I was really targeting another player but the Jets foiled that and I went for a home run with the result providing help for Jay Cutler so that he can emulate his great predecessor a little by giving him a back capable of producing taking pressure off and producing like TD or Portis but with more power! Too high to take a WR.
Jason:
I guess you did not read my post discussing why I picked Mendenhall -- Yes I gambled to move up ahead of Cincey because I was hoping that Golhston the DE would be available but once he was gone I went with Rashard because their is value later on for DL, OL, & WR help for the Broncos. I traded Bly beacuse he is toast since he was un willing to move to safety and it is time for Foxworth to start. Henry and Young were both hurt last season and Mendhall was the backup plan when Gohlston was taken. Normally I would not have made a trade so ealry to move up unless my guy was there but since this is a mock and not being done in real time it definatley did not happen in an ideal way but we agreed to trade anyway.
by the way, did you think the draft was silly 2 years ago when Shanahan traded up to number 11 for Cutler???
I was just wondering since you jumped to conclusions in this mock.

I've put the shrp instruments away...
No surprise. Teams would be foolish to pass on that guy... (Sorry, I couldn't resist)

Depending on how the draft goes and who the Bears target; a back I like that will be there in Round 3 or 4 is Thomas Brown out of Georgia. He is a solid 5'9" 204lb with good combo speed, vision with the ability to go between the tackles when needed. This would allow the Bears to address some other areas should they deem RB not best player available at earlier rounds.

Yeah, he is a jackass though -- my cousin dated leinart his rookie season and she said he was a complete jerk.
-
K. Brown looks like an excellent prospect -- what round is he projected to be drafted?
-
We already had Kordell and that did not seem to work. For a 3rd string QB should be a prospect with upside to be a passing QB with some mobility. I will admit I have not seen either QB play but what do you all think about this prospect with a late pick?

Kevin O'Connell
Height: 6-5 | Weight: 225 | 40-Time: 4.61
Official Bio
Strengths:
Has excellent size and a big frame...Terrific athleticism...Great timed speed...Arm is strong enough to make all the throws..Nice touch and timing..Is mobile enough to buy time in the pocket and make plays with his feet...Can throw on the run...Hard worker...Very competitive...Team leader...A lot of experience...Has a ton of upside.
Weaknesses:
Inconsistent with his accuracy..Mechanics need some refinement..Struggles under pressure and makes poor decisions...Does not read defenses well..Still raw and is probably a better athlete than quarterback...Could have some durability concerns.
Notes:
Was essentially a four-year starter...Missed time with a thumb injury that required surgery in '06..Has everything you look for in terms of physical tools as well as top intangibles...An extremely intriguing prospect with the talent to eventually start at the next level..Not a finished product and will require some patience but you have to love his potential..Appears to be the quintessential developmental signal caller.

Yeah it really depends on what the bears do early on as well as how the draft goes but I think I still would take him in the 5th assuming we have already drafted OT, RB, WR, OG. Manny people even worry about saftey depth but I think when healthy we should have adequate depth there as well. As much as Dmanning gets on my nerves with his poor technique, pursuit angles and bad tackling he actually started playing better late in the season and was much more physical too.
-
I will atleast give MB credit that he when healthy at least played better than the Bears previous number 1 (#87)? Now if he can stay healthy & out of Lovie's dog house I think he can make an impact and like him more than Rasheed Davis.
-
I would be very happy with Alberts even happier if we were able to move down a little to get him. I really like his abillity to move his feet and get to the next level to block. I really do not see th eBears passing on an OT with the 14th since they have not addressed the OL in FA. I imagine they will go OL, then best avaible with the 2nd round RB, OG, WR then look to add some depth in the 3rd.
-
I definatley do not think QB situation is as big a problem as most people tend to think it is regarding the Bears. We have 2 young fairly experienced QB's who should improve there game; but to what level who knows but atleast we have shown we can win with them both. The bigger issue remains who is protecting the QB and the lack of weapons around him (RB & WR). With that said I also do not mind regulary drafting QB prospects and try to uncover a diamond in the rough. The Bears should take Colt with a 7th round selection and help him rehab because this kid has done some nice things in college and is worth a late round flyer.
-
I will participate. I live in Denver and would be happy to pick for them since we all can't be JA and draft for the Bears.
I think we defiantley will needs some ground rules to follow.
-
I do not think you can trade comp picks
-
The way Mendenhall makes his cuts reminds me of Portis and I could see Shanahan falling in love with him at 12.

Trade down

I actually like this pick.
I for one dont mind reaches if I like the player or he is a fit for our team.
I am a big Miami fan and was absolutely overjoyed when we took Hester even though 95% of this board blasted the choice. I had followed him in college and knew what he could do with the ball in his hands.
I was also excited that the Bears drafted Hester after studying his highlights he was just what we needed after the PR diasters of predecssors previous season (Remeber WADE fumbling like 3 punts in the same game ) The Bears were fortunate they took him with their second pick becuase I think I remebr reading that TB was going to select Hester if he was available when they picked.
This is an excellent example when you really like a player, and he can impact your team in an area that needs an immediate attention i.e. kick/punt return special teams help and the GM makes that pick to secure this player. Kudos to JA on this move.
There is no doubt that JA's plan is to retool the offense via the draft especially in the areas of OL, RB, WR since he was not willing to over pay for FA. Still would like to add WR Jackson if he is still available.
-
It would be great to slide down a little and pick up Alberts and then another first day pick to help fill some other needs like RB, WR, QB in no partiular order
-
I used to love Madden. I played it 24/7 on my PS1.
But, the game has really dried up in my opinion. It's really dull, now.
Plus, 2k5 is a great game and really fun.
Also, the reviews are outstanding for it.
It may take me awhile to update the Bears rosters and of course the other 31 teams.
But, i can do it.
I also was a fan of NFL2k series and still a little bitter the NFL sold the exclusive rights to MADDEN. It's a shame because without competition these games do not change or evolve for the better of the fans who purchase them. But I did give in and bought the Mdden 07 for my original xbox.
