Whoever the 6th WR may be. Rome-Burden-Raymond-Walker-Thomas and ? They kept 6 last year. I said they may have a chance, probably the PS. They gave cash to all three, not your normal UDFA. Bennett was a record amount for the bears. 300,000.

I think he might make the practice squad but was more pointing to he has speed. This year he run a 4.63 of which you pointed out he was coming off and injury. He has run a 4.28 previously. You are right, he doesnt have wiggle but if any coach can find some plays for a 4.28 guy, its BJ. I cant wait to see a play with Loveland, Raymond, Rome, Burden with Thomas at RB. That will cause a DC a heart attack. . 4.70-4.34-4.45-4.42-4.28

I've watched his highlights 3 times now. There is no zig zag to his game, he's a linear athlete and a little one at that, and doesn't appear to have good vision in traffic. That's not the kind of guy you want as a kick returner. He also goes down very easily. I think without much lateral quickness he's going to struggle getting off the LOS or even just when DBs or LBs body up on him at the 5yd mark and they will reroute him. Years ago, before I started watching players closely, I used to think fast guys will find a way to be successful. Nowadays, after many years of scouting feedback here on this board, then watching which players ultimately succeed in the NFL (i.e. I was wrong), I value quickness in/out of cuts and open field agility far more than speed. There's a reason Jaxon Smith Njigba just got big money and it wasn't because of a 4.3 forty. Antonio Brown ran a 4.6 forty but nobody could cover him in his prime. By the way I've come to learn that agility matters equally as much for the trenches. See Gervon Dexter struggle to get off blocks because he can't flip his hips. Don't misconstrue me because obviously this is not the only trait to make a player successful. It definitely makes a difference in what you see on the field.

This is last years rookie sack leaders. Only James Pearce had an impact. Jalon Walker (DT) was second with 5.5. Pearce was drafted 26th, 4 others were 1st round picks. 5 second round and 5 3rd round. Fans want to chase Dexter out of town and he had 6 sacks last year. How would everyone like if we drafted Faulk and he got us 3 sacks? 11. See how they lined him up a time or two at the edge, hope we see that from him once in a while. I think with Bush and Elliott we have a future dual w speed. I think he needs some improvement at coverage, but he is something else attacking the run

Who do you see Squirrel White beating out for a roster spot? Zavion? Bigger, faster, more agile, and more versatile and most importantly does not always go down the first time someone touches him. Khalif Raymond who already knows Ben Johnson's offense? Who do you see Caden Bennett beating out? Newman? McFadden? Bradbury? Both played well when called upon last year and a year of experience in this offense is a big help for them. I don't see a rookie UDFA from a small school beating either out. Jayden Loving might have a shot since our DT depth after Gallimore is so weak. Street reportedly had some decent years under Dennis Allen but nobody here is counting on him. If Loving can show some positional versatility (i.e. line up some at DE) he might wiggle his way onto the 53. We have a lot of risk at DE until Dayo and Turner return from injury. Of course Van den Berg is also a pretty good athlete. If we don't sign a FA DE this is something to watch as we head into camp.

First time I watched highlights, this dude is a stud. Even if we dont get another pass rusher, our defense is going to be better just because of the speed.
  14. Stinger226 replied to Stinger226's topic in Bearstalk

Part of this is due to NIL. There were fewer small school players drafted overall because with NIL, small school players or even good players at schools that aren’t traditionally as good, get noticed and snatched up by bigger/better schools. Even among our picks, Thieneman started at Purdue, Thomas started at Mississippi State, Elliott started at New Mexico State, and Van Den Berg was at Penn State. I think I read where there were fewer small school, lower level, and non power conference players drafted this year overall.

I do like that the Bears are finally getting with the program and understanding the college pipelines. They haven't been going with too many small school players. Zah Frazier was the only pick in the last few years from a "small" school. I would like a few more picks from top 5 schools but this is a solid group. Oregon - 13-2 (4th) Iowa - 9-4 (17th) Stanford 4-8 LSU 7-6 Texas 10-3 (12th) ASU 8-5 GT 9-4 (31st)

How many players will contribute or start from this class this year? I'd say 6 out of 7. Will they have the same impact as last years class, probably not as big but i see more players seeing action. This is what building your roster through the draft looks like. There are still some final pieces needed, but that list has shrank.

Bradbury is what? 31? If he goes down, who would take his place? Protecting Caleb has to be our #1 priority. So if they panicked and drafted who they thought was the best option at Center a bit early to avoid another team from grabbing him, so be it. We needed an option who could start day one if Bradbury got injured in preseason.
  21. Stinger226 replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
Has Dalman not retired, this looks a lot different. Not only the second but they gave up a 5 th for Bradbury. So in sure with the value of a center with a young QB, they double downed at center. They had no idea who would be available but grabbed the best center that could be all pro. IMO. People keep saying they didn't address their most important need, I disagree. They needed a starting S, they had some assets at DE plus 2 starters. Whether it's enough, we'll find out.
  22. Probably pissed off that he had to wait to 124 to get picked when he was projected in the 3rd.
  23. This is pretty funny but also it seems like that’s just who this dude is - pretty serious and focused. Here is is talking about Jaylon Johnson being one of the few guys he looks at because he’s more old school.
  24. AZ54 replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
I feel good the team prioritized protecting Caleb and didn’t just let the draft play out according to the experts. See the guy you really want and go get him. They backed it up with an insurance plan in Bradbury.
  25. Clowney made $3.5mil last year.
  26. Maybe AJ Epenesa?
  27. ASHKUM BEAR replied to AZ54's topic in Bearstalk
2 years younger than Kmet... The Bears did a ton of homework on Garrett and the draft prospects. This position is so important that it takes a lot of vetting. I feel good about both our centers.
  28. adam replied to adam's topic in Bearstalk
and free agency will be a thing of the past. They may sign one bigger contract per season, but they will have to make it work via trade and the draft.
