  1. Kruetz has clearly been our best olineman this year. He's gotten absolutely no help from the guards since 06. He's mediocre now, but I really feel if we upgrade both guard spots, we could see Kreutz play raise up a notch. Its clear he is no longer the player he used to be, but he's only 32, still has some years left, and actually seems to give a damn.

  2. If this is true, that is crazy:

Its really not that crazy. I dont want to start a race debate and Lovie obviously is not a racist, he has a white wife. However, he has the attitude that minorities need more help and should be handed things. This is the same attitude the President of the United States has, and hundreds of thousands of other people, black and white. Just look, this nation uses affirmative action for deciding who gets hired or accepted into college.

I won't say its racism, cause its not. However, Im a firm believer in everyone is equal, no one should be handed anything because of anything. The most deserving and best for the job should get the job.

And the thing that really pisses me off is that this is in sports. Now, sports should have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with race. 99% of the time, race is the last thing anyone on the team or coaching staff cares about, winning is the priority. Well, I guess we now know where Lovie's priorities lay.

  3. On one hand, a chance is a chance and you never might know what happens with that shot...

However, on the other hand, no big deal. Gaines Adams is god awful and I'd pretty much expect him to do what he's done his whole career thus far, and be a blocking dummy for opposing offensive tackles.

  4. The family does not have the money to eat the contracts of Lovie and JA AND hire a big name (Shanahan or ???) to take charge. I personally do not fault JA for our problems.

The organization is loaded with money. Firing Lovie and spending another 5 million a year on a coach is nothing for the family. They're just extremely cheap.

  5. I wonder if all bridges have been burned with Ron Rivera or if we get a new front office and coaching staff, maybe we could get him back. Its become evident that the dominant defensives of 05 and 06 we had were the result of Rivera, not Lovie. Plus, Rivera has been doing really good with San Diego and his versatility in basically 3 different schemes (blitz heavy man-to-man 4-3 under Jimmy Johnson, Tampa 2 with us, and now the 3-4 with San Diego) could lead him to really becomming a dominate defensive coordinator.

My dream scenario for next year is:

    New Front Office

    HC: Mike Shannahan

    OC: Jeremy Bates

DC: Ron Rivera (could also make him assistant HC)

  6. Gimme a break.

Suppose you buy a hot rod car, and then put it in the garage. Every once in a while you rev the engine, and once a month you drive it a mile to get groceries. How do you know if it runs well, or can go cross country, or can win a race against some punk on a deserted street? You don't.

The pick isn't as bad as the mismanagement of the pick.

haha, yeah. The 5'6", 175 pound twig was bound for greatness... if only we gave him more carries. Im sure Dan Bazuin would be an elite pass rusher right now if we let him make the team.

I actually dont mind Garrett Wolfe, but he was never worth a 3rd round pick and will never be anything more than a special teamer and backup.

  7. The Bears eating the rest of Lovie and Jerry's contract would be like us losing a 5 dollar bill.

The Bears and the ownership are raking in money every year. Selling out every home game with tickets that are well overpriced, being in the top 5, if not higher, in NFL merchandise sales, probably paying a sweatheart deal for Soldier Field, etc.

The issue is the owners are cheap pricks. Hopefully people in ownership step up and smell the coffee and turn this team back into a football first franchise, not a cheap franchise. We will be raking in money every year, this is a given. We can bring in even more money if we focused on becoming a dominate franchise like the Colts, Patriots, etc.

  8. My guess is that he could have knocked it out in detail in about 2minutes. But, he looks to revel in the face time and was setting it up for dramatic effect. He gets a pass this week. Looking forward to the next episode.

For me, film sessions usually take an hour. On average you have 60 plays to break down. Now, that is just for the OL. If you were to analize both the line and skill players, 2 minutes is all it should take on average for a play.

Good plays are the easiest to break down cause it usually meant that most everyone did their job. Its the bad plays that keep getting played over and over in the film room.

  9. Just for the record, and this surprised the hell out of me when I heard it, but a couple weeks ago, Mike Golic said few players actually wear a cup.

I haven't worn a cup since Grade School. Some players prefer to wear cups, but most prefer not. Wearing a cup feels restricting and limiting to movement. Even in baseball, the only guy that probably still wears a cup is the cathcer.

  10. I agree to a point, Im not giving Cutler a free pass at all. But in all honestly, at some point you're gonna have to throw it up and force something to try and make something happen. Taking sacks and losing yards was not going to help us win later in the game.

  11. I'm exadurating a bit. But let's not cloud the issue with semantics. He's arguably the best in the league right now.

Not sure who you think is better, but the point it he is a pro bowl calibur player that contributes heavily to his team's success.

I'd have to say Ed Reed is the best. But otherwise, I don't disagree with you about the fact that our drafting has sucked with Angelo and Lovie.

Think about it, this is a team that has spent a 1st round pick on a guy with back issues a year ago, has used 2nd and 3rd round picks on guys who never even made it to the 53 man roster, and used plenty more on guys who should have never been picked where they were (Key example, Garrett Wolfe).

  12. Why was he longsnapping to Cutler's shoes all night long?

I'm convinced it was the cause of one of the turnovers...

He is a shell of his former self.

Its impossible to say who played the least bad last night on the OLine.

  13. I don't agree w/ this at all. I think Cutler simply is not Superman, as many here (myself included) hoped. He can not get it done by himself. Not only must we as fans realize this, but so must Cutler. To me, last night it just seemed like Cutler felt the need to win the game single handed, and essentially lost it in the process. I believe Cutler will be the franchise QB we had hoped for, but (a) we need to build around him and ( B) he needs to realize he isn't superman.

