He should been drafted in the 12th round of the NFL draft (if there was one)
-
Depending whether or not we will have a running back to replace Cedric this year I think its his final chance to prove something to the organization.
i agree and sadly if we dont get any o line help then its gonna be tough for him to prove anything
-
he got fat last offseason. that has nothing to do with our oline. that has to do with heart
even if he didnt pack on a few pounds the guy still needs holes to run through.
-
"Does he love playing the game of football"
Thats the problem.
love it or not hes still playing it and if he doesnt get an o line to open up some holes then hes not gonna be good.
-
That he's no longer strong at that or that the Bears had a wasteland from Tackle to Tackle last season?
the later of the 2, his strength is running between the tackles, if the tackles arent making holes for him to run through then his strength is wasted. Its like baseball you dont put a fly ball pitcher in small ball parks (ugh linebrink is gonna get rocked this year i just know it) its wasting his strength.

I've neve put to much faith in these things, but damn they seemed to hit the nail on the head. Particularly when they say, "Has had some off-the-field issues. Does he love playing the game of football? Will he work hard enough at it in the NFL?" and also, "there are some lingering concerns about his character, attitude and speed that make him a potential disappointment at the next level."
Wow. I hope Angelo starts reading these things. Here's the full pre-draft evaluation from espn.com:
Strengths: Is at his best running between the tackles. Has decent quickness and good initial burst. Has patience and vision. Hits the hole hard when he sees it open up. Will do a good job of planting and driving quickly in order to hit the cutback lane. Runs with good balance and body control. Runs with leverage, will lower his shoulder and does a very good job of driving his legs after initial contact. He is a powerful inside runner with enough quickness and burst to get through the hole and to bounce runs to the outside. Is a load to bring down with a head of steam in space. Has adequate speed for his size but is not a burner. He is an adequate blocker in the passing game. Shows decent awareness and has good size and power at the POA to pick up the blitz. His hands are smooth and he has developed into a reliable short-yardage receiver. A powerful back who has been a workhorse at the college level.
Weaknesses: Has some burst to the second level but lacks the acceleration to run away from defenders in the open field. Lacks the natural speed to consistently turn the corner on the NFL level. Has reliable hands but isn't a matchup threat as a route runner and has some limitations in that area. No major injuries but has been nicked a lot throughout his career and also missed the '03 Holiday Bowl due to a pinched nerve in his neck. Has a lot of mileage on his legs 561 carries his last two years. Has had some off-the-field issues. Does he love playing the game of football? Will he work hard enough at it in the NFL?
Overall: Benson was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 12th round out of high school and spent two summers playing baseball in their farm system before deciding to concentrate fully on his football career. He had an excellent second-half of a season as a junior in 2003, rushing for 1,360 yards on 258 carries with 21 rushing touchdowns. Benson was expected to leave early but chose to return for his senior season in 2004. As a senior in 2004, Benson rushed for 1,764 yards and 19 touchdowns on 303 carries. Benson is a workhorse. He has size, power, quickness and enough speed to carry the load as a starting running back in the NFL. In that regard, he reminds us somewhat of Stephen Davis (Panthers). If used properly in a power running attack Benson can be a difference maker as a load-carrying NFL running back. Overall, Benson is certain to be a top-10 pick. However, there are some lingering concerns about his character, attitude and speed that make him a potential disappointment at the next level. In our opinion, Benson is the third-best NFL prospect of the top-3 backs in the 2005 draft class.
Thats the problem right there.

cant sleep, drunk, and bored so why not....
1st Round: Jeff Otah OT ( really think about mendy or stewart here
2nd Round: Dre MOore DT Maryland
3rd Round: Tom Zbikowski Safety ND I hope he falls to the 3rd round, i doubt it but eh whatever..
3rd Round: Jordy Nelson WR K State
4th Round: Franklin Dunbar OT Middle Tennessee St.
5th Round: DEnnis Dixon QB Oregon is he there in the 5th??

possibly lose a step??? wow, I dont like the sounds of that at all. Seriously if we are sticking with orton or grossman as our starting QB then we need a ground game. After hearing this i really hope Mendenhall is there at 14 and we take him. if hes not id draft an OT at 14 the put together a package of our extra 3rd rounder + future picks to get a 1st rounder and get jonathon stewart. Free agency is rather thin too when youre looking for a feature back. The biggest names out there are Jamal Lewis (who knows what jamal lewis we get, didnt he suck for a few years after that big season he had), Michael Turner (would he be able to carry the load) Julius Jones(maybe???) and of course Noah Herron (lol im a big Northwestern football fan).

If we sign all of Briggs, Berrian, Harris, and Ayanbadejo... you can kiss any wild dreams about Faneca away.
I dont see why Angelo would release Miller and cut ties with Brown if he has no intention on signing a big name OL. I'm almost positive we grab a FA OG and go OT first round to fill those holes.
...wow i just looked at guard depth in the draft and wow its basically non existent when it comes to players who can step in from day 1.
whats the latest on Lilja, floyd Womack, and Jake SCott. after faneca they seem to be the best options
-
If we pick up Faneca then id def go for Mendy or Stewart in the first round. Bensons a free agent after this year anyway right? I think we have plenty of room financially to have benson stick around for a year till his contract is up. I'd personally take Stewart over Mendy. They are both outrageously huge guys and I seen a piece on Stewart and he seems to have a tremendous work ethic. Both these kids are gonna be studs in this league and IMO gonna be x times better then benson. If Stewart is there and the bears have signed Faneca then they need to seriously take a long hard look at him and snatch him up. Stewart + faneca= playoffs imo
-
if flacco is there in the 2nd round the bears seriously need to jump all over him. after watching this kid and hearing about him from all these experts i think the kids gonna be a stud.....only way i dont take him in the 2nd if hes there is if somehow matt ryan falls to us or we trade up for him
-
Im currently watching the college skills competition and my goodness Joe Flacco is impressive. If hes available in the 3rd round I take him, maybe even in the 2nd. IMO hes gonna be an absolute stud in the NFL.

nobody mentioned the fridges touchdown in the super bowl thats a surprise...me being about the size of the fridge (well not really but its close lol) that has got to be mine....i remember getting chills during that AZ game so thats a close #2.

5-140 Jeremy Leman LB, Illinois
I would love to see this happen, i dont really see him slipping this far though. Ive watched every illini game this season and this kids gonna be a stud, at the very least i see him being as good as hunter...if he can make the transition from mlb to outside smoothly i can see him taking jamars starting spot within a year....like his website says, hes the best linebacker youve never heard of, though i think after the USC game when he beasts his stocks gonna rise a ton.

Heres just a thought....The Pats dont need there high first round draft pick and with there line backers getting up there in age would they trade us there 1st round pick for Briggs (sign and trade)....before you guys flame out lets say this does happen and we get say the 2nd overall pick and dorsey went first....who do you take???
ESPN's pre-draft grade on Cedric

ugh...not even Darren Mcfadden would look good on a team that cant block....the only way i even think about going RB in the first is if we pick up an OT or 2 in free agency and even then id rather go WR 1st pick before RB.
