Bad sign for Hunter?

Featured Replies

Hunter was already in a tough position. Coming off a bad season, the guy who replaced him has been seemingly replaced by a veteran (Pisa), likely pushing Hunter further down the depth chart. Hunter needs to make a strong case to stick, but w/ the injury, he can't even play right now.

IMHO, the best argument for him to stay on the team was his ability to provide depth at both SLB and MLB. Just read today that, w/ Urlacher held out of practice (for a minor issue), it was Jamar Williams manning the middle. If Jamar, who all reports say has had among the best offseason showings thus far, can prove capable of handling the middle, the top reason to keep Hunter may be gone before he ever gets on the field to prove himself.

I agree. If the Bears only keep 6 linebackers this season and they're convinced that Jamar Williams can be Urlacher's backup, then I think the 6 are probably Briggs/Urlacher/Pisa and Freeman/Williams/Roach. Hunter could very well be the odd man out.

If that is the case, I sure hope JA works out a trade with someone for I hate giving up players without any compensation, even if it is a 3rd, 4th, or 5th rounder.

How did Hunter perform on special teams last year? That could be the one thing that saves him. Although spending 1.6 million per year (I could be wrong about that) for him to play special teams is kind of high.

Last season, being exposed, was THE bad sign for Hunter.

I'm not sure we could get much more than a conditional late-round pick for him, but I agree that if we can deal him for a pick, we should. I'm sure that there are at least a couple of 4-3 teams out there with question marks at linebacker. If Angelo Crowell's knee problem turns out to be serious, maybe the Bucs would be interested.
