The organization is paying (dearly for Smith actually...), but the fact is they have made poor decisions over and over again on who and what they are paying. I suppose it's better than the cheapness before... But if we're still here sans SB trophy and discussing the possibility that the rest of the league is laughing at this franchise, is it truly any better? Or have we just gone from one way of being mediocre to another?

No doubt the grass is always greener to an extent. I'm not sure everyone is crying for Jerry Jones. In fact, I think more people bring up teams like the Colts, Steelers, and Pats moes than the Cowboys or Redskins. People just want success. When you're not getting it, virtually ANY alternative appears better than the status quo. At least there is a gillmer of hope vs nothing. Would you rather swing hard and miss or attempt to bunt...and still miss?

Is that what this has come down to? It's just a sad testament...

http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/colu...&id=4827883 Dammit if it doesn't look like Willie, Otis and Mike couldn't play a down or 2 right now! And I love Jimmy Mac on the "Rascal" instead of the Honda Scooter!

Cutler meeting with offensive coordinator candidates Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 15, 2010 11:15 AM ET With Pete Carroll involved in G.M. interviews, it's fair to wonder if he's the one voice that matters in Seattle. A similar dynamic may be playing out in Chicago, but the voice belongs to a player. Bears G.M. Jerry Angelo confirmed that Jay Cutler is a key part of the interview process as the Bears search for an offensive coordinator. "We've involved Jay, and we'd like to have him meet with [all] the candidates," Angelo said. "He understands the whole process, and he knows we want him involved. This is not the first time we've involved a player. This isn't new to us." Cutler flew in town to meet with Ken Zampese and is expected to offer his thoughts on other candidates. Cutler was reportedly disappointed the team couldn't snare his old coach Jeremy Bates. We've got mixed feelings here. The ability to work with Cutler and play to his strengths is one of the biggest components of the Bears job. But if Cutler truly has sway in who gets the gig, it sounds like the inmates are running the asylum

Taking too much time is a sign of weakness and indecision. One must not rush into things, but nor should one sit on the fence until his/her legs go numb...

I could not agree more...

Blood is thicker than water... His son is under the heat with USC now. I'd think he'd rather help him out.

The Bus says Cowher waiting on NYG job...

A Super Bowl title only buys you two years off the hot seat these days Not if you're in Chicago! You get at least 4 more years! ...and you don't even need to win it! -

MORE: Bettis: Cowher is waiting for Giants job Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 14, 2010 6:37 PM ET Another spin of the coaching carousel will come and go without Bill Cowher returning to the NFL. Jerome Bettis has an idea where "The Chin" would like to jump back on. "[The Giants are] the team that he really coveted," Bettis said on Sirius XM's Mad Dog Radio with Chris Russo Thursday. "This is where he always wanted to be. The Mara family, he's been very close to them. . . . He's known them very well and was on the inside track -- before the Giants won the Super Bowl -- for that job. And I think he's holding out for that opportunity if it presents itself." Bettis probably annoyed a few folks with that quote: The Giants, Cowher, Coughlin, and NBC for not sharing that scoop back in 2008. (Oh, and the Jets for knocking them off the back page Friday.) Whether Bettis is right or not, this will only raise the tension in New York heading into the 2010 season. A Super Bowl title only buys you two years off the hot seat these days. -
When it comes to charting Cowher's career, don't bet against Bettis Posted by Mike Florio on January 14, 2010 7:14 PM ET Rosenthal posted earlier tonight the eye-opening comments from former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis regarding his belief that former Steelers coach Bill Cowher is waiting for the Giants job to come open. And Bettis has a high degree of credibility in these matters. He was one of the first to proclaim with any degree of fact that 2006 would be Cowher's last season with the Steelers. "I really think this is the last year for Coach Cowher in Pittsburgh," Bettis said at halftime of an NBC preseason game between the Redskins and the Bengals in August 2006. "I talked to him after the season was over and I really think he was really a different coach, a different guy." This time, Bettis sounds even more certain. "He would have definitely gotten the [Giants] job and if [Tom] Coughlin doesn't get that team back in the right direction next year I think they'll pull the plug," Bettis told Chris Russo of Sirius XM Mad Dog Radio. We still think there's a chance the plug gets pulled this year, if the Jets end up closing out Giants Stadium by hosting the AFC title game.

The fact that you mention the Raiders in the same breath speaks mightily! -
You might be right in that regard. However, the family is rearing it's head this year.... Unfortunatley the lesser of 2 evils is still evil.

Man, I truly do feel your pain!

Phillips is the President and CEO of the Chicago Bears since 1999. He has now had over a decade in his role. He was set in that spot after the Michael KcCaskey Dave McGuinness "hire". It was an obvious PR move by Viginia after the uber-embarssment of the debacle to save some semblance of face. Many also believe Teddy was placed in there do help seal the deal on the new stadium because top players couldn't stand to be in the same room w/ Mikey boy. No doubt, Ted did a great job getting the stadium deal done. However, if I'm told he's CEO and President, and he is not, then the owners are liars. Many presidents have to go to owners for various approvals, etc.. Ted is no different. If he is President, how can he not be in charge of football operations? That's his freakin' line of business! he was a controller for the team since 1983! Don't you think by the sheer power of osmosis, he'd pick up on something? That's almost 3 decades of being in the inner workings of the business! To give this guy a pass is not acceptable. Here are some bad marks on Ted... 1. He had to get outside help to hire a GM 2. He signed off financially on a horrific financial deal for Smith after the Super Bowl. You said Smith's deal was fair. Far from it. It's a great deal for Smith and bad for the team. They now can't get rid of the dead weight. Some did rip the deal, just not many. Ad I'm not sure how much they looked into how long and how guaranteed the deal was. 3. His team hasn't won a Super Bowl in over a decade under his watch. Sorry, to me, that's failure. Your comment is intruiging: "Some of you think everything the org does is always wrong no matter what and it can be pretty ridiculous and tiresome to read." Not sure who you are referring to...but I think you are expressing your frustration in reading negativity. I don't think there's a person here (maybe besides TerraTor.... ) that thinks "everything" the org does is always wrong. However, there's a LOT wrong. Do you think this is actually a very well run organization? I don't. I don't think many on this site do. From what I pick up around the papers, TV, interent and radio, many "experts" don't think so either. I'm truly sorry if my (or others') negativity about how shoddily run this organization is is irritating to you. Believe you me, I'm FAR more irritated by almost 30 years of futility with a couple nifty seasons in-between. I'd love to see another championship before another 30 years goes by... Right now, the odds aren't good with this current dog & pony show.

We can dream!
-
WHAT?!!!! Really? You think Ted has done nothing wrong?
-
I think if Smith were to go...JA would probably follow. At least one would hope! This one would be a firing... Sweaty Teddy will have a finance job somewher ein the org regardless.
-
Glad it worked for you! I was worried after Cracekrgod couldn't get to it... Agreed!

perfect breakdown of the situation!

Maybe Smith forced his way on him, and Coughlin will let him do his thing... Wouldn't surprise me in the least. In fact, it makes a ton of sense.
