January 3, 201214 yr Author comment_99524 The current press conference has Ted Phillips sounding defiant and also basically saying that Lovie will remain as coach and Ruskell will head the scouting operations. The only restriction placed on the new GM will be that Lovie will be the HC in 2012. Report

January 3, 201214 yr comment_99527 So be it. At least we have the potential to better ourselves 1/2way! Ted: "One restriction that will be placed on any candidate will be Lovie Smith is our head coach for 2012." Report
January 3, 201214 yr comment_99528 I am trying to figure out why Lovie would have input on the next GM. Report

January 3, 201214 yr comment_99531 Why can't they just fire Tim Ruskell? He was Jerry's hand picked guy and now he's gone. Makes no sense to keep him. Report

January 3, 201214 yr comment_99533 Cause Lovie is a good coach. That statement would be a whole new topic. Report
January 3, 201214 yr comment_99538 I would have rather heard the Bears will strongly encourage a GM candidate to retain Lovie, but that it won't be a litmus test. Report
January 3, 201214 yr comment_99540 They said what needed to be said... They believe in Smith still and want their GM to as well. Something tells me, for the right GM for the right price, etc...Smith could be shown the door. It all depends... January 4, 201214 yr comment_99542 Ted: "One restriction that will be placed on any candidate will be Lovie Smith is our head coach for 2012." This is what happens when you place an accountant in charge of football operations. I guess we should see if any fortune 500 companies want to place Peanut Tillman as their CFO. Makes about as much sense. Report
January 4, 201214 yr comment_99544 Did it make anyone else feel a little uneasy when you found out that Ted Phillips pretty much is in control of everything important for the organization? Because it did to me. Report

If he's not, there's always "oh well, I changed my mind". Sort of like naming your QB the outright starter before training camp when reality is everything is dependent on how situations can change.
