  2. I agree. Teams dont take their foot off of the accelerator when a SB window opens, quite the opposite. Many teams will go into cap hell to try to get over the hump to win a SB. Im not saying we should do THAT, but now WOULD be the time to take the cap hit and bring in a stud Edge rusher.
  3. there is a difference between perfect and a one sided roster either on offense or on defense. good + offenses get you to a superbowl. good + offenses plus good to good + defenses, (or visa versa) to go along with it WIN superbowls. if you can't stop the run or rush the passer (and we can't/couldn't do either) i will come right out and say you will lose 99.9% of superbowls even if you luck out to get there. sure there are dark horse teams who will win one but if you want to build a dynasty you can't believe that you draft for the future cap hit. this is the first time hearing this in my life of watching the nfl. it makes absolutely no sense.
  4. Good points, they won a SB with a great coach-average QB and a very good defense. Also the 9th best rushing team in the league. If Caleb is the man, Ben the coach , 2nd in the league in rushing. , we arent that far away.

Seattle won the SB last year with the 6th best sack team in the league. Also NE made the SB with the same number of sacks we had. (35) 4 of the top 6 sack leaders didnt make the playoffs Atl-Minn-Browns-Lions Playoff teams 2025: top 10 in sacks Denver-Rams-Seattle-Chargers-Eagles-Texans-Steelers other teams Bears-49ers-NE-GB-Panthers-Bills-Jaguars Seahawks leading sackers L. Williams/7- B Murphy/7-U Nwosu/7-D Lawerence/6 - D Thomas/3.5 They run a 4-3 and 3 are LBers, I DE and 1 DT. Anyone can post stats to try to make a point and that's what this is. As much as pass rush defense is important, its not the end all to making it to a SB, Seattle shows its a consensus of pass rushers and not one top player. A lot with Seahawks success was scheme with speed and athletics players. I think we are building the defense in the same manner. Our top 5 sack leaders Sweat/11-Dexter/6- Booker/4.5 (6.5)-C J Gardner/3 -Jarrett/1.5- I dont think we are as far away from being a decent pass rush team

Seattle just won a Super Bowl with castoff QB Sam Darnold. They had also just moved on from their star WR in the same offseason. No team has a perfect roster.

As we know by the history of the NFL speed alone doesnt make you a good NFL player. We have an excellent coaching staff and a good scouting dept. so if they bring someone in, I think at least they have a chance to become a better player. Of course that doesnt make every prospect succeeds but I trust the staff(2025 draft) until they give me reason not too. I judge Poles differently with BJ and an upgraded coaching staff over before last year. They all have an input and it applies to their picks.
  8. Have to add Velus to this ChatGPT cartoon. Make him a V8 juice can, but change it to V12 with short arms.
  9. We got pretty lucky to pull off all those 2 minute comebacks. Most of the games we couldnt capitalize for most of the game until crunch time. I expect to see them improve in that early game consistency, if they do not, dont expect the same outcomes.

He was probably one of the 7th round picks they were looking at taking.
  11. Next year we have a more cap friendly situation to add a difference maker and will be a SB contender. The outlier is if Caleb Williams is what we think he is with BJs offense , our offense could be good enough to overcome any defense deficiencies. We did just win 12 games with a bad defense.

