Our Wrs in the last few years have been hampered greatly by erratic play of the QB. I know it is a 50/50 situation, the Wr is responsible also for our Passing Offense, but let's face it, rather it be the lack of protection for the QB or the bad play of the QB, out Wrs have not been given much of a chance to shine. Ho productive do you think Moss, Owens, or Wayne would have been in our offense last year? I fear they would not have done very good at all, probably posting half the numbers they did in 2007 with good QBs throwing them the ball. There has been so many on the forum not only thinking the glass as half empty rather than half full, many are thinking it is totally empty. I would at least like to see the first regular season game against a high quality team to make some form of judgement before I decide who I want with the first overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, LOL. I would say Bennett and Bradley are absolutely out, and Booker is out too, in terms of starting spots. That leaves Lloyd, Davis and Hester. While we intend to work Hester into the offense this year, I am not sure they want to make him the instant starter. Also, I still think he could be most dangerous from the slot. If we go off reports, Hester has done enough to warrant consideration though. Key I think is he has displayed better than expected route running and knowledge of the offense. Still, I think Orton has shown the most chemistry w/ Davis and Lloyd, who has simply made some great plays on the ball. I would start those two, w/ Hester subbing for one, as well as playing out of the slot. Even if he is not a starter, Hester can play a very large number of the snaps. Booker could become a 3rd down specialist, ala Engram. Of if a starter fails to continue solid preseason play, Booker could move up (assuming he looks good himself). What I am really interested in though, more than who starts at WR, is how much we use two TE sets. We are far more solid at TE than at WR, and I would have to have two of our TEs on the bench the majority of the time. In a two TE set, Hester and Davis could be the starters, and when not in a two TE set, LLoyd and Davis, w/ Hester in the slot. Anyone figure out who our starting WR are? But I also see Hester being subbed out a lot in which id hope Bradley would take his place, simply because in pre-season even though was overthrown at the time Bradley showed the capability to get open deep. 'TD' Posted September 1, 2008 Report Share Posted September 1, 2008 I think it will be Booker Davis and Hester. The staff knows what they have in Booker and he didn't have to compete. Everyone else was competing for a position, so I'm guessing he will start for sure. I think Davis won out the second spot with a stellar offseason. I could see Hester playing a bit in alot of 2 WR sets cutting in either booker or davis' time just for speed. I'm just not sure when you will see Lloyd. 4 WR sets it looks like they would go with Bradley because of his speed or Bennett because he is a rookie. This is all speculation on my part since I'm not sure what specific positions our WR's have been playing this preseason but I agree with the last post that the Bears lack of evaluation of Booker must mean he's a starter. On the other side, maybe Lloyd backs up Davis since Lloyd is still new to the offense (assuming Davis has been permanently moved out of slot). I think Ron Turner indicated he wanted to double the number of snaps Hester was involved with up to something like 25 snaps/game, but even that is not quite up to the level of starter. Maybe Hester'll continue to get slot work or replace Booker when Lloyd is also in there to give us two fast guys on the field at once.
