  1. exactly. We keep spots on the team for special teamers. Also, there's no need for two FB's. If we draft Forte, he could play a little FB if McKie gets injured... Plus, FB is not that hard of a position to find a decent replacement for McKie if he gets injured. You can find decent guys off of the street, or through signing someone off of another teams practice squad.

Isnt JD Runnels still on the roster? I thought he was IR'd last year.

  2. I swear it's the coaches... Running Wolfe up the middle on our own goal line is just silly.

That drove me freaking nuts. Running wolfe up the middle with a very shitty OL against 2 of the best run stuffing DTs in the league inside our own 5 yard line? how freakin retarded is that. I think if used properly, Wolfe can be a very valuable contributor but as long as Turner keeps on insisting on running him up the middle like that, I have serious doubt he'll be used correctly.

But I guess there is hope. Wolfe did have some nice screens and catches out of the backfield at the end of the season.

  3. Someone who knows the system better than I can chime in also...but I think it's also the case that trading Benson would render the Bears a big cap hit this season as well.

I think the cap related reality is that Benson gets one last chance. Cutting him costs the Bears cap space, trading him costs the Bears cap space. Neither one is a smart option with how the league's cap is built.

IIRC, there would be about a $1.75M cap hit if Benson is cut/traded this year.

  4. This is why I love the pre-draft: Forte's fast, a great blocker, a great receiver, and a "high character guy." I'd be thrilled if we took him in round 2. Yet, I'd never heard of him before January.

I was listening to an interview of him on Sirius a couple days ago. He sounds like a real quality character guy. I'd love to have him on the Bears

  5. They're also talking with Gholston. I'm sure the other Long will be involved at some point too. Looks like they are just going to see who they can sign the easiest since there is not real clear cut #1 guy out there.

Frankly, I dont see how they dont go Jake Long but that's just my opinion.

  6. Regardless of how we don't get Mendnehall (as I feel we will be long gone before we pick...), there does seem to be some quailty out there. I'm not well versed on enough of those guys other than Jones and Stewart. I'm a bit weary of Jones... I like Stewart despite the injury. I really don't know enough about the other guys to really have an educated opinion. Their highlights look good for sure. And I do tend to agree that having a total speedster would be nice.

Do you know if Johnson can handle an NFL beating?

I do. and if you question if Johson can, you'd have to question if Charles can. they are the same size. And Felix is within 5-10 pounds of both of them

One thing I noticed is that ECU runs a more tradition offense....at least it looked like form the highlights. Most of the other schools with top backs run some sort of spread. the ECU offense looked pretty similar to what the Bears run from what I saw. And with Johnson, I love how he doesnt show boat and 'acts like he's been there' when he scores.

the other guy I really like is Forte. He does a LOT of things really well and is probably the most complete back available.

    my top 3 are

    CJ

    Forte

    Charles

If we end up with any of them, I'll be happy.

  7. he also drops more balls than a drunk hooker. I wouldnt be too upset if JA takes him but he has to get a handle on his fumbling issue.

But I'd go for Chris Johnson instead. They're the same size but CJ is faster and runs with more authority.

  8. Is our 2nd rounder too high for these guys? I mainly point that out because Johnson, Forte, and Charles could easily be around in round 3, where the Bears have the 9th pick.

Swapping picks with San Fran all of a sudden seems incredibly vauluable.

hmmm....no, the only one that has a chance of being there in the 3rd is Forte.

  9. my preferences are for a RB after taking OL in round 1 are..

    Chris Johnson

This guy has Hester/Deon speed and although he's only 200#, he does not shy away from lowering his head. He runs with much more power than you'd think from a speed demon like him. He can make an immediate impact in the passing game on 3rd downs and as a change of pace to Benson.

    Forte

Does a LOT of things well.....run, catch and block. Plus he's not slow as he ran a sub-4.5. over 2K yards and over 20 TDs last year. He the best blocker in pass protection of the 3.

    Charles

Home run threat but seems to shy away from contact. The less physical of the 3 but I wouldnt be upset if JA took him in the 2nd.

Charles and Johnson are almost the exact same size except Johnson is faster and more physical from what I've seen.

  10. Imagine a WR (likely not one of the bigger WR) going up and catching the ball. Now imagine a safety literally catching the WR, not allowing him to hit the ground, and carrying him out of bounds.

Not likely to happens w/ most WRs, but I think where you could see it is w/ some of the smaller WRs. Think about Jackson (in the draft) who I read ways around 165 lbs. That would not be so difficult for a 220 lb DB or even a 240 lb LB to catch him in the air, and essentially carry him a couple yards out of bounds.

By and large, I do not think we will see this too often. Today, WRs are simply bigger and stronger, and would be far more difficult to "carry".

On the other hand, if the WR is looking to make a play near the sideline, I can see the DB not even trying to go up for the ball w/ the WR, but simply planting underneath him and driving him out of bounds.

That would be funny as hell. :cheers

  11. eh, we already have a guy who can't run inside the tackles but can catch in Wolfe. That's pretty much what Johnson is, except more athletic, bigger, and better.

Jamaal Charles, maybe, but he can't block and doesn't know how to hold onto the ball.

Charles is LESS physical than Johnson. From what I've seen Johnson can run inside. despite his size, he runs with power and is not afraid of contact.

  12. I'm with you on this one Bearsox. Take Emmitt Smith for instance, even though he was a first RD pick, he didn't have the tools as the top RB's did (size, speed) he played with a big heart and good vision. He also played with one of the biggest and most dominant offensive lines. If he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Bucs, he would of been considered a bust averaging 3 yds/carry (Reggie Cobb), but he is considered one of the greatest up there with Walter.

I'd love to have Mendenhall. I'd buy his jerseys, autographs, and stalk him at Bourbonnais. But the best interest for the Bears is to shore up the O-line. It won't be long and Kreutz and Tait will be joining Brown/Miller in the retirement home. Benson looked good two years ago when the line was still decent. Last year he got blasted and deservingly so, but the hole offense looked like crap also.

so all the Bears need to do is put together one of the best OL of the past 20 years and Benson will be all set. Sounds like a plan to me.

There were plenty of decently prices OL FA available. JA didnt bite. Mo Williams and Jake Scott for example. Both were VERY resonable deals for pretty good OL and would have not broken the bank for the Bears.

Though, I wouldnt be upset with Mendenhall, I want Williams, Clady or even Albert with the #14 and get a playmaker at RB in the 2nd.
