  1. Agreed, but I don't think we can get both of them, they'll both be gone by #90. I'd go with Doucet, and trade back into the 3rd to get Scheuning. I'd also like to pick up Monk from Arkansas or Hubbard from Wisconsin later.
  2. Say no to Mendenhall and Albert. We'll all be complaining that Mendenhall is a bust 3 years from now if we take him because he has a shit line who can't block, and there is no reason whatsoever to take a guard with a top 20 pick. IMO there is no reason to take a guard in the first round unless you think he is another Steve Hutchison, and even then you don't take him unless you pick in the 21-32 range.
  3. I've seen this scenario many times on mock drafts lately, and what I have been reading is that Jake Long will go #1, Clady will go to KC, Williams to Baltimore, and Otah to Denver or Carolina. By winning those last two meaningless games, it looks more and more like we will miss our shot at a franchise LT.
  4. I have a mock draft that I think would be great for the Bears: 1) Chris Williams OT/Vanderbilt We have to get an OL in the first. If Clady and Williams are gone you trade down and take Otah/Cherilus 2) Earl Doucet WR/LSU or Mario Manningham WR/Michigan I think we go with either of these guys in the second. WR is a need for this team. Manningham showed how fast he really is at his pro day. He screwed up at the combine. 3a) Roy Scheuning G/Oregon State Again adding depth to the OL. 3b) Kevin Smith RB/Central Florida Don't ask me why, but I really like this guy. He almost broke Barry Sanders' single season rushing record, even though he played at a small school, what more can you ask of a college RB. 4) Paul Hubbard WR/Wisconsin We now get a tall WR to go with Manningham/Doucet. Hubbard is 6-3 220 and ran the 40 at 4.38 at his pro day. 5) Erik Ainge QB/Tennessee Flame me all you want for this pick, but I think that he is a good pick here. Pick a QB later because if he fails then it isn't a big waste of a pick. The QB class sucks this year anyway and I think Flacco and Brohm will be gone by the time we pick in the second round. Everyone else after that is a crapshoot. 6) DJ Wolfe S/Oklahoma We need safety help, but this class sucks worse than the QBs, so pick up one late and hope 7) search for a diamond in the rough. There's this 6-5 WR from Louisville I read about who is fast for his size, but has character issues, why not try him here? So what do you guys think?
  5. What I would prefer, is that we could adress OT through FA, and take either Kelly or Sweed in the first. However, with only Starks as a viable option for OT, We'll have to look to the 2nd round for a WR. I really don't know who would be worth taking there, 4 or 5 guys will be gone by then, leaving us with the second tier guys to choose from, and we're only in the second round, however, if we don't choose an OT in the first, we'll be left in the same predicament in that position. That leaves us with a second option: Trade up with our 2nd and high 3rd into round one. We could potentially get both Sweed/Kelly/Hardy and Otah/Williams/Cherilus/Baker if we do that. It leaves us with less picks, but a huge WR and OT for our future. This would be the route that I would go at this point.
  6. Unfortunately, there is no way Sweed doesn't go in the first now. He ran a 4.46 40, which makes him a lock for the top 20. I don't know what Malcom Kelly ran, but if it was in the high 4.5s, then I'd put him in Sweed's place. I really thought Sweed was going to run in the low 4.6 range.
  7. I'll put out the Bears mock: Round Pick Position/school 1) Chris Williams OT/Vanderbilt 2) Limas Sweed WR/Texas 3a) Andre Woodson QB/Kentucky 3b) Kevin Smith RB/Central Florida 4) DJ Hall WR/Alabama 5) Best available Guard 6) Best available OLB 7) Best available Player Analysis: Williams is a no brainer, the best available OT at the when we pick. Sweed will fall to us in the second because of injury concerns and his 40 time. Woodson is a no brainer in the 3rd. I don't care that he has a hitch in his delivery, he is a gamer and played for a crappy school in the best confrence in college football, and threw 40 TDs. You might think that drafting two WR in the first 4 rounds is a bad idea, but when you are faced with the crappy players that we have when Berrian walks, you make sure that doesn't happen again. I think that Sweed and Hall could both be starting WRs in the NFL.
  8. I'll concede the 4 free agents part, we probably won't sign them all anyway, but if we could get Wharton/Gross/Starks and 2 of the other guys then that would be great. On the record, I'm assuming that Berrian is gone, so if we can't sign Bryant Johnson we can concede having any sort of a passing game next year. No WR on our roster is starting caliber besides BB. This is the reason why I think that we'll sign a LT in FA and draft a WR in the first. Waiting until next year to draft a QB is also an option, I don't know any decent QBs that will be in the draft next year besides Tebow, and as a UF fan, I question him having an NFL arm. We do need help at Safety, though Manning did improve as the season progressed. He was raw because he went to a 1-AA school.
  9. If I was JA, this is how I would fix the team: Free agency: 1. Sign either Travelle Wharton or Jordan Gross, whomever Carolina lets go.-this is priority #1. You have to go all out for these guys. Either of them can play LT, so you can move Tait to RT. If that fails, go after Max Starks if Pittsburgh lets him go. If we don't sign a LT, then Otah or Clady has to be the #1 pick. 2. Re-sign Berrian if he comes at a decent price or sign Bryant Johnson. After Berrian we have no talent at WR. If Berrian leaves, what good will upgrading at QB do if nobody can catch the ball? A QB has to have weapons to be successful. 3. Sign G Ryan Lilja if he does not re-sign with Indy. Again try to fix the OL through FA. These guys are under age 27, so why not dump money into proven talent rather than a maybe in the draft? 4. Sign either Eugene Wilson or Gibril Wilson if NE/Ny let them go. Chances are they will because they are on a SB team and SB teams always lose guys the next year. 5. Scour around for underrated DTs for depth. 6. Draft: Round 1: If (1) fails, take the best available OT. I will assume that (1) happens, so option A is WR Malcom Kelly, OU. if he gets past Buffalo. We need a big target for our QBs who can go get the ball. Option B is to trade down and take Limas Sweed. Taking a RB or QB in the first is asinine. Round 2: Option A-if Woodson or Brohm are available here, which I hear is a possiblity, whomever is available is the choice. Option B-Felix Jones RB Arkansas. If he is available and Woodson/Brohm aren't, you take him. Round 3: pick 1-If Woodson/Brohm is taken, then you take a RB: either Jamaal Charles from UT or Steve Slaton from WVU. If Jones is taken in Round 2, then you take Henne or Flacco as your QB. pick 2-Best available DT or OLB. Get someone to step in in case we have injuries at DT or if Jamar Williams sucks. Round 4: WR again. look for a decent height(5-10 to 6-1) speed guy. Cuts: M.Muhammad A.Archuleta F.Miller R. Brown D. Walker R. Manning(I'm comfortable with McBride at Nickel Back)
