If we are competitive and winning as construed and will definitely be better with Caleb's progress, why would they tear down assets to add to needed pass rusher that will eat assets? I don't think they will look at it as you suggested. Now defensive assets is a different story. With the emergence of D Jackson I could see Edmunds leaving by a trade that frees up 15 mil or even J J because of what's behind him. I still don't think a strapped cap team is trading for big salaries if they trade their best player because of Garrett money. Turner got hurt just like Jarrett that is now healthy and playing better. You can't plan injuries, any player they trade for could get hurt. Dayo and Jarrett both were hurt this year. I see it more likely to go after Trey Hendrickson and try to fit his money into our Cap than trading assets to get a high level player. Example ' trade Edmunds ( if even possible) probably getting you a third round pick, JJ ( even less likely) getting you a second round pick) re-sign Jackson and Wright and hope the money saved will put us in better position to get Hendrickson or whoever.

I think you are allowed 2 post June designations before the date. Not sure how they do there nath but how would you like to be a bad team and also under water on the Cap.

Merry Christmas to the ones who seek the best Bear talk collaboration on the world wide web!

I dont think the actual June 1 transactions have to occur after June first anymore. i think it's just a designation now that allows you to spread the cap effect over two years instead of one, but you can do it at any time. i think there is a limited number of players you can do it for, but the actual date doesnt matter anymore. So for example you could use a June 1 designation to spread the cap effect over two years, but still get under the March number. I could be wrong about this, but i think this is the deal now?

The Bears also are 3-1 vs current playoff teams, the best record in the NFL against playoff teams, tied with the Chargers, but the Bears have the better pts differential in those games. Go figure.

Post Week 16 games. 2018 was probably the last time the national media had the Bears ranked this high. Here are the top 10 power rankings and the Bears ranking: CBS Sports - 4th Yahoo - 5th NFL.com - 6th Sharp - 6th NBC/PFT - 7th ESPN - 8th The Score - 8th Fox/Brady - 9th USA Today - 9th nfelo - 10th Average - 7.2 It feels like any team in the top 10 has a shot at the Super Bowl, the Rams are the closest to a complete team and they just lost to the Seahawks. If the Bears beat the 49ers, they have to be considered a top 5 team, which is hard to believe, and it is wild to see some rankings already have them in the top 5.

That's why I don't worry about comp% too much. Still needs to work on accuracy but receivers need to catch the ball
-
The Browns need to get under the cap in March, so they can't move Garrett as a post-June 1st transaction. They will cut Njoku to get $10M and restructure Ward to save another $8-10M.
-
Darnold had 10 INTs in his first 9 games, then only 2 in his last 8 in 2024. He just had a bad game in Week 18 and was sacked 9 times in the playoff loss to the Rams. I still don't know how you let him walk after throwing for 4300 yards and 35 TDs.

I hope everyone is having a safe and merry holiday season, and most importantly, BEARing DOWN! 🐻 🔽 🎄

Adam showed some re-work and cuts to make room. It can be done, not sure for Garrett's cap but have to be really creative to get that trophy. You have small opportunities and the Bears have it.
-
Just like Sherman Turner helped us this year. Hate to shatter any hope, but a beloved will get moved to make room for real help. The Bears have a window and a 25th-32nd pick is not going to help. Id Trade DJ, our 1st and a 2027 1st or 2nd for Myles Garrett. Then cut whoever you need to for the cap
-
If Cleveland is rebuilding odds are they will want draft picks not players with big contracts. Next year Cleveland is under water on their cap. If they trade Garrett they will have to eat 41 mil in Dead Cap to pick up 17 mil in Cap space. That still keeps them in a negative.
-
People like to talk about getting this stud and that stud edge but you have to look at contracts. Reality check is find one we can fit in our Cap and someone other teams may trade for? Jarrett, Dayo aren't productive enough to trade and have big contracts. Trey Hendrixson is a free agent next year, find 35 mil a year to give to him. Sweat is our best edge that will have over 10 sacks on the year. He's not top tier but getting rid of him doesn't make us better. Our DL help will be coming in the draft.
-
Montez stepped up a little with 9.5 sacks, but damn Garrrett with 22. Falcons rookie Jame Pierce with 8.5
-
If the Bears had Garrett they would be instant favorites. Picking so late this year and hopefully next, trading 2 - 1sts wouldn't hurt my feelings as long as we have the rest of our picks. Maybe throw in DJ Moore to help Shedour with a 1st & 2nd.
-
for sure. There is no rookie you can get after pick 20 that is ready to hit the field terrorizing NFL O Linemen on day one. Even if all our picks go to the DL, we still need a free agent or two. Jaylon Johnson and our first rounder for Garrett? Probably need to add something more to it too. And we would have to trade Edmunds as well somewhere to make room for Garretts contract.
-
The sad part is that was supposed to be Montez Sweat. Does he need stud DTs to wreck the inside or does he need replaced?
-
Since I do not seeing a rookie being a threat to opponents year one, they will have to find a way through re-doing contracts or trading players. Would fa's Trey Hendrickson or Joey Bosa have enough in the tank to be that threat? Or try to trade for a Myle Garrett? The FA route might allow them to draft prospects and to fit the cap, they may have to trade/cut DJ, Kmet, Edmunds.

And no one was ever scared of Dayo. We need a difference maker, or several on the D line. It's the glaring need for this team. Imagine us doing all the things we do AND having a pass rush. Then we'd be serious contenders who would be favorited in most games.
-
I take you to mean that you agree thats our biggest need, but if there is a run on D linemen, and the available players are very substandard for the pick, and some other amazing player is there, we might not pick the D lineman. It's a fair point, with TE instead of OT as one example last year, and Burden as another. Another answer might be to trade down in that scenario. Also, every year the team fills holes with free agents before the draft. Some are starter level some are semi starter level, but you never want to go into the draft with hard needs for the reason you just said. And if that free agent is someone significant, it makes the need to get a starter ready player less, and you can find guys to develop. But one way or another, we are not just gonna shift some bodies around on the D line and go with the same faces as some might say. I believe this is the thing standing between us and a Superbowl (unless we just do it this year anyway LOL) we NEED a pass rush, and you know Johnson knows it too. Theyre gonna do something major, they kind of have to, and if that in turn may cause them to trade players Like Jaylon Johnson, Tremaine Edmunds and/or DJ Moore, that might have to happen. It's not that those players are terrible, not at all, its just we have to get some dollars and picks on that D line because they guys we have now are just not anywhere near good enough. not for where the rest of this team is headed.

All I am saying is everyone that says it is a guarantee the Bears will draft a RD1 DL/DT should keep an open mind. Odds are good that happens but locking it in, never from me.
