  1. Since I'm talking about the White Sox right now I'll use a comparison...Juan Pierre. Juan Pierre was really good at 1 thing...stealing bases. But once he lost a step, everything else in his game fell apart. Randy Moss does one thing well...running a fly pattern where he outruns everyone else. If he can't outrun everyone else, if all he's done is lose 1 step on the CB, then he goes from incredible to nearly useless. He may still have gifted physical talents compared to most receivers, but given that he is only really effective running one single type of route, you can't rely on those talents to keep him a great WR if he gets caught on the fly pattern.
  2. Brad Biggs speculates that the Bears are unlikely to pursue him.
  3. It's amazing how a guy can do the exact opposite of his reputation and still the reputation hangs over him. Martz is long pass happy...but he's put in a situation where if he tries more down the field throws Cutler will be killed. So, while the season is still young, he totally about-faces, puts in more tight ends, cuts back on receivers and down the field throws to max protect, and uses Forte more in both the running game and the passing game. Clearly that's just Martz being stubborn and wanting to move the ball forwards rather than backwards. If he had less power then we'd finally get what we want....a Cutler Corpse! Seriously, ragging on him for Aromashodou after multiple teams have found him to be a guy with little to no work ethic who has the ability to be tall but very little else? Drafting a late round QB when the backup QB this year is a restricted FA and no one knows what the rules in that will be? That's all you've got? GMAB.
  4. Apparently, since the Bears practice at Olivet Nazarine University, if the Lockout starts leading to a delay in the start of the season/end of training camp, the Bears may be forced to either break camp early or else find a fully new camp location. The Fall semester starts August 27th.
  5. One thing I really want to see at some point is this type of penalty (call or no call) become reviewable.
  6. I do like the adding the "Serious" connotation to the QB head shot rule. That was probably the part of the headshot rule that everyone had the worst problem with.
  7. There are a couple of now-approved rules changes for the NFL next year, if that happens. There's also supposedly potential for loss of draft picks if a team is a repeat offender.
  8. Link. Longer article at link.
  9. A few years ago I tried to enforce rules regarding what went in each forum and it angered pretty much everyone here, so I stopped and just turned this into "anything tangentially related to NFL football that people want to talk about".
  10. If you think Carimi is a mid-first-round talent, and Tice clearly wanted the guy, then you do that sort of overpay to keep him away from the team you think will steal him. If the Seahawks had taken him after the Bears blew the deal, then everyone should be furious.
  11. Chargers are after Steve Smith.
  12. No one said conspiracies don't exist. In this case however, there is no conspiracy. These people are simply wrong on their numbers. Give you an example. The post you're trying to cite referred to melted steel. Basic metallurgy tells us though that steel need not melt in order to lose its strength...just picture a classic blacksmith forging something...he never melts the steel, he heats it up to the point it's hot and able to be molded plastically by hammering on it, but doesn't come anywhere near the melting point of the metal. Steel loses its strength rapidly when you get above a thousand degrees but doesn't melt until you get above 2000.
  13. The odds of either of those QB's becoming Star's is pretty low...and the odds of it happening for both are ridiculously low.
  14. Really, no, there were no explosions before the towers were hit, this is not a giant government conspiracy, no.
  15. I'd say the brain damage probably was a big part of the reason why he committed suicide.
  16. This is worse than attempted rape?
  17. Do y'all really think the Bears have "Multiple positions of need" at least compared to last offseason? If the Bears targeted a top tier WR and some depth at CF and G, they'd be in really good shape. They need, IMO, 1 starting caliber player.
  18. After this draft, they have to at least target depth at the WR spot. That might be available via trade or FA, don't know. I wouldn't give up next year's first round pick for a player with Sidney Rice's injury history, but I would give up a 2nd round pick for it.
  19. That's the important point that no one else has really said as far as I can see...Hanie's contract status is up in the air with the CBA. It's entirely possible that things work out such that Cutler is the only QB the Bears have under contract at the start of whatever training camp there is. This pick makes 100% certain that the Bears have a warm body as their backup QB.
  20. If the Cardinals had taken a rookie QB, they may as well have figured on trading away Fitzgerald, because it makes no sense to hold onto Fitz while they spend 2 years developing one of these raw rookies. They've got to go for a veteran.