By actions of the Bear's brass, they are going to go with current assets as far as adding to the pass rush. DA, to my understanding, does a lot of stunts and blitz's. As we all know the sacks come from the DTs, LBers, and DBs, and with the added speed, I can see a lot more from the back seven . As much as Dexter was bad against the run he was 9th in sacks as a DT. He was 19th out of 134 in pressures. Grady Jarrett is on his last legs and was hurt most of the year. He appeared to play better towards the end of the year. He had 21 pressures and 3 sacks. If healthy, maybe he can get a few more sacks. Another DT that was bad against the run. K Street had 2 sacks and 6 pressures in limited snaps (109) pass rush . Not sure you could expect much out of him. James Lynch had 1 sack and 10 pressures in 179 pass rush snaps. Not sure he stays on the 53 man roster. Neville Gallimore had 4 sacks (25th out of 134) and 17 pressures in 279 snaps. He is the one addition that could add to the pass rush. Jordan van der Berg had 3 sacks and 29 pressures in 291 pass rush snaps. Hard to say what you get from a rookie but he has the upside to make a contribution. Dayo got injured but did nothing to encourage his ability to add the pass rush. In 2024 he had 3 sacks and 19 pressures. Not sure if moving him inside can boost his numbers but I am skeptical. Montez Sweat had 11 sacks (13th out of 115) and 54 pressures (19th) He is not a top ED in the NFL but at the top of the 2nd tier. He has the 16th highest paid, probably close to his value. Austin Booker had 5 sacks and 29 pressures. By the numbers he had 2 more sacks taken away due to penalty. In 8 games, I can see him reaching dd sacks this year. Shemar Turner being injured only having 34 pass rush snaps its hard to grade him. In 2023 he had 6 sacks in college. Not sure what to expect but he does have some upside. 6'3" 293 33.5 arms and 4.8 40 time. He has the length and relentless energy that the bears look for. A nasty attitude. Jonathan Garvin In college 2018 he had 60 Ts, 5.5 sacks, 17 TFL, 2 FF, 5 PDs. Doubt he ever makes the roster. 4.82 40 with 36" V and 125" BJ. Jamree Kromah has 4.77 40 had 10 sacks, 59 Ts and 17.5 TFL at a small school college. Probably will never be a rostered ED Jeremiah Martin 4.9 40 college year 41 Ts, 11 TFL and 8.5 sacks, Probably nothing Daniel Hardy 4.64 40 college year small school had 66 Ts, 24 TFL, 16.5 sacks. He is a great ST player , maybe he can add something to the pass rush Summary; I looked at this to boost my optimism that we might have some rostered players that could give us some pass rush, but it was kind of depressing. Its Sweat-Booker-Dexter with some upside with Turner . Maybe van der Berg could surprise but this doesnt have a good look to it. Go get Cam Jordan. Now I do think DAs scheme with more speed could boost the pass rush with the back 7 and faster DTs but this was kind of depressing.
  13. When I look at anything Bears, I am always optimistic. The more I read about Muhammad, the more I think he could threaten Stevenson for the #2 CB spot. Probably not at the start of the season but he has a lot of good tape.

Its a record guarantee for a UDFA for the Bears. Not referring to NFL money in general.
  15. there is no possible way a superbowl contending team can build their roster like this by ignoring key positions on your team for cap reasons in the future. not unless you just want to be under the cap continuously and screw winning like we have done for 40 years. it's a great way for owners to milk a team for money and worry about winning as a distant second. if you have a contender you can pick up free agents or even sign your own who want the rings at a discount price. plus the cap rises every year to blunt the higher salaries.
  16. AZ54 replied to Stinger226's topic in Bearstalk
Lot of cash for a UDFA.
  17. Yeah. Luther burden was upset where he was drafted and that worked out well for us.

Too funny. Squirrel can at least catch.
  20. Jordan made 6 mil Bosa made 12 mil Von Miller 6 mil Dante Fowler 6 mil A J Esprenza 6 mil Clowney only making 3.5 mil would be fine with me, I was thinking more likely Cam Jordan.
  21. Squirrel White took over for the infamous Velus Jones Jr. Velus at least has a ring. Wonder what kind of DMs Velus sent the Squirrel

Whoever the 6th WR may be. Rome-Burden-Raymond-Walker-Thomas and ? They kept 6 last year. I said they may have a chance, probably the PS. They gave cash to all three, not your normal UDFA. Bennett was a record amount for the bears. 300,000.

I think he might make the practice squad but was more pointing to he has speed. This year he run a 4.63 of which you pointed out he was coming off and injury. He has run a 4.28 previously. You are right, he doesnt have wiggle but if any coach can find some plays for a 4.28 guy, its BJ. I cant wait to see a play with Loveland, Raymond, Rome, Burden with Thomas at RB. That will cause a DC a heart attack. . 4.70-4.34-4.45-4.42-4.28

I've watched his highlights 3 times now. There is no zig zag to his game, he's a linear athlete and a little one at that, and doesn't appear to have good vision in traffic. That's not the kind of guy you want as a kick returner. He also goes down very easily. I think without much lateral quickness he's going to struggle getting off the LOS or even just when DBs or LBs body up on him at the 5yd mark and they will reroute him. Years ago, before I started watching players closely, I used to think fast guys will find a way to be successful. Nowadays, after many years of scouting feedback here on this board, then watching which players ultimately succeed in the NFL (i.e. I was wrong), I value quickness in/out of cuts and open field agility far more than speed. There's a reason Jaxon Smith Njigba just got big money and it wasn't because of a 4.3 forty. Antonio Brown ran a 4.6 forty but nobody could cover him in his prime. By the way I've come to learn that agility matters equally as much for the trenches. See Gervon Dexter struggle to get off blocks because he can't flip his hips. Don't misconstrue me because obviously this is not the only trait to make a player successful. It definitely makes a difference in what you see on the field.
