Fields was mishandled by the Bears and he never developed.  He could possibly turn it around, but with the top pick in the draft and a QB like CW that only comes every 5 to 10 years, the Bears cannot pass on the opportunity.

As exciting as getting the biggest draft haul in history can be, the Bears would be a QB away from winning it all. We watched it with Rex.  Many fans feel bad for JF, we know he was and will be done wrong, but the game is about a trophy and starting fresh with a QB with CW talent gives the Bears the best shot for many years.

The Bears absolutely screwed the pooch with Fields - failing to provide him the tools to develop and surrounding him with enough talent. Justin owns some of this but the majority is on the coaching staff/front office.

Given the Bears have the #1 pick I fully expect them to draft a new starting QB.  I'm good with however Poles and staff chooses to do this. My only hope is they have the structure around this new QB so he can be successful. If not, we'll be starting process over again in 3/4 years.

    Peace

  2. Caller to the SCORE this morning said it best - "They need to fix themselves (their process of handling QBs) before they attempt to replace the QB". I am fine with them getting rid of Justin if they are making changes to the coaching staff that address how we handle/develop QBs. They cannot keep doing the same thing and expect it to work.

    Peace

  3. i want the Bears to trade out of the #1 pick and get the best return they can. I would be OK with draft a QB on day 2 to develop behind Justin. I don't see resetting the QB clock as having any benefit for us as I think we are ready to compete for the playoff next year.

yeah, great complimentary picks by Poles. Our biggest need now is Edge, but i dont think anyone left is gonna be a world beater. I figure we will sign a free agent to a one year deal (Ngakoue? Clowney? no one long term)

The first pick tomorrow is going to be in high demand. I would take advantage of that and trade down to get back a low 5th or high 6th to replace the pick we traded earlier.

    Peace

This dude gets it. OL, DL, CB, DL. He’s killing it.

Agreed. This draft is incredibly solid so far for us. Do you start looking best player available for the rest of the draft?

    Peace

  6. I used Brugler's draft as a reference as well but I traded back with Pittsburgh giving up 9 & 53 for picks 17, 32 and 80. * is where the pick matches Brugler.

    17) Darnell Wright, RT, Tennessee

    32) Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State

    61) Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa

    64) Derick Hall, Edge, Auburn *

    80) Zach Pickens, DT, South Carolina

    103) Xavier Hutchinson, WR, Iowa State *

    133) Luke Wypler, C, Ohio State *

    136) Sydney Brown, S, Illinois

    148) Kobie Turner, DT, Wake Forest *

    218) Evan Hull, RB, Northwestern

    258) Max Duggan, QB, TCU

    Peace

Poles will have a tough decision if Carter is there at #9. On one hand, you don't want to miss on your 1st round pick (the first time you have had one since taking over as GM) so you take a pass on a guy who is sliding down the boards. BUT, there is a possibility this guy is the next Aaron Donald. If so, it would be a brilliant selection. This pre-draft meeting with him is critical.

I'm not worried about the street racing episode. He wasn't racing. He wasn't drunk. He cooperated with the police. If he wasn't a celeb FB player, it would have never even been in the news.

The only thing I want to know is where his head is now? Why wasn't he better prepared for his pro day? Is he struggling because of the loss of his friend? The adverse publicity during the combine? The reports of him slipping down the draft boards?

My guess? He has worked his ass off, played a brilliant career, and now sees everything he strived for falling apart. He needs help.

I agree he needs help. However, he didn't cooperate with the police initially. He lied on several occasions.

His talent is tantalizing but it's a hard pass.

    Peace
