I believe he is the longest-tenured Bear and made $1.75M last year. The Bears just signed Ryan Winslow who was a UDFA with the Bears in 2018. Could this be the end of Mega Punt? The Bears also signed long snapper Beau Brinkley, which could also spell the end for Patrick Scales ($1.13M). Between these guys and the vet min, they could save about $1M in cap space between the 2.

I wouldn't be surprised if they moved on from both. Now's the time to do it.

Here in Chicagoland Sports Mockery is ridiculed because Erik Lambert writes most of the articles he posts based on secondhand unconfirmed information.

He didn't get the Nagy fired after Thanksgiving game right and he was totally off on the GM and Head Coach hire. Just read the posts from SM for entertainment especially in the comments.

    Man I miss Jeff Dickerson(RIP)!

    JD was the best.

Thank you for the correction.  I thought he had another year.  That being said, if we could get a couple of picks for him, I'd do it knowing Herbert can play.  He's not elite enough to pay over 10 mil/yr.

As much as I hate to say it, I would trade Monty if we can get a low 3rd/early 4th for him. He's not worth 12 million a year.

Getsy was really impressive, he seems like he gets it. Play to the players strengths. I think defensively we will be very competitive, offense can't be as bad as last year and if Fields has growth, we will have something good going on.

Getsy will be a head coach in the next 2 to 3 years. He was very impressive. Our reward will be him fixing our offense and unleashing Fields potential.

It was just a press conference so everything I say is a baseless overreaction - but as I just finished I echo what you said az.

As a whole I was thoroughly impressed. On poles - while the moment was a little bit for him and you could see he had nerves…once you hear him talk football, his vision, how he wants to modernize the org and instill a culture of curiosity where his people will challenge the status quo and push him and the org forward is nice. I also love fact that he was pretty clear - you want a good offense - you need a line and playmakers. It seems obvious but Bears have really never got that right (and probably part of why they have never really got QB right).

One bit that came across to me was the evaluation and valuation. Felt like a Belicheck quote but kind of went in to me that he is going to maximize value - that might mean moving guys early etc but he gets that you need talent but also at right valuation. Also hinted in later media circuit a focus on building through draft and hinted at org finding ways to increase its stockpile of picks (great sign and maybe indicator that he plans to make some big trades…ie mack or Quinn).

In general just like fact we got someone who is hungry and ready to challenge himself and surround himself with great people.

On Flus - love him. Dude just seems like someone ready for this moment. Loved his answers for how he could help Fields and love the approach he is taking to be the HC. I also liked how pragmatic he will be around setting the tone and expectations around no penalties, hustle, little things etc. While not an offensive mind - I see why they hired him when he talked about his vision for the offense and how he can help and what he found important.

I think he has some John Harbaugh / Tomlin in him for that CEO role.

Note: Ted Phillips name was not mentioned nor was he there today. Huge item which I really haven’t seen mentioned anywhere (unless I missed it and he was there).

    Good summary.

I saw pictures from the press conference and Ted was definitely there sitting next to George. I have no issues with that as he is still part of the organization. I'm glad they did not include him in the actual press conference. As George said, this is his show now. He needs to own it.

Like many, I want Daboll as our HC. Unfortunately, I have a gut feeling he will sign with NYG.

I'm not enthused with the three candidates coming in for 2nd interviews. I hope Poles is equally unimpressed.

I know we were disappointed with Nagy from KC, but Eric Bieniemy has been OC for KC the past four years and has done an outstanding job.

I wouldn't mind seeing him come in if Daboll signs elsewhere. I could see Fields in an offense similar to what Mahomes runs.

    What do you guys think?

All I want is for Poles to pick his head coach. He is the GM. He is responsible for the football side of the Bears organization according to George. The new head coach needs to be hired by Poles.

i just have to ask this.... why wasn't this all done prior to the season even ending? and by that i mean why weren't the candidates narrowed down to the best 1-3 and the bears were ready to interview a gm immediately and hire him near the same time.

this is why i question his credibility. this is common sense on how to run ANY business, company or franchise. you have a good idea who the top candidates are that you want to hire before they are even needed. you beat the competition by preparation. polian obviously has done no prep work for TWO MONTHS.

we are now going on three weeks out of the initial firing of our staff and we are just narrowing it down now? that is what amateur executives do.

Nagy and Pace were fired two weeks ago today. I don't trust George or Ted but am waiting to see how this plays out. I am betting a GM and head coach are in place by the end of the week.

The only person hired so far is the new GM for the Giants.

Who among our candidates is even thinking about that?  In Chicago if you win they build statues of you.  Whatever their faults these guys are not like Jerry Jones.  They will not be walking into the draft room to tell you which player to take in Rd 1.  They won't call the sideline in the middle of a game to tell the HC to throw deep.  Under Michael McCaskey there were issues with being too cheap to keep good players but in the last decade I think they've proven they'll give a GM whatever is needed to get elite players like Khalil Mack.  Their problem is they haven't chosen the right GM which is why they are offering the opportunity to this group of candidates.  Please don't hire the guy who says he lacks confidence and needs the owner or Ted to help him make decisions.  I do understand you need an owner to sign off on the checks for players like Mack.  Any candidate worthy of this job is asking the owners what the budgets and boundaries are for FA, draft trades, and such.  If they don't want to know that upfront don't hire them.  Again it was clear Pace had free rein to make big trades on draft day and big trades in FA.

