  1. Great thread... One that needs some discussion for sure. There are two that jump to mind: 1) Joe's on Weed street is probably chicago's best sports bar. On Sundays, the place rocks. Get there early. Its a great environment. If you're going for a Monday Night Game Bears Game, its going to be packed with 1000's of screaming fans. 2) Grace O'Malley's - Its down by the stadium. Its a new place. I have only been there when the bears are playing at home. Its a true Bears bar and when I've been there, its flooded... especially before and after the game. Otherwise, I found this page on Metromix... which is an excellent guide to chicago bars and restaurants. I haven't been to many of these places for Bears games, but you may find it interesting: http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/barsand...1,2227341.story
  2. 2006 NFL Draft: Pick #1: 1 sack Pick #159: 3.5 sacks
  3. I can't wait for our defensive line to play arizona in two weeks. Their O-Line is dreadful (worst in the NFL) and Matt Leinart will be making his second start of his NFL career. Oh man... they are going to be all over him. That could be a massive day for the defense... and on Monday night too
  4. I would like to see Cedric Benson suceed as much as the next guy... but the guy sucks at pass blocking. And with the multitude of blitz packages the bears saw all day against the Vikings, keeping Jones in was the right move. Jones is a much better blocking HB and he played very well on Sunday.
  5. The packers are damn lucky to be down 16-0... this game could EASILY be totally out of hand already
  6. pass blocking was a strength of his last year... today, he looks like cedric benson
  7. oh man... what a way to start the season... there's so much to be hopeful for after that drive
  8. Rookie Punter? What happened to that guy they traded a second and third round pick to move up and grab him in the early second round? Is he cut already?
  9. A mild tale of Irony: 1) The bears have two picks in the first round of 2003, Number 14 and Number 22. 2) Three years later, neither has significantly produced for the team. 3) Number 14 is given some chances, but is largely written off after the first season. Other players on the team seem better suited for his position. 4) Number 22 plays 8 games in three years. When he does play in the preseason, the offense manages only one touchdown and the back-up looks infinitely more skilled. Other players on the team seem better suited for his position. 5) Number 22 is super-glued to the starting qb position regardless of his failure to produce and general fragility. Management clings to him and steadfastly supports him regardless of his inexperience... 6) Number 14 is released for nothing... Despite being heathly, he's not given a chance to play after the first year. I'm not saying the Michael Haynes is a hall of famer. But I do find it curious how quickly he was written off. The obvious difference is that Alex Brown and Wale are clearly better than Haynes... Nonetheless, the whole situation doesn't make a ton of sense. They kept this guy around for two years knowing he wouldn't be a system player and got nothing for him in return. First round talent (especially #14 talent) should be worth something. They should have realized this long ago... get something... even a fourth rounder. To release him, IMO is just dumb. Lets call a spade a spade: This was either 1) a terrible draft pick in a highly valuable draft spot; or 2) a galatically botched personnel error spanning basically two years. It might be both.
  10. Depth?! what are you talking about?! We have 4-5 guys who could play the number 4 reciever on any team! I don't know what Rod Gardner has in the tank. As I recall, he's slowed down considerably. But at this point, you might as well throw as much shit against the wall and see what sticks...
  11. I love this rivalry.... I' appreciate when the players and coaches talk it up.
  12. Well, Its the second quarter... guess someone should start a thread Rex looked good. So did Leon Joe actually. can't wait until the 10th
  13. In addition to a first rounder, they'll have to pay branch about 6.2 million. I'm pretty sure the bears have the space... but thats way too much. Actually, the first rounder is way to much. I bet by friday the Pats will take a third round pick.
  14. There are four potential combinations of starters at the QB and RB position: 1) Griese and Thomas Jones 2) Griese and Cedric Benson 3) Rex and Thomas Jones 4) Rex and Cedric Bensen The fact that the management of this team came into this season with choice 4 as its number 1 option scares the shit out of me. Griese and Jones give this team the best chance to win. Period. Honestly, they are just looking to validate Angelo's draft strategy. Its stupid stupid stupid. The tunnel vision in the organization continues... With Griese and Jones, this team can win now. There is no controversy... Rex is starting. Everybody knows who is best for this team now (even Angelo). He's just standing by the job he's down as GM.
  15. This makes me happy... I hope we see TJ in the starter role for 16 games plus 3-4 post season games.
  16. Cedric is on pace to have a very short, tumultous career if he keeps getting injured and doing dumbass things like leaving the field before a game is over. screw him... I'd prefer TJ any day of the week.
  17. its pretty hard to evaluate grossman when he doesn't get the ball
  18. Bearstalk has really got to improve attendance here...
  19. In the first pre-season game, there were a number of posts stating that Rex did fine... It was only the first game out.... yadda yadda yadda. So what are your expecations for tonight? Offense: I expect to see at least one sustained drive from the first team offense. By sustained I mean 8-9+ plays and 60+ yards. I hope they mix up the talent at WR... try and see what each of them do (with both the 1st and 2nd team). Protection was decent in game one... The o-line could take a step back from the game one performance and I would still be unconcerned. Defense: I don't expect much from the defense... mainly because I don't think they will scheme much. Probably just show basic 4-3 defense cover two most of the game. They may break out a blitz package periodically... but for this squad, its probably unnecessary. It might not be a bad idea to let the young corners practice man to man. Also, I don't think Antonio Gates will play much... if he does play, it should give the linebacking core a nice opportunity to test TE assignments before the regular season. Special Teams: I don't know why Danieal Manning fielded a kickoff last week. IMO, if you used a second round pick on a specialist like Devin Hester, there is no reason to risk injury to a possible future contributer by wasting him in the pre-season. Let's see what Devin Hester can do. I'd also like see a lengthy FG attempt.
