmly in my mouth at times, particularly after losses and other aggravating events.

I visit this site daily multiple times and count on it while so many things in my personal life change and I can’t count on them anymore.

Thanks everyone, and back to my hidey hole I go, lol.

...Except he's under contract for another 2 and a half years. Soooooo....

Sorry, when discussions about keeping him came up I assumed his contract was ending.  I certainly would never sign him to a big contract again, regardless of excuses he sucked for the last two years.

  10. I wouldn’t even consider signing him again, he and Goldman could start a club for players who played lights out in the year before their contract is due and then absolutely dogging it until their next contract is coming up.  Please rewind back to the last two years before falling in love with this pretender

I know everyone has been hyped about Fields over the last few weeks, but Eddie Jackson needs some love. He leads the NFL in takeaways with 6 (4 INTs and 2 FFs), 3 players have 5, and 2 have 4. So outside of those 5 players, Jackson has double the amount of takeaways than every other player in the league this year.

The most takeaways he had in one year was 8 (2018), INTs was 6 (2018), and FF was 3 (2020). So he has a great shot to break all his personal records with 8 games remaining.

He must be due to get a new contract, he has taken how many years off since his last one?

So now after this one I have concerns about Fields. 11 Pass attempts in a double digit loss. On the 4 and goal missed sneak drive, I don't even know if he attempted a single pass.

He is now getting to historic levels of bad and even I am making excuses for him. Bad O-Line, no WRs, etc, etc. However, no other QB with comparable situations is doing this bad.

For comparison, Mitch was in a new scheme with a new HC in Year 2 and didn't have stinkers like this.

In no way am I writing Fields off after 2 weeks, but man, he needs to shows something soon.  Fields had the lowest QBR ever for a QB last year and has now opened up this year WITH AN EVEN LOWER QBR (24.0) only higher than Maker Bayfield (23.8) who has been awful. The same bad trend line has not moved. He has a couple of blips but his overall pattern trends as a mediocre NFL backup.

I agree, I think we are in trouble.  I hope I am wrong but I don’t feel the future looks good with Fields.

Last night they alluded to the fact that Poles said the Bears were "closer" to signing Smith. I am hoping he does before the next preseason game so he can play a drive and get ready for the opener. If Adams is injured the Bears are super thin at LB.

Please for once do the right thing and dump the players who need to be dumped.  Let someone else deal with this guy and take what we can get.  And on his way out, he can take that press statement and shove it straight up his ass.

Something of note.  ‘Twitter speculation’ (such that it is) is that he may not return from Seattle.  And that ‘they have lots of picks’ to trade.

I hope he goes soon.  He is a distraction and a nut job.  Get what you can and be happy you don’t have to put up with his behaviour again when he wants something.  He will be a washout that will never fulfill his potential due to his vast ego

  15. This guy pulled a stunt early on in his time here and he is obviously a bit strange to think that he doesn’t need an agent to manage his affairs like most everyone else.  Then he puts out that ignorant press statement.  I hope he is gone even if we don’t get what we want for him.  I don’t want to cheer for prima donnas like that.  And, who needs to pay for a top 5 ILB who wants to be paid like the best?  The position doesn’t warrant the money

  16. 35 minutes ago, Connorbear said:

He said it was a take it or leave it offer. We actually have no idea what has been said or exchanged. The major point is he shouldn't be negotiating. He should have an agent.

You also note he has no leverage here. That is the most important point. They'll eventually reach an agreement.

    Peace

But who wants a cuckoo kicking up fuss like this?  Linebackers are not a high value position.  I would dump him now for a good trade or draft pick.