    All of this 100%.

I believe hiring Harbaugh would come with a similar price tag and package like Gruden got in Vegas. Gruden picked Mayock to be his GM.

I'm not sure the Bears may be willing to pay the price to get Harbaugh and give him that structural power. With Polian involved I can't see him recommending that.

i don't think Harbaugh is coming. A coach just left ND to come and work for him. I think he is leveraging for a raise at Michigan.

here is the problem... polian is a temp worker that it is possible the current NFL has evolved past him other than general football knowledge. he is a viable source that a current and up to date president of football operations contacts along with OTHERS to make cognizant decisions for the future of a franchise. but... once the initial process is over he is dust on the shelf. you get no evaluation of the candidate he has chosen years down the road. is this candidate he has chosen succeeding or failing? who is going to make that determination?

what about the corrsi temp worker (another supposedly football guru) who put in place what we just fired? he was knowledgeable also but who evaluated his pick over the last 7 YEARS? who advised or directed our GM one way or the other as things started to fail? how long did it take for georgie to figure out that pace was not up to the job? when he gets blasted with it in the media? that is the problem. we have nobody in place that knows enough about anything relating to football to do this job.

that said, let's talk about georgie. he has been the president of this franchise for over 10 YEARS!! he himself has proclaimed his lack of knowledge in football operation and just considers himself in the status as a fan as of yesterday. are you freaking kidding me??

in TEN YEARS wouldn't you think someone as president of a billion dollar corporate franchise would EDUCATE himself on how to run this organization? apparently not or we wouldn't be using polian exclusively to do the most important job this franchise can undertake. so in TEN YEARS he has literally done nothing to understand the workings of how an nfl franchise should operate.

georgie is not just dumb, he is an entitled, elite, mamma's boy fool two steps below being considered a cretin.

Removing Ted from the equation going forward (after the hiring of the new GM and coach) is a good firs step. However, the larger problem remains that George remains at the top and the GM reports directly to him. Nothing will change until the Bears organization finally hires a competent Chairman - someone who is not part of the family.

i don't think i have heard anything like this in the world of sports. the stupidity and ineptness of the people running this clown car called the chicago bears has to go down in corporate history as what you never want to do if your goal is to succeed.

top that off... georgie basically called olen krutz a liar and insignificant "you can take what olen says with a grain of salt". that he was offered $15 an hour to work for the organization.

well that surely will buy good will from ANY former chicago bear player now or in the future.

I agree that George handled the Olin situation poorly. He should have just said he wasn't going to comment . That being said, Olin was offered the standard contract they offer anyone who they are considering to assist the coaching staff with training camp. It's not if they lowballed him compared to someone else.

I agree on the highschooler comment. I commented to my friends.... why the freak is he talking about the high school football game??????

I had a personal interaction with Geroge about my tickets too, he was awesome to me. Surprised you say that. Maybe I got him on a good day?

In my 3rd year of season tickets, I found out my seats were in the drip line of the stadium and we would get soaked whenever there was an ice melt. I spoke personally with George and he moved my seats to multiple different locations for the rest of the season with the promise we would discuss a new seat location after the season. The season ended and I did not hear from him. I received my seat invoice and it was the last seat assignment for the year. I called George and he reminded him of his promise and he said I hadn't had season tickets long enough to me warrant getting a choice. I could either stay where I was or move to the 400 level.

This franchise is unbelievable. George is a complete imbecile that couldn't run a fast food chain. They could have just run a replay of the 2015 presser. Even that was less stupid than what I heard today.

Every bit of goodwill and hope is just pie in the sky. This franchise will NEVER amount to anything as long as this family owns them.

Yeah, that was almost worse than last year. The only difference is they fired Nagy and Pace.

Further, the admonishing the high schoolers at Cary Grove High School was completely ridiculous and unnecessary.

I had a personal interaction with George with regards to my season tickets years ago. He was a douche then and remains a douche.

I've been watching Goldman this year and while he is not playing at a pro bowl level, he is playing at solid contributor level.  I've also noticed that he gets a lot more attention when Hicks is out.  With that being said, he is holding his own.  I'll take him at the price he is paid.

Goldman was called out by his position coach a couple weeks ago.

But did Jenkins play? I could have sworn I saw a tweet that said he got into the game in mop-up time.

If that's the case, then I don't give a shit about this week's practice time. He's either available or he isn't. If he's available, then he should have started.

Agreed. He should have played the vast majority of the game. Also, Graham only got 4 snaps (Vildor and Burns got the majority). Simply ridiculous.

As a long time listener to ESPN 1000 "JD's" Bear hits were something I looked forward to because he was precise and direct with the info he presented!

I loved his input and hope and pray for his son. I don't know what the bears donated but, it looks like the Packers donated 250K.

Bears donated 25k. Nagy donated 7.6 K to match Tevin Jenkins # (JD predicted the Bears would draft him).
