Chris Williams Vs. Jeff Otah

Featured Replies

If the Bears are going to take a OL in the 1st I was wondering what type of Lineman do the people on this board want to get. Take in mind im figuring Ryan Clady and Long are gone before we pick. So the next highest rated prospects are:

Chris Williams great foot work and technique excellent pass blocker can handle speed rushers very agile and athletic.

or

Jeff Otah monster of a man who is extremely strong and powerful knock you out your socks kinda a guy but raw with alot of upside.

Basically are we going to be a pass crazy team or a "start running off the bus" type of team.

Unfortunately, we don't appear very good at either running or passing at the moment. My bet is with running. We've certainly had more success over time running than passing. But, maybe that's the case that's needed to say go with a passing OL...

I tend to like monsters though... Otah looks like as good a bet as any.

The issue that scares me isn't pass/run, it's polished versus raw.

Think about this...how many more years do the Bears have where this group could make a legit run? Do the Bears have time to try to develop a guy who is starting off somewhat raw?

Chris Williams is also a real good run blocker and has LT potential, whereas Otah has little, if any. If Williams can get a nasty attitude, he can be a beast and a franchise LT. Right now, he is a little "soft."

We don't zone block...that's what the Broncos and Giants do. We run a power run scheme, which means everyone has a guy he's assigned to block, whereas zone blocking is just that: you block an area in a given direction, regardless of who is going where. We do try to pull Olin and Ruben, but neither can get to the spot quick enough...

I would rather get a more athletic lineman that can get out and move a little bit in our zone blocking scheme..

Angelo seems to make every move with an eye on the future AND an eye on the present. In other words, he wants to win now and win later.

Assuming we draft an OT early, I'd be shocked if we don't "red-shirt" him for a year, the way we have our d-linemen (Okwo & Dvoracek.) That means we'll likely suffer through one more year of Fred Miller, but I'd rather live with him then a rookie.

This is assuming we don't sign an OT in free agency.
