This is a bottom 10 team in the league. It's unfortunate they are without their 1st round pick this year, because they're going to need a massive overhaul of talent here pretty soon. All of their best guys on defense, with the exception of Roquan, have gotten older and slower. Khalil Mack is not a game changing star anymore. He's gotten worse every year he's been with the team. Eddie Jackson is so bad right now, that if he wasn't making so much money, you would seriously consider cutting him. I don't think I've ever seen a more promising young player who's career has taken such a drastic turn for the worst after the way he started out. We know how bad Robert Quinn is. Eddie Goldman is never available anymore.. There just isn't much here to be excited about, and I think it's only going to get worse when players inevitably get injured. Andy Dalton is a waste of time and a waste of reps for Justin Fields, who I thought looked poised and under control in the limited amount of reps he got today. The OL played good enough to win, especially in the run game. Of course they lose both of their LT's in week 1. You knew that was going to happen. I thought David Montgomery was easily their best player tonight. If he's going to continue to run the ball like that, they need to feature him more in the offense moving forward. The most hilarious part about tonight's game is the fact that Andy Dalton did not attempt a pass beyond 15 yards all game. The Bears ranted and raved all offseason about how much speed they added at the WR position, and yet, they didn't do anything to take advantage of it. Typical Bears. Typical Matt Nagy. I think they are going to lose next week to Cincinnati at home. This season has a 2017 feel to it. Fields will be in there before the first month of the season is over. I would be totally shocked if Dalton survives through CLE.

You literally couldn't draw up a more perfect scenario for Justin Fields to step in to. By this time next year there is a very real possibility that neither Rodgers nor Davante Adams are GB Packers anymore. My body is ready.

Darnold is awful. He's never had a year where he looked better than Trubisky, so I don't know why anybody would think he'll suddenly show it now. People like to rag on Minshew for whatever reason, but he's put up some impressive numbers on a horrid Jacksonville team the last two years. He's sneaky good, and with the right playcaller/team, he could be a steal for somebody.

Glad the Bears didn't give up picks for this guy. Awful trade for the Colts. There is no rational basis for why any team should have had to give up a pick for Carson Wentz when you see what the Rams had to give up just to get rid of Jared Goff. The Eagles were always going to trade Wentz, and everybody knew it. Getting a potential 1st and 3rd round pick back for a guy who was the worst starting quarterback in football last year is highway robbery.

With Nagy back calling the plays again, I'm good with making wholesale changes. The man just continues to let his own ego get in the way of winning football. The playcalling today looked awfully similar to 2019 with all the shotgun formations and inside runs. Of course, since they made the playoffs, he's not going anywhere, and neither is Pace, which means we're stuck with this same group for at least another year. The question will be with which quarterback? Trubisky showed again today why his ceiling is an average-to-below average NFL starter. He just makes too many dumb decisions with the football, and it seems to get even worse in the redzone. If you stop their run game and sit on all the short routes, Mitch Trubisky isn't a difficult quarterback to stop. I really don't care whether they bring him back now or not. The future Bears quarterback is not on their current roster. At the very least, Chuck Pagano needs to be fired immediately after they are eliminated from the playoffs. What that man has done with the amount of talent he's had at his disposal is criminal. There is a big difference between a great DC and a bad one, and we are seeing that on full display now. He's turned Khalil Mack into a virtual nonfactor and oversaw Eddie Jackson's descent from All Pro to maybe not even a starting caliber safety. There's been a lot to talk about all year, but to me, the massive decline of the defense is the story of the Bears season.

If they miss the playoffs, they'll look back at that DET game as the most costly loss of the season. Not sure the Cardinals lose another game. I also don't think GB will end up resting their starters, because I don't see them beating TEN next week.
-
Yes. I've been saying for a while now that Trubisky's ceiling is probably what Jimmy G was last year, and that he belongs in a Kyle Shanahan-style offense, because of all the roll out stuff. If only we had a coach here who would wake up and see what everybody else has been saying for the past two years. When Mitch gets in a groove, he's usually using his legs as a weapon, both in the run and pass game.
-
Credit to Trubisky for playing his best game of the season, though. He's played pretty well since returning as the starter, and I thought today was even better than last week. When he gets a running game and doesn't have to throw it downfield, he can be a pretty efficient quarterback. I thought the 1st half playcalling was really good, but I was frustrated in the 2nd half to see them only able to muster up 6 points in the 2nd half while they were blowing HOU out.
-
Imagine if they won last week, what we'd be saying about this team? The way this season is going, they're going to win out and miss out with a 9-7 record. AZ only has 6 losses, and I think hold the tiebreaker against the Bears, which means they'd need to lose 2 of their next 3 to miss the post-season. They've got PHI, SF, and LAR remaining on their schedule.. In other words, not likely. Instead, they'll just freak up their draft position in typical Bears fashion and we'll get one more run it back year with Pace and Nagy, probably without Mitch.
-
I would fire Ryan Pace right now and let the new GM decide Matt Nagy's fate. This doesn't seem to be a great year for HC candidates, and I also think the Bears would have a hard time competing for the top candidates against teams who either have a young QB or will be in better position to draft one. I want a new coach, but I wouldn't be totally against the idea of giving Nagy one more year with a GM who can identify offensive talent.
-
Washington and SF winning would be good for the Bears. Washington has a brutal schedule down the stretch, but I think you'd rather have them win the division instead of the Giants, because I don't think the Giants would be in the market for a quarterback.

