Just because no charges were filed does not mean he's innocent. I doubt he's just been a victim of bad luck on two separate occasions, one with his fiance who apparently was seen with bruises on her arms and neck and the other being the girl he had sex with while she was drunk and impaired. The 49'ers obviously felt like there was enough there that they didn't want him to be apart of the team anymore. There is no reason why the Bears needed to take this risk. He's not a difference maker and won't be on the team when they're good. He's not worth the risk. If he has one more miss-step, it would be a huge embarrassment for the Bears organization and especially the new GM.

I don't mind the low key profile in free agency. I've been on record saying that I prefer that model. My problem is with the additions they have made, specifically Rolle and McDonald. By the time the Bears are good again these guys aren't going to be here. Rolle at least doesn't have the off-the-field past like McDonald does, so I can at least try to rationalize that one. It's the hypocrisy of them getting rid of Marshall for being a distraction and then turning around to sign somebody who was cut by his own team for getting arrested 3 different times for domestic violence cases. That's B.S.

Moronic signing. This off-season makes no sense at all. The draft better make up for it. My confidence in Ryan Pace has gone down quite a bit since day 1. He's acting as if this team is better than they are when you look at these signings. A lot of veteran signings and 1 year deals. The explanation behind the signing makes it even worse. Pace talked to his mom and dad? WHAT?? How does that make a difference? Of course they are going to protect their son. How about talk to the victim, or the police for that matter? Awful.

Yeah the Bears now suddenly have a cluster of LB'ers to use since they've made the shift to a 3-4. You've got Young, Allen, Houston, McPhee, McClellin, Bostic, Jones, Bass, Washington (?) Am I missing somebody? McClellin, Bostic, Jones are probably your ILB in a 3-4. The rest are OLB'ers with guys like Allen and Houston sort of there because they don't fit anywhere else. McPhee is still somewhat of an unknown. I'd feel better if the Bears drafted an OLB like Fowler or Beasley to feel more secure at that position. McPhee might be your 5 technique DE before it's all said and done. Not sure what the Bears plans are for him.

Old and on the decline. No thanks.

There's your slot guy.

Ugh... That's not what I wanted to hear. Now we're signing a 32 year old safety? Wtf is going on?
-
Why is Ozzie Newsome getting rid of Ngata? Is there something going on there that we don't know about?
-
Wtf? Why are we throwing money at a 32 year old safety? Idiotic. Makes no sense.

Beasley and Fowler are probably my top two guys. Beasley's arms are gigantic. Fowler is damn near perfect size for a LB.
-
What did Fowler run? He's been my guy.

Admittedly I'm not much of a college sports fan, so I don't watch a lot of these guys play every Saturday. From what I've read about Fowler, a lot of his negatives are coachable. He has the skill set to be a force. I trust these Bears coaches now for the first time in a long time, especially Fangio. If he likes Fowler, I'm all for it. The real target should be Gregory IMO, but he is probably long gone before #7.

I like Fowler because he's big and athletic compared to Ray, who's smaller and more compact. I like arm length and Fowler certainly has that.

With new coaching staff in Place, Briggs wants back
Bears4Ever_34 replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
No way. Lance checked out midway through last season, if not all of it. Plus he's old, slow, and often injured these days, on top of also not being that great at football anymore. -
Fangio runs a hybrid scheme, but a base 3-4. I suspect that will remain here. I don't know why it wouldn't. He's a Dom Capers disciple.

Spiegs acted like he wanted to come to blows with Bernstein yesterday talking about Marshall. It was weird. He called Dan out and said the way he treated him and Mannelly was unprofessional and it pissed him off to the point where he said his report was complete BS. Dan continued to be his douchey self and said he was sticking by his report (even though he clearly back tracked) and that he was not going to change the way he treats people. For more context about what caused this, Bernstein went on the other day during transition and joined in the conversation about Marshall. Dan reiterated that the Marshall decision had already been made. He's out. Pat couldn't believe it. He said that when he was there, Marshall wasn't bad in the lockeroom. When Matt and Pat even entertained the idea that Marshall could be back and that they would want him back, Bernstein quipped, "Agree with me and you'll look smart", That didn't sit well with either of them, and Matt went on yesterday's show to call out Bernstein for the back tracking and the arrogant, condescending attitude with which he treats people. Of course Bernstein didn't back off. He handled the situation well from an emotional stand point, but never once said he was sorry or any of that. Just business as usual. I've listened to the show pretty consistently for about 4-5 years now. I've never seen it get to that point before.

Finally being run like a professional NFL team.

I hope he doesn't leave after a year, assuming the offense is worth a crap. That's my only concern. Could be why Fox was hesitant at first.

Bye Bye Marshall

Dan Durkin / Brad Biggs Indicate Ratfliff Might be Gone
Bears4Ever_34 replied to DABEARSDABOMB's topic in Bearstalk
Ratliff looked like a killer but talked like a gentle giant. I guess I shouldn't be surprised if he was in the middle of some altercation, but I kind of am. -
Hard to see how he would need to interview given he's been on Fox's staff the past 4 years. He's got to be getting the job. After Shanahan, there really aren't any other candidates out there that excited me. Would have been nice to see Fox reach out to a college guy, possibly from Oregon and go that route.

I am more excited about this hire than John Fox.

Is this the guy that always gets fined for illegal hits as often as Brandon Merriwether?

Rumors of Charlie Weis being spotted at Halas Hall
Bears4Ever_34 replied to lemonej's topic in Bearstalk
This guy is one of the most disliked coaches in sports. Hard to imagine him having another job in the NFL as an OC. He never lasts more than a year. Only person that kept him under control was Belichick. -
Bears request an interview with Vic Fangio DC of the 49ers
Bears4Ever_34 replied to 'TD''s topic in Bearstalk
The Bears might not win a bidding war with Snyder for Fangio, but if job security is an emphasis, then he can't take the Washington job. There is a more than good chance Jay Gruden gets fired next year so he could be looking for another job 12 months from now.
