November 8, 20205 yr comment_181995 I don’t know how reliable Over The Cap is but it looks like we are in a right mess. Pace just throws money without caring about the consequences. The amount of money tied up with Mack and Quinn is ridiculous especially when they have been poor. If we move on from Leno and Massie next year there is still a lot of dead money owed. 2 years ago things looked good and now it’s worse than the Trestmen and Emery era. Report
November 9, 20205 yr comment_182002 It is bad, especially considering the cap is going DOWN next year due to COVID to 175M. We have 32 players signed to 178M worth of contracts, and need to get to a 53 man roster. That is 21 players, so we are easily 25-30M over the cap without Trubisky, ARob, etc This is what 178M looks like: Offense: Foles, Cohen, Montgomery, Miller, Ridley, Wims, Mooney, Graham (10M), Kmet, Leno (11M), Massie (9M), Whitehair (9M), Daniels (2M), Hambright, Pierce, Mustipher, Clark. Defense: Mack (26M), Quinn (14M), Goldman (8M), Smith, Trevathan, Iyiegbuniwe, Fuller (20M), Skrine, Jackson (11M), Johnson, Shelley, Vildor, Roberson, Lucas. Report
November 9, 20205 yr comment_182005 If you cut Leno, you gain 6 million in projected cap space - even more if you do it as a June 1st cut and spread the hit over 2 years. Here's a great breakdown of the options. https://overthecap.com/calculator/chicago-bears/ Report

Here's a great breakdown of the options. https://overthecap.com/calculator/chicago-bears/ That is a great tool. The first thing to do is restructure Mack and Fuller to bring down their cap hits under 20M. I got Mack's down to 17M and Fuller down to 13M saving a total of 16M. You are correct, post-June 1st,Leno's dead money is only $2.3M, that is a no brainer if you can't trade him. Massie is the same, only $1.3M in dead money post June 1st. Those are no-brainers. Skrine would be 1.1M, which makes sense as he seems to be the hole in the secondary (both TDs allowed by him). Report
November 10, 20205 yr comment_182011 The Robert Quinn signing was a disaster. Mack's contract is not as bad for the value you're getting out of him, but his impact has trailed off a bit since 2018. He was bad last year, better this year, but still not quite the same. He's been dealing with nagging injuries all year, which may explain some of his inconsistency, but he's also approaching 30 and probably a year or two away from being an albatross. The Bears wasted his prime years. Report