They were 13th before today's game, not 15th. http://www.tankathon.com/nfl/mock_draft

He and Pace are definitely getting fired now, right? What an embarrassing way to lose a game.
-
As much as I think we're heading for 7-9 (the two wins coming against DET and JAX), it is not out of the realm of possibility that this team is 9-6 leading into the final game against GB. HOU just lost two of their better players to PED's (lol), and MIN still has Kirk Cousins and a terrible defense. GB might have their playoff seed locked in before we play them and rest some of their starters. Stranger things have happened.. I don't think it's likely, but we always knew the schedule towards the end of the year was going to be super light.

http://www.tankathon.com/nfl Bears currently picking at 14 after yesterday's game. SF leapfrogging us is a good thing, because you know that's one team that absolutely wants to draft a quarterback in the 1st round if possible. New England is another team right behind us at 15 that would probably like to have a QB if one of the 4 main guys are available. The Jets, Jaguars, Redskins, and Broncos are 4 teams that you can bet your house on that will take a quarterback if any of the 4 are available, and teams like PHI, ATL, DET, and MIN, who are all ahead of the Bears in draft order, are possible sleeper teams that could target a quarterback. Needless to say, the Bears are going to have some steep competition to get one of those guys before some of these other teams do, and I think they're going to have to be inside the top 10 to do it. Given the schedule the rest of the way, I don't see them doing that. They'll get at least 1 win against JAX and probably another against DET. 7-9 seems to be the most likely scenario.

As far as what to do with the team moving forward: For me, I'm all in on a full rebuild. They're not going to be bad enough to draft any of the top 4 quarterbacks in this draft, and they have an aging defense that's been trending downwards every year since 2018. If it were up to me, I'd look to recoup some of those lost draft picks from the Trubisky, Miller, Montgomery, Mack trades and start selling off some of their veterans like Mack, Hicks, Fuller, and maybe even Eddie Jackson. The only two players on defense that I would look to keep are Jaylon Johnson and Roquan Smith. I would then look to use those picks either to trade up for a quarterback, or, if not, use some of those extra picks to rebuild that OL, then draft a developmental guy in the 2nd or 3rd round and tank hard in 2021 to get a top 5 pick the following year when you can draft another quarterback high, and hopefully have a few young stud offensive lineman to build from.
-
In an odd way, that was probably the best Trubisky has looked all year, and it still wasn't that good. He made 3 bad decisions, 2 that resulted in INT's, and one that should have been picked in the endzone that went through the DB's hands. He also should have had another TD if it weren't for Kmet and Robinson dropping 2 great throws on the opening drive. Overall, I thought he threw it with confidence, because I think he knows he doesn't have anything to lose anymore. I didn't see any hesitancy or panic in the pocket. He looked like a backup, which, at this point, is basically what I think Mitch's future as a quarterback is. He showed yesterday that he's good enough to stay in the league for a while, but not good enough to overcome his mental mistakes and physical limitations of throwing the deep ball.

Sounding more and more like the beginning of the end.

I can't fault Pace for going after Foles, because I pushed for the Bears to go after him in the off-season, but I completely underestimated just how bad Matt Nagy really was as a playcaller. I sort of bought into the idea that Mitch was mostly to blame for the offensive faults, but it's quite clear at this point that the problems run deeper than just at quarterback. Ryan Pace is now 0 for 3 in acquiring quarterbacks as the Bears GM. He gave big money to Mike Glennon, he traded a fortunate to move up to draft Trubisky, and then went out and traded for Nick Foles. He's used every available avenue possible to get a quarterback, and he's struck out all 3 times. Under no circumstances, should he be allowed a 4th chance at another quarterback.
-
This is the most unwatchable offense the Bears have had since 2004. 2017 is close, but at least then they had a rookie quarterback worth watching. This isn't even football. I don't know what this is. All I know is that I'm completely done with Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy. It's time for a full on rebuild. They need to trade Hicks, Mack, and Fuller in the off-season and get back a couple of 1sts to go after one of the stud quarterbacks in the draft, as well as rebuilding this offensive line. This is the oldest defense in the league, and they've been trending down since 2018. Their window is closed. It's time to re-do this whole thing under a new GM and HC.
-
The Robert Quinn signing was a disaster. Mack's contract is not as bad for the value you're getting out of him, but his impact has trailed off a bit since 2018. He was bad last year, better this year, but still not quite the same. He's been dealing with nagging injuries all year, which may explain some of his inconsistency, but he's also approaching 30 and probably a year or two away from being an albatross. The Bears wasted his prime years.
-
He was fools gold to me. In 2018 and 2019, I thought he looked poised to have a breakout year after watching what he did in pre-season and game 1 against the Packers. He'd always start off hot for a game or two, and then fade into oblivion without picking up another sack the rest of the way.
-
I think it would be smart to move on from Mack at this point. This team is more than 1 or 2 players away from being a SB contender on offense, and by the time they find the quarterback that can get them there, a lot of their defensive players will be too old. Hicks, Mack, Quinn, Fuller maybe soon.. If they can get a early or mid 1st round pick for Mack this year, I'd think long and hard about it. I wouldn't do it for anything else, though.

As previously stated, the season could very well be on the line in a couple of weeks against MIN. If they lose that game, along with the TEN game, they're done. Minnesota doesn't look like an easy win anymore as long as Dalvin Cook is healthy. The two positives I take away from tonight's game is that Darnell Mooney is going to be no worse than a good #3 WR, and also Dwayne Harris is infinitely better than Ted Ginn as a punt returner. I liked what I saw from him in this game. From this point forward, Mooney needs to be touching the ball at least 7-10 times a game. He's the one guy on this offense that can make plays with his feet, and so they need to start using him in more ways that can exploit a defense. Him blowing past defenders is becoming a weekly occurrence the last couple of weeks, and yet he's only managed to bring down 1 of those balls.
