A new 30-second spot on Barack Obama's Web site is urging voters to "talk to your boss" or professor and then take the day off from work or school to volunteer for his campaign on Election Day.

 

The "Take the Day" campaign suggests voters sign up to go to battleground states or work in phone banks closer to home on Nov. 4, when they would normally be at work or in class.

 

"We can't win this election unless every Obama supporter gets out and votes on November 4th. To do that, we need a massive team of volunteers helping us. Can you take next Tuesday off from work, join the final push, and make sure that everyone who supports Barack turns out to vote?" asks the Web page hosting the ad.

 

On the trail, Obama has been encouraging voters to go to the polls for early voting, and reports from several states are that Democrats are going into the voting booths in larger numbers than Republicans.

 

John McCain's campaign, though, scolded Obama for encouraging voters to skip work on his behalf.

 

"Apparently Barack Obama believes that you can't 'make history' by doing your job, or going to school, or caring for your kids. Apparently Barack Obama thinks the only way Americans can make history is by voting, and working, for Barack Obama," McCain spokesman Michael Goldfarb said in a statement to FOXNews.com. "It's the arrogance of a man who believes Americans either support his candidacy or cling bitterly to guns and religion out of fear and xenophobia."

 

This is just Brutal how far he is willing to go to sink us!!

There's no harm... He's not asking citizens to call in sick. If people want to use their vacations days for whatever they like, it's all fine by me. It's still a free country so far!

Most of whom are already unemployed or students (or both). And the students will probably get extra credit — or just an automatic A — if they tell their liberal professors that they were out volunteering for the Obama campaign.

 

Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if most of them cancelled classes anyhow.

 

Me? I’ll go to the polls and vote — and then I’ll go do something infinitely more important and valuable for our country and our economy. I’ll go to work.

Why would Obama supporters want to work when they think they should have everything handed to them?

I know what the perception is, but as I live in Los Angeles, this and most the state are quite left leaning... I'm surrounded by hard working people in the entertainment field that just so happen to support Obama, which I'm sure comes to no shock. These folks are not unemployed (yet...there is a potential actors strike looming) nor are students. Say what you want about the actors that make mega-millions...but the folks behind the scenes toil away for hours and hours and many don't make that much money. Yet, they do work their tails off as any other worker in any other field would.

 

So, I know there appears to be joke that people voting for Obama don't work...in fact, people from ALL parties including Dem's, Rep's, Lib's, Green's and even Peace & Freedom work. At least those who haven't lost their jobs due to this economy that the big 2 parties brought on us all... Both are to blame...

But, let's be honest...not all Obama supporters are leeching socialists as you like believing. Kind of like not all Rep's are imperialist facists...

 

I'm supporting Obama this time around, and I'm about as far from a socialist as you can get. Yep, he has socialist tendencies, but so does McCain... It's just that I feel Obama will rid us of less freedoms than McCain... Not to mention, his running mate isn't a buffoon.

I'm certainly not a socialist either. But I do believe and stand by everything I've posted here which clearly has nothing to do with supporting socialism. And as far as I'm concerned, we all need to stick our necks out these days or we'll end up with 4 more years of the same old same old that got us where we find ourselves today.

 

Note that not one of these guys talks up McCain. They rip on me or call Obama names. This thread (or another like it) is a low water mark for them, calling me a crack head or some such. I'm the father of a great 10 year old boy and I live in a nice house in the Chicago suburbs. I've worked for the same company now for nearly twenty years and I've made a nice living doing so. I pay my taxes, vote and work for political candidates I believe in. I've voted for Republicans in my life on a number of occasions. None of this sits well with their right wing smear of who I am or what I stand for.

 

See, it's really easy to rip something down. Harder to build. But it can be fun and/or funny. I've tried humor here any number of times, basically to get this topic some traffic. I dish it out and I'm OK with taking it. I'm glad there are some here who can see the difference between the slime McCain's campaign is putting out and reality. Nobody on McCain's bus really believes Obama is a terrorist or a commie. They're just giving the dopes, the racist and the Fox News viewers some red meat. That's all. I understand that. And it seems it won't work this time. I pray for this country that is doesn't.

 

4 years ago I knew we were on the wrong path. I knew electing Bush again was going to continue that spiral. I never saw this coming, however. I didn't think his leadership or lack thereof could take us this deep into the shit. I know now, that we need energetic leaders, competent people in government, and new ideas. I see none of that from McCain.

 

So, gents, whack away at me if you need to. Maybe it's the only way you can deal with the realities and truths I bring up here. No problem. But understand this... your ideas about who I am are way off base. I don't think any less of you; I just think your ideas for our future are dangerous. We've tried your program and we've seen the results. Two Republican Presidents in a row have led us into recessions. So, please, pretty please with sugar on top, shut the f*ck up and stand in the corner. The adults have work to do to save this country from you and people like you. There are lots of good folks out there like me working hard every day to make sure your discredited political philosophy hits the dustbin of history. I hope you appreciate our efforts when in 4 years from now, things are a lot sunnier. You can thank me then.

Way to spout the right wing talking points. Hey, here's something for you to consider...

 

Maybe, just maybe, Obama realizes that the turnout on election day is going to be massive. Maybe he realizes that some folks, particularly in poorer areas where they don't have the best or most available polling equipment, may need to wait in LONG lines to register their votes. Maybe, just maybe, he's looking ahead and thinking this might cause some a lot of discomfort with their employers and they'd be better off if they didn't have to worry about it while standing in these long lines.

 

I recall video from the poorer areas of Cleveland in the last election where people were waiting in 2 mile long lines to go vote. I'd say that would be discouraging. I'd say some of those folks would miss a lot more of work than they planned, no?

 

Or are you trying to play the old "Shiftless" card on Obama supporters? Are we all just lazy? Why do you think that way?
