Okay, I am going to say upfront. This is from PFT, but while there are some haters out there, PFT is a pretty good source for rumors, and an excellent source (IMHO) for number crunching and legal analysis. Anyway, here is their list for all teams cap space. We are shown to have about $20m in cap space, which jives w/ LT2, but does not reflect the recent moves, so I would put another $10m in space on top of that. Three teams (Carolina, Wash and Indy) are over the cap and will have to restructure and/or make cuts just to be under, much less make moves.

Here is the projected Cap spaces from Askthecommish.com: http://www.askthecommish.com/salarycap/numbers.asp

They have the Bears with $19.8 available from mid-December. Also, what I like about their chart is it lists the number of players the team has signed, which is actually a pretty significant factor.

It looks like the numbers you posted are fairly accurate.

I have a hard time believing San Diego is that far under. That is sick if true.

I don't want to burst anyone's bubble or anything, but with the cap increases over the past few years, the cap really doesn't mean much in regards to signing players. At this point, it has more to do with how much money teams have to ACTUALLY spend on the players depending on their cash flow.

Some teams are even using the LTBE cap forwarding device as a way to get to the league minimum cap.

So, in regards to the Bears, they have a set budget of how much they can spend this year and THAT is what will dictate how much they do in free agency - not how much cap space they have.

THANK YOU!

That is what I have been saying too. I have pointed out that would could fit under our cap new deals for Briggs, Berrian, Harris and even Faneca, but it would cost an obscene amount of bonus dollars up front that I doubt any (except maybe Snyder) would fork over. I mean, how many teams shell out $80m or so in bonus dollars in one offseason?

I would make the point though that the cap does still matter, just not as much. There are several teams that, even w/ the increased cap number, are still over the cap. These teams need to make moves just to get under the cap, and are less likely to be players in FA. Beyond them, there is a group of teams that have a smaller amount of space, and more holes to fill, and thus too will be less likely to be players for the bigger name FAs.

W/ that said, there are a lot of teams w/ a ton of cap space, and I agree, cap space will not be the issue nearly so much as setting a budget for actual dollars spent.