Cutler had to try and win the game single handedly, he had absolutely no help. The OLine is beyond awfull, and the receivers couldn't get open if they had all day. Running the ball was obviously not an option. The only thing you need to look at and see why we lost this game is the stat that we threw the ball over 50 times. Unless you're the freaking Patriots from 07, that simply will not cut it. There is absolutely no balance with the offense, and we don't have the talent from our receivers or the protection to be passing the ball 50+ times a game. Unfortunately, we don't have an OLine that can consistently get us even at least 3 yards per carry.

As for the picks by Cutler, the first one was god awful. And the last one was forced, but I can see why he would force it with time expiring. As for the others, Hester fell down, miscommunication between Hester and Cutler on the other one. And the one that really irks me is Kellen Davis playing like a little girl out there. Are you kidding me Kellen Davis? You're 6'7", 260+, and you get knocked out of the way like nothing? Come on now, play with some desire and fight for the ball.

Soft, that's the story of the team. It's embarassing to watch football and see only a hand full of players playing with emotion and an intent to win.

It's sickening. My only hope is that we replace the whole coaching staff and front office for next year.

  14. I am fairly sure there were 2 seconds left on the clock when it was intercepted. If he simply throws it at someone's feet, we have 1 more play.

    Peace :dabears

Once the play began, there was only 8 seconds left on the clock. He's going off of a mental clock, not looking at the scoreboard. If he threw the ball away, and time expired, he'd be getting ripped on for not trying to at least force one.

Also, dont forget, there is always a 1-2 second run off. The clock doesn't stop automatically once the ball hits the ground or sails over the endzone.

  15. Really, can you expound?

I know there will be a learning curve...but do we want to waste a good chunk of next season as well getting us ready for it?

It's an easy adjustment in the offseason, but it's tough to do mid-season. Playing on one side, you get into a groove. The main adjustment is with your stance and especially with your kick-step. At tackle, your kick step is your most important tool, and when you switch sides, you are all switched around and your kick step will be much less effective for a while. If you make this move, I'd rather see Shaffer go in at RT, let Williams work at LT during scout for a couple weeks, then bench Pace.

  16. Kreutz has arguably been our best Olineman thus far. We wont get much for him via trade, and he is still a solid player (obviously not the player he used to be). We should worry more about RG and RT (shift Williams to LT) and not adding to the holes by getting rid of Kreutz.

  17. I agree it will take time for the OL to form chemistry. I would add further that not only do they need to form chemistry with each other, but they have to get on the same page as their RB and QB, learn tendencies and such. I remember years ago listening to an OT talk about how they had to adjust to different QBs because as each QB began to feel pressure, they would do different things. One QB may simply take a few steps up in the pocket. Another is running backward. Another is scrambling to his left, while yet another to his right. Point is, the OL can't just look behind them to see what their QB is doing. They have a clock in their head, and if the QB still has the ball after X number of mental ticks, they have to begin blocking a different way.

Anyway, all this will take time. No argument there.

However, while I would agree 100% our OL will not have great chemistry on day one, I would also point out a few things which IMHO, sort of off-set.

    (1) On an individual basis, there is a significant upgrade. Pace and Omiyale may need time to develop next to each other, but that doesn't mean Pace will not be a significant upgrade on day one over St. Clair. Ditto elsewhere. Chemistry is one thing, but our OL was simply so bad last year, that our upgrades should prove better from an individual standpoint from day one. It may take time to see the great pulling blocks, for example, but should not take time for Pace to simply flatten his man.

    (2) I think Pace and Kreutz will offer a lot in helping this OL come together sooner. As much as I would like to see Williams on the left, at the same time, it would worry the hell out of me (short term) for Williams to pair w/ Omiyale, who has not played OG, and frankly has limited experience at OT. But next to Pace, you gotta think Omiyale's chances or more quickly developing and adapting are much improved. While not immediatly next to him, I also think Kreutz and Pace will greatly benefit Williams. So while the OL may need time to form chemistry, I think having a pair of pro bowlers on the OL will help push that along.

    (3) New QB, but I think stability at the center position will go a long way in more rapidly pushing that chemistry along.

I would agree our OL is likely to get better as the year goes along, but at the same time, I would argue that on day one, they will be an upgade over last season.

No argument here. However, I get the feeling some people are gonna be expecting the OLine to play awesome right away, but I highly doubt that will be the case.

  18. Man do I have an issue w/ this stuff Joyner is throwing out there.

How does he evalaute? I know he says "Point of attack", but how does he measure whether or not the OL won the battle? I believe this is referring to run plays only (run metrics), so does he credit the OL with "win" if his man doesn't make the tackle? So when our guy gets pushed back a couple yards, and the RB has to change direction, only to be tackles by someone else, does that OL still get credited w/ winning at the POA because his guy didn't make the tackle.

Sorry, but these stats simply do not seem to support what I saw, what most other fans saw, what scouts saw, and evidently by our staff's addressing OL so hard, what our staff saw.

I didn't see our OL creating holes for Forte. Just because they might standup their designated DL doesn't mean they won the battle. If they don't create space, they are not winning the battle.

I have said before that I felt Garza was a better run blocker than pass protector. Further, I said Tait was as well, and our run game stats to the right side of the bear that out. At the same time, stating that Garza was among the league best OGs just seems like a bit of a stretch, to say the least.

I agree, there really is no metric for this stuff, you gotta go with good scouting IMO.

Does this take into account different schemes? Does it adjust to specific types of blocks? It seems very flawed to say the least.

My concern with the OLine this year is that we will have 3 or possibly even 4 new starts on the line (I don't care what the stats say, it should be a tight competition between Garza, Shaffer, Beekman, and Buenning for the RG spot). When you adjust the line that much, with a completely new left side, its gonna take a while before the whole line has the scheme down and are all on the same page.
