Why would you guys want someone to beat up one our WR's. If you haven't noticed or heard, Knox and Iglesias have been with the 3rd string for the most part this whole summer so far. Therefore, Rashied Davis is going to play a solid if not big role on this team this year. He was put in the slot in 2006 and had a good year and was slowly taken out of that role in the following years thus having s*** seasons.

Give the guy a break, and make up your minds as to what you want- a WR on "your" team getting the s*** kicked out of him, or winning football games. I'll take the latter.

I just want someone to slap him upside the head and teach him how to catch.

Yeah, some scuffles are going to happen at camp. Rashied Davis and Tru McBride got into it, too, not just Bennett and Bowman. I wouldn't tend to worry about it unless somebody really gets hurt or one guy keeps starting fights.

By way of a for instance, Cedric Benson has gotten into not one but TWO fights in the Bengals' camp. He got into it with Dhani Jones and with Keith Rivers. From the photos I saw, it looked like Benson got knocked flat both times.

Hopefully Dhani's camera crew got it on tape...

When he's in his environment (in the slot) he's a pretty solid WR.

Davis might be a hard worker and nice guy, but that dude dropped WAY too many passes last season to not understand why people want to beat some "stick-em" into him.

Well hey Madlith, that statement came from the guy above who believes Cedric Benson had a good year for the Bengals...

Why don't you open your eyes? Please tell me where I said Benson had a good year.

Yeah, he dropped them when he wasn't in the slot. He made big catches in 2006 for us (for instance, the one down the team vs Tampa to set up Gould in OT which clinched up homefield).

Brian, not to add fuel to the fire, but that was 2006. There were a lot of good things then that aren't happening now in 2009.

I personally do not feel that this team can RELY on Davis to be sure handed. He needs to prove it. And I don't want to hinder development of some real potential stars like Knox, et al, that we keep forcing Davis on the field because he made some grabs in '06.

But why fix something that isn't broke? He was pretty damn reliable in the slot. IMO, give him another shot there.

what the hell does it matter what position he plays? You drop 3rd down balls, thats the story....

And kicking the shit out of a guy in camp doesnt literraly beating him up, are u familiar with sarcasm? Its seems everyone else got it...

He needs to step up no matter where the Bears put him. I think it'll be tough for him to make this team this year. I don't know what kind of camp he's having thus far but with the idea to have Hester on the field and them move a TE outside and Hester inside, the slot is Hester's on those plays. Someone bigger and with better hands will be on the outside on the other side and we have two rookies who will definitely make this team. He'll either make the squad or not based on how good he looks in preseason games. If he continues to drop the ball, he's gone. But with Cutler throwing a nicer ball, he may improve and we'll all be back on his bandwagon. Hell if I know.

I'm sorry, but dropping easy catches is simply not "reliable".

He had his shot last year, time to give a different guy a shot. Then go back to him and see if he has something to offer if that doesn't work.

Here is how I see it w/ Davis.

One. His key asset has always been special teams, and that is where he again will have his greatest opportunity/contribution.

Two. In the past, he helped the team in the slot. As a starter, he utterly failed, but that doesn't mean he can't help the team out of the slot again. But different from the past, he has to fight for even that level of playing time. If any of our young WRs look capable of playing the slot, Davis takes a back seat and becomes strictly a special teams player. But he is decent insurance if our young WRs are not ready to play.

Simply put, Davis is in the position he should be. He is a special teams specialist, and WR depth. If our youth are not ready, Davis may have a temporary role on the offense, but only if they are not ready. That is the role of depth chart guys.

That works for me!

I think depth for him is his key spot. And a little fear to keep his job can't hurt!

It really took nfo to help you guys with that? All I said was he is a pretty reliable WR in the slot. Terra- don't say it doesn't matter where he plays as a WR, because some WR's are more comfortable in a certain spot. Apparently, you aren't too familiar with football. It's like saying- Urlacher had to play OLB, he'd still have to play awesome. Well no, that's a totally different spot.

I think you're not getting the full picture of what I'm agreeing with. You kept stating how reliable you thought the guy was. I disagree. I question his reliability completely. When balls hit him square in the hands and he drops easy 1st downs and TD's, that is simply not reliable no mattrer how you slice it. Nfo pointed out that Davis can be basically a great depth guy, and I agreed. but I do not want him blessed as our starter, thinking he's got great hands, over giving some of the other younger talet a shot.

Hey, I'm not saying cut the guy. I just feel he needs to be knocked down a notch to back-up and let him earn his way back up.
